It won't be widely reported until some credit can be given to President Obama. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

and the new deal by FDR was mainly spent on infrastructure and did creat temoprary jobs. this bill is a partisan piece of shitfilled pork. If this bill passes, them dem party will probably sink their chances of having control of congress in 2-4 years. Exactly. That Rachel chick on MSNBC was throwing an abslolute fit about the Republicans voting no. (She left out the part where 11 Dems agreed.) According to the her and many others on the left, the only reason the Republicans voted no was to be defiant to the President. She made no mention of the actual spending proposed or how many billions were to be flushed on pork. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

A WTF figure I read was that the first 3 years of FDR's New Deal combined and adjusted for inflation is 1/5 the cost of this bullshit bill. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Conservatives bitched and moaned about the last stimulus package. It didn't work. The country elected a new guy on the promise of change. He's doing the same thing but roughly twice the size. Everyone is unhappy about the entire thing. Even the Dems on this board seem to be against it. The only ones who think it's a good idea are the Dems in Washington. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

“Interference of the State, the belief in the omnipotence of the State: that is a reaction to market failures,” Mr Putin said in his keynote address at the opening of the four-day meeting. “There is a temptation to expand direct interference of state in economy. In the Soviet Union that became an absolute. We paid a very dear price for that.” Wow. What the fuck are we doing? A nation brought to it's knees by government interference is warning us about following the same path. Are the dems in Washington literally the only people on Earth who think this is a good idea? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Congressional Democrats Put $$$ in Rush's Pocket
FallingOsh replied to TankBuster's topic in Speakers Corner
That's the slippery slope argument that so many use against socialist programs. "But we already did that so let's do this. Well we're already trying this so let's add that." Just because we have roads doesn't mean we need to add billions more in government handouts. If I had to choose between socialism and a depression, I'd take the depression. The rediculous amount of money being burned to try and save the economy hasn't worked. Now we're (the dems) are throwing another $1T at it. It didn't work when Bush tried it last year. It's not working now. It won't work with another trillion. Leave it alone. Quit wasting money on pork claiming that'll it'll save us all. We're wasted billions, and soon trillions, and still suffering through a hefty recession. The economy will work through it's cycles with or without the government flushing money down the toilet. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
It makes me more disgusted than sad, but it seemed to fit in this thread. http://www.clevelandleader.com/node/8627 The Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball was begun in 1953 for President Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration. The event recognized recipients of the Medal of Honor, the nation's highest military award. There were 48 Medal of Honor recipients in attendance, who were undoubtedly disappointed by the Commander-in-Chief's failure to show. Over the past 56 years and 14 inaugurations, no President has skipped this event - until now. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

No...let's just call it what it is. 13% of 800 billion won't do crap in the next 2 years so why not just get out of the way, quit taxing hard working folks instead of giving "tax rebates' to people who don't pay taxes, let poorly run companies fail instead of bailing them out, and let a free market economy do what it is designed to do. I'm with you on most of that, but I think we should continue taxing hard working folks (and not so hard working) until we've paid off the ridiculous debts our elected officials have accumulated for us. It's time to pay the piper. Blues, Dave That's the fundamental difference in opinion regarding the tax structure and rebates. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

So, you're against Obama's reversal of the ban? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

They had to pay for their new toys somehow. Thankfully, Geithner will be there to look into the situation. Send the guy who can't pay his own taxes to look into poor spending practices by a bank that is funded by the government that employs the guy who won't pay his taxes. And since everything is going so well with the first package, let's throw another $T at it. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Which EU States Will Offer Home To Ex-Gitmo Inmates?
FallingOsh replied to 434's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think they should handle the problem. It's our (Obama's) order that needs a plan, not Europe's. What they should do is shut the fuck up unless they're willing to help out. If you're not willing to help, that's fine. You forfeit the right to bitch. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again
FallingOsh replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
As (Scottish) hosts, we EXPECT a degree of "ignorance" in visitors, particularly Americans where so much is the same that the differencees can really mess with your head. Even simple stuff like which way to look as you cross the road, or tipping (much less prevalent here -- only for really good service). What we DO expect is politeness and a willingness to learn & conform(we're all attitude-mirrors); This is a different country, our country, not yours. Thats what travel broadening the mind is about. I like that attitude and I think it's lost quite frequently with many people in this (the US) country. Some seem ashamed to be American because we can't compromise for every single person on every little level. I feel like you do. It's our country, not yours. If you don't like it, go home. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
Will the US Regain Respect in World Opinion Again

The difference is in how people justify whatever action they deem appropriate. Non-interventionism would also mean not begging a government to allow us to send aid to national desaster areas. It would also mean not stepping into Darfur or pouring money and aid into Africa countries. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
kinda like a $1T economic stimulus package? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Obama completed 2 rockets attacks with a drone!

I think we can also put this one aside. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life. -
That's the exact black and white mentality towards interrogation that I'm talking about. Crucifiction does not equate to sleep deprivation or loud music. One is ok (if it proves useful), the other is not (in any case). -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
-
So the argument again comes to defining harsh treatment. Is torture limited to ropes and broomsticks or does it extend to lound music and sleep deprivation? -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
-
Nah actually I think it is just a small percentage of the 20% of dead enders like you who STILL thought Bush was doing a good juob before he left office. Ah, the argument has digressed into PA's (and shortly, namecalling) in slightly more than 1 page. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

The torture and subsequent murder of un-tried people sounds a lot like something a terrorist would do, doesn't it? It is important for the US to demonstrate that we are willing to hold ourselves to a higher standard. That means upholding human rights, providing swift and just trials, and being "better than the other guy". Doing dick shit like waterboarding and saying it's not torture, or trying to justify torture by questioning patriotism or suggesting it's worth the "win" is foolish and generates more enemies for the US. .jim Ok. Now to address the problem. What do we do with all of the prisoners? To my knowledge, Portugal is the only country that has agreed to help out. Britain and Germany are considering it, but haven't committed. Many prisoners don't want to return home for fear of harm by militants (for possibly cooperating with the US) or their governments (for possibly being a terrorist). Even if Gitmo needs to close, signing an order to do so without a plan was jumping the gun... putting the horse before the carriage, if you will. Something I found interesting; 4 of the 5 men in Gitmo accused of plotting the September 11th attacks are supposedly against Obama's halt to the trial. Not sure why and I find it odd. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I guess its not just the conspiracy theorists and crazy right wing fanatics. Edited: I got beat by a few seconds, I guess. [bows] -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Sadly (or ironically), I think most of that will come from the left. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

Most Americans told The Times that they did not expect real progress in improving the economy, reforming the health care system or ending the war in Iraq -- three of the central promises of the Obama campaign for at least two years. The poll found that two-thirds of respondents think the recession will last two years or longer -- midway through Obama's four-year term as its 44th president. Kinda makes you wonder what those 79% were thinking positively about. While Hannity gets on my nerves, that claim isn't entirely unfounded. I'm not sure I'd place it on the "left," but certainly with environmental groups. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I'm also not positive, but I think there was a problem with the on board computer during the first official attempt. It was supposed to provide proper pitch and roll information to the pilot kind of like a HUD with a bullseye. It failed so the pilot flew it manually. Maybe that had something to do with it. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.

I didn't think anyone had to. There's $350B on the way. -------------------------------------------------- Stay positive and love your life.
