I think I was 6. Couldn't find the can opener to punch a hole in a can of sweetened condensed milk. Decided to use a big ice cream paddle and knife like a hammer and punch to make the hole. Saw my brother do it a bunch of times. Only problem is his hands were twice as big as mine and I couldn't hold the knife and the can at the same time. Hit the knife with the paddle and the knife bounced off the can and stuck into the meaty area between my thumb and forefinger. The knife was small and it just stayed stuck in there standing straight up.. My sister saw it, pulled it out and took me to the sink to run some cold water on it. According to my doc, my experience was about the average. Snipped on Friday morning and had 2 1/2 days to recover before going back to work. One side was a piece of cake and the other was a little uncomfortable during the snipping. No pain, just could tell the difference. I love the smell of BBQ, but smelling yourself getting cauterized can be a little unsettling. I followed the doc's directions about the frozen peas to control swelling. If you didn't like peas as a child, they will be your best friend now. Took the meds as directed and they did a pretty good job controlling pain/swelling. Only one side swelled up at all. Yep, same side that was odd during operation. The only real discomfort (not pain) I felt was the pulling of the stitches due to swelling and the ends of the stitches poked/irritated the skin. It is so much easier for us guys to get snipped than our ladies. Make sure you get your two post procedure checks to confirm you have no swimmers left. Saw it on TV. Don't remember the exact temps (thought it was only a single high temp, but might be wrong), but important directions to follow. The bird needs to be on a roasting V rack so the heat gets to the bottom of the bird so it cooks evenly. Don't stuff the bird. Rub the skin with olive oil (not butter) to get the skin to brown. Season the skin with salt and pepper. Dried herbs and butter can cause the skin to burn. I don't think they covered the bird during cooking. Internal temp of the meat should be checked in the breast and the leg. Once you pull it out, put a foil tent over it to hold the moisture as it rests for 20-30 minutes before carving. Looked good on TV. Good luck.

I understand and agree with what you are saying about the difficulty in seeing the jumpers on that type of run with those conditions. My response was more directed towards staying aware of the number of jumpers on the load and watching as best as you can. It is too easy to get use to thinking that once the tandems are down, the run is complete. With the ever increasing number of birds with their greater airtime and distances covered (I hope to join the ranks myself in the near future), those on the ground need to be more vigilant that all jumpers are accounted for. I tried it myself as well. Looked like hell. Ended up just using a #3 guide and buzzing it the same length completely. Over time kept cutting it shorter and shorter. At the two DZs where I normally jump, one requires a van ride back to the airport from the landing area. When I drive the van, I watch jump run for any outs/chops. As a jumper, it becomes second nature to get a head count in the plane to make sure you have accounted for all the load so you don't leave someone when returning to the airport. The outs are right along the road so it is normally not too difficult to find any missing jumpers. At the other DZ, there is almost always someone sitting at the tables watching jump run. If someone has chopped or might be landing out, manifest is notified and they have someone in the golf cart or a truck to bring you back. In both cases where I landed out (one a reserve ride), I didn't have long to wait to have someone checking on me or the van arriving to pick me up. I went from a tube on the rental gear to a hacky once I got my own. I prefer the hacky. Easier for me to get a good grip with gloves on. I had to replace my PC and it had a smaller hacky on it. The vertical line to indicate changes has been standard practice in the building codes for years. If major changes have been made, they simple say the entire chapter has been rewritten.
