With regards to quick acceleration in a wingsuit, the main aspect of wingsuit choice is assuring they have fast colors. Reds mixed with oranges or yellow and always a bit of black typically allow for near instantaneous thrust. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

Blackwater is an exceptional example- not exactly your standard "civilian" line of work. Additionally their airlifts cost a fraction of what the military's do... when I get home I'll find the data. Further, they were contracted without standard benefits of military- cash only really. finally, one of the main reason they were hired is the reason they got strung up/thrown under the bus by our government- to do and go where our soldiers can not for political reasons. Look @ south vietnamese rangers in the first half of the vietnam war as an example- think they stopped from chasing VC into cambodia just cuz they were at a border? anyway, i think the point of the OP's article was comparable civilian jobs, not military. That's also the very top final standard deviation of private sector employees- CEOs. I'd be curious who is getting paid 100K+ in the government and for what. Also, what percentage of the govt employees get paid 100K+ vs people making less than say, 60K compared to the same ratio in the private sector. So there I was... City of Nashville vs Skyride court date set
BDashe replied to BillyVance's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm curious if fatalities go up when skydiving activity increases. Hmmm... my guess is there is a correlation between the two. Take a look at AZ. Also, if youre going to make accusations of aircraft incidents, I think you should do the research and benchmark it against the industry average per 100,000 flight hours. Billy- you're a bright (enough ) dude and I actually think we're on the same page on a lot of things as we have PM'd before. However the generally baseless pot shots are disappointing and ethically unjust from a tactical standpoint. No one ever said skydiving was safe, and yeah, to most DZ.commers my opinion on anything ASC related is trash since im in their corner but- their equipment and general maintenance has always been top notch, if not the best I've seen, partly from the amount of money they have to maintain and purchase the best and newest. I think an excellent example of skydiving being dangerous and 'inconsiderate' of accident occurance is skydive orange. Of all the DZs I have visited, they probably have the best safety practices in place, and pretty darn good equipment. I jumped there a short time a few years ago while living in DC, excellent place. They have had a few accidents over the last couple years as I've read. I do not think that is a reflection on the DZ in the least, it's skydiving, sh*t happens. Hollister was very clean for a long while and is a very safe DZ. Recently they have had a couple accidents. Point is, we're all playing the odds, the last things anyone needs to worry about at ASC or any DZ I have mentioned or frequent are safety practices or faulty equipment/maintenance. I'd like to live, thank you. Think about it- ASC is under a microscope as is, they're smart enough to keep all their T's crossed and I's dotted. Guess what? The main motivation behind that is jumper safety anyway! Likely followed by legal implications. Anyway, sorry for thread drift but I'll be done in this thread now. Billy, keep us posted on the Nashville developments. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983 -

In '06 I spent 5 weeks in eastern Africa, including Uganda. Stayed for a couple days on this lake near the Rwandan/Congolese border- lake bunyonyi. We went on a little tour of the lake with a guide, he informed us (as we passed by) of this very tiny grass island in the middle with one or two trees on it. it was called something like "sinner's island" or "death island" in one of the local languages. any women caught having sex before marriage or stepping out on her husband would be dropped off (often by her father) and starve to death or drown trying to swim to shore, as no one knew how to swim. We asked our guide how long ago they stopped the practice, he said "oh a long time, almost 8 years..." Africa is a different place, still very tribal in many areas. Lots of tribal influence even in Kampala. Doesn't surprise me that this is their reaction to something the general population doesnt agree with. I was handed a pamphlet while hiking into Uganda from Rwanda telling women not to sleep with border patrol even though they look official and powerful, and that dousing my penis in gasoline will not protect me from HIV... among other important factoids. Not that it is right, but lot's of stuff looks crazy from the outside, for the most part people just don't know any better. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

Agreed w/r/t the vietnam vets. My dad was a ranger in Pleiku in '65 and '66. He still tells stories of the skyraiders and the original "Puff the Magic Dragon" being the reason on more than one occasion he is alive today, subsequently allowing me to be here to debate with you lovely ladies and gents

My all time fave is still and I think always will be the P-51 Mustang. I think it is the sexiest plane ever created and was a major factor in gaining air superiority in the european theater. Fast as all hell for the time period and carried 6 cannons, hell yes. Is there anyone that doesn't like that sound as they fly by with the prop tips exceeding the speed of sound? Went from design to finished product in only 117 days, pretty awesome. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

Oh yeah I forgot, Obama is going to waive his magic wand and make full healthcare for 30 million MORE people without spending an extra dime or raising taxes/creating new ones. edit: I'm not against healthcare reform, in fact I think we need it. I just think he is trying to eat a cake with one bite. There has to be a better way to go about this than all at once. So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

that's awesome! I remember counting back from 10, then waking up and starting again at 3. Then I told the nurse I can swallow a pint of blood before it makes me sick, which i had just learned in physiology. My family loves me enough to have had a video camera waiting for me when i arrived home. So we have footage of my family poking fun at me while I'm looped out of my mind. gotta love em! Now is it a PA if we agree with you or it only depends on the fervor we use when explaining the amount of agreement? THAT is an excellent question. To further your concept, is it a PA if I refer to/offend myself? That would be awesome... So there I was... Making friends and playing nice since 1983

Troll: As previously stated more than once, none of us are arguing that management exists to manage the company, or than unions do not manage the company directly. Thanks for the obvious and irrelevant fact though. Also, w/r/t GM, when a union member sits on a board, magically his values change and he is going to drop his entire agenda? Of course not. That is a rare instance anyway, so not that relevant. What can be universally agreed on is unions are manipulative and can try to strong arm management into decisions often leaving few realistic options as Tom previously stated. Not sure why you felt the need to "snip" his entire segment exemplifying that fact. That happens all the time, and is happening in SFO right now as I showed with the 3 articles i posted earlier. Tell me- how is it justified for a person that brings in 35K minimum (not including overtime/double pay scenarios) that makes 8-10 beds a day, with full benefits for their entire family for $10 to strike for more pay and benefits when 12.5% of the state's population is unemployed? It isnt, management wont stand for it. The unions are going to try their butts off in smear campaigns and childish behavior to influence management's decision. As Tom said, you cant have it both ways- right now the employees should be happy, but since it is a contract year, for that reason alone, they feel they deserve more for doing absolutely nothing extra. In the middle of one of the worst recessions in history, management can not budge or the company will fail and everyone is out of a job. Yet in your mind 'the employees get screwed over.'
