Wingsuit tries to board plane w/o leg straps
monkycndo replied to bodypilot90's topic in Safety and Training
One thing that I emphasize heavily in my FFCs, once the rig is on your back, first thing you do is tighten your leg straps. No exceptions. Even if just going to a dirt dive, tighten the straps. It might not be as comfortable to walk around, but if you get an unexpected Now Call, you won't have to deal with forgotten straps in the plane, or even worse, in the air. 50 donations so far. Low pull + CYPRES fire + near miss with tree.
monkycndo replied to labrys's topic in Safety and Training
Kelly, I spooked my Cypres at jump 58. Ended up landing with two out. That was an expensive jump counting the repack and replacement cutter. But it was invaluable considering the lessons learned and I can guarantee you that it has made me a more aware skydiver because of it. Props to you for posting it on here and taking all the well meaning ribbing, the jabs, and the unwarranted stupid shit slinging so that others might learn from your experience. And yes, that ground gets real big, real fast when you are dirty low. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity -

If the cutter is above the freebag, once the reserve is out of the container, the cutter is off the loop. The cutter will fire, but the loop will be intact. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity -

Not in the same size, but I had a SA2 150 at that loading. I got it at about 400 jumps. It was a zippy canopy and fun to fly. I chose to sell it because I didn't like the frequent off heading openings. If the jump numbers in your profile are correct, going to 1.5 at 200 jumps is being very aggressive, even for a 170. Especially if those jumps are evenly spread over the 5 years you have been jumping. I would advise against any 170 canopy. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. Chuck, I can understand the idea even though they are two different ways of flying the parachute. I think the idea of getting the PRO rating would slow down the progression in trying to be a swooper in that you would have to have the PRO required 500 jumps and show you have an understanding of canopy control for the 10 declared accuracy landings. If a jumper doesn't have the discipline to get the PRO card, they most likely will end up being the current type of swooper that fills these incedent reports. And since wingsuiters are getting bashed for some reason about our current attempts of pushing the envelope, we have the same battle of newer birds progressing too fast to the big flying carpets without putting the time in the smaller suits to gain the required skils. Different shape of wing, but same problem. It shows that we have a common problen that when we can't self regulate by peer pressure/guidelines/mentoring, regulations end up being the only stick that is effective in beating back the overaggresive noobs that want to push the envelope, be it only their own personal one. 50 donations so far. The main was recovered. Pictures posted on his FB account. He said his mama would be proud as the PC was cocked. It was a weird looking ball of shit in the screen grabs. Or maybe the air gremlins have been at play once again. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity

I wouldn't suggest trying to pop the pin yourself. The flopping bridle could wrap your hand. If you did open the container, no guarantee the bag would open with an uncocked PC. Now you've burned altitude and might have nothing to show for it except less distance above the ground. Leave rigging for the ground and follow your EPs. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. It's a good idea to start learning about gear and once you have an idea of what is appropriate, start watching for it here or at your DZ. But the first gear to buy would be a Protec helmet, simple goggles, analog altimeter and gloves. It's nice to have a helmet where the padding is new and hasn't been worn by lots of other people. Goggles that aren't scratched to hell. Gloves that are soft and fit perfectly. And my alti of choice is the Alti2 Galaxy. The helmet/gloves/goggles will run you about$60-70. The alti can be bought used for starting about $80 on up to new. For a suit, buy used since most folks don't have perfect landings, so no need to damage that pretty new suit. A cheap pair of mechanics coveralls can work in a pinch. If you are feeling artistic, you can magic marker them for ghetto chic. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. Went to work for a company where the running gag for the supervisor was to offer something to drink to the new hires during their first Monday staff meeting. We were so busy at the time, didn't have the weekly meeting for about a month. By the time we finally had one, he forgot about the joke. The crew let me in on the significance of the whole thing. The supervisor was Steve Jones and the beverage was Kool-Aid. Yes, Jim Jones' only surviving son, Steve. Let's just say you needed a warped sense of humor to work there. 50 donations so far. Best/cheapest place to get your license

There is no BEST. Everyone will tell you that the rig they jump is best or why would they have bought it. I like Infinity, so it is the best.
