To check your Neptune version, either look at the screen when it first starts up or go to Menu->System->Modes->Demo and the first screen will display the version. If it's been a year since you've updated, there are newer software upgrades available. The battery meter in the new version is also much better than some older versions. If you want to try to update it yourself, see this page. http://www.alti-2.com/Neptune_Owners_Pages/neptune_updater.htm Also try using Menu->DZ Setup->I'm on DZ(or GND) to get out of airplane mode. Pulling the battery will reset it, but it shouldn't be necessary.

Looks like Steve beat me to starting this thread . I can't remember which one of us was first out of SMB's C206 for our first AFF L-1. I still need to do a tandem eventually. Congrats, happy sky b-day, we'll get a jump in soon. I just wish I would've stayed current for more than only the last two years and the one jump 8 years ago today. I'm glad we can still seem to talk each other into doing crazy things. Everybody have fun today while I'm at work on dz.com as usual and hopefully I'll get to jump somewhere on Saturday.

Another method I've used when a hand was tangled in the steering line was to put my free hand through the free toggle and use that arm to both stop the spin and untangle the mess on the fouled steering line. This works pretty well for me, I haven't tried the hold it in your teeth method. You shouldn't have any problems if you're careful stowing and unstowing the brakes. $1000 won on a blackjack hand, it's a different kind of rush to lay it down like that. I kept it, but it's gambling so it goes up and down and I think of it as gambling money. I've won $4000 in a session, and that's what I'm up overall too I think. I've also lost $1000 in a night on a few occasions.

That's a nice sky blue canopy . I've got a sky blue reserve, but it came out on a cloudy day. I like to gamble and skydive, they're different kinds of excitement, but addictions to anything aren't usually a good thing. I took a 7 year break between my first two jumps mainly due to financial reasons as well. Have fun.

I got some titanium mesh in my chin from a broken jaw skiing over a hill and not avoiding the large boulder on the other side. I've also broken a humerus, a thumb, been knocked out a few times (before I started wearing a helmet), got some stiches in my other thumb from not wearing gloves and going huge (I almost landed it), f-ed up a knee, and beaten myself up plenty. I've also broken a leg playing basketball and an arm from a baseball bat swung by a crazy guy after the game.

I've seen a couple main pins that popped in the plane on the ride up or near jump run. One person (a student), lied on his back while the instructors closed the container and repacked the P/C. Another person took the rig off and closed the container and repacked the P/C himself. I would think that'd be better than opening the door with an open container and having people jump out or making the whole plane ride down. In your case, I guess it's your decision to repack it or ride the plane down since the others can do what they want without danger to anyone.

I had something similar once happen to me. It was my fault of course, I landed out in a blackberry bush after flying too far from the DZ in one of my early wingsuit jumps (which I still do too often , but fortunately I haven't found any more blackberry bushes yet). I cleaned up the blood, disconnected the wingsuit, bought the wingsuit which I had been borrowing at the time, made sure the canopy and rig were all right, packed it up and got on one more load before leaving the boogie. Everyone was glad to see I was still alright. I agree with what most people have said here. Stop for a minute, think about what you did wrong, talk to people about it and ask any questions you might have, and then make another jump if you're ready for it and conditions allow. If you let it go too long you'll lose confidence and have it stuck in your head until you get it right.

I got pushed out of the door of a Twin Otter by someone with lots of experience on the first 4 jumps after I graduated AFF. I just saw it as it was time to go and he was making sure I went on time. Looking back, I find it kind of funny .

I heard they'll even make fractional sizes, so if you want something like a 160.5 sq. ft. canopy you could probably get one. Keep in mind that each manufacturer may measure their canopies differently, so a Sabre 170 might be bigger or smaller than a 170 from another company.

When I did my first AFF jump in 1998, they used ripcords for students.
