Science finds Black Hole at centre of Galaxy
tumbler replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
I thought you guys broke that thing? -
I would jump more if the DZ wasn’t a flight away now! Before leaving the states I had slowed down considerably in my jumping. There has been a constant turnover of up-jumpers at my home DZ, and I think it was just my time to go. That with some recent occurrences made it a hard place to be as it lost its home feeling. Just the circle of life; will find another home one day!

some kind of fault has occured. If you can find the breaker that controls the juice to them you can throw it and pull the batteries. Of course a large hammer on the speaker is an option as well!!

yea, it use to be fun but now that my boyfriend is out of jail he seems to get really mad when he sees it.... oh, there he is now.

As far as I see it... I fly all the time, part of the gig I have. SE’s (seatbelt extenders) are going to fly as well. As pissed off as I might be when I am in coach that they are taking part of my seat it is a simple fact of life. If I have to pay an extra 25 cents, or dollar, or 5 dollars to be comfortable then so be it. Coach already sucks, I am willing to pay more for the insurance of being a tad more comfortable. Thank goodness for business class.

It is funny to me that we ask these questions in amazement that someone somewhere is corrupt. Within politics, who isn’t? There is no difference to them. They all look out for number one, try to get ahead, get more money, and get more power. If their constituents are hurt along the way; collateral damage. If their constituents are helped along the way, they get to scream look at me, look at me, hands in the air like its good to be alive!!! It is a time honored tradition dating back further than time can count. Not one of them is looking out for me or my interests or my concerns. Every single candidate runs on a platform of change, except the ones trying to be re-elected. They get elected because we are pissed off and want to punish the people in charge as if it is there fault for my lot in life. Life long politicians become president now. They are part of the system that we want to change and they feed us the scraps that say they are the ones to lead the revolution. We continue to believe them. That is what I find funny. Only one looking out for me, is me.

Saudi Sucks... but Bahrain ROCKS!!! 6 hour wait over the causeway this weekend with it being Hajj. For a bunch of folks that dont want the evil drink in their country the sure do block the roads getting out of here to get it! Now the non-alcoholic beer has some serious possibilities that I can see... need to get the mix right!! thanks...

Does anyone have a good, easy way of making beer? I have somewhat limited resources but should be able to scrounge up allmost anything. I tried to do a search on the process but the web sites are banned here... go figure. thanks..

Just a guess here but... Saudi Arabia isnt an available pick in the dropdown menu for selecting your country. Closest is the UAE (I tried to pick Saudi as well, being as I am here now). Could be why it is confusing as to where he is trying to open a DZ. To the OP... if you need some help drop me a note. I am just outside Dammam for the next year... Tom

Bzzzt!! Invalid premise. A person can have religious beliefs and still believe in acknowledge the scientific fact of evolution. Science and religion really can coexist, for the most part. It's when one presumes to masquerade itself as the other that we get ourselves into trouble. I havent agreed with some of the things you have typed but I do on this. There is nothing wrong with accepting both God and Evolution, I do. It really reduces my internal conflict.

Mother Earth would be better of without us..
tumbler replied to shropshire's topic in Speakers Corner
I recall a report regarding the effects of the 3 day power outage the Northeastern US had several years ago... not exactly what it said but the idea was with the power plants down for those three days the pollution level in the corridor dropped by 80%, or some such number as to make me remember how remarkable it was. I bet the Earth would recover very quickly if we were to leave. And remember... when the aliens come they are going to eat the fat people first!! (I saw that in someone else’s post and laughed my ass off) -
It seemed to my that you were addressing both; but in any event... I do agree that the nuclear terrorism threat is real, and it will get increasingly real for the basic reason I discussed above: ongoing proliferation and miniaturization of the technology. I'll also concede that nuclear terrorism just might be the first "next use" of a nuclear device in anger if the Indians and Pakistanis can restrain themselves from turning Kashmir into glass. (I will also note that, officially at least, the nukes that Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine inherited from the Soviet Union have all been transferred over to Russia - so that particular regional threat does seem to have been minimized of late.) Our speculation is indeed boundless. It is tad concerning that today's reports indicate a "chilling" of relations between India and Pakistan over the past two days. I reckon the Indian government has been a little busy though, so I am not putting to much credence into that. Figure something bad has happened and I have a long time enemy, of course I am going to wonder out loud if they had a hand in it. Regardless, I cannot see the path to nukes. Not here and not because of this.

I don't worry about global nuclear war at the hands of superpowers (the fear during the Cold War) nearly as much as I worry about regional nuclear war at the hands of non-superpowers. The reason I say it's only a matter of time is basic logic: over time, most technology that does not become completely obsolete tends to proliferate throughout the world. It also often tends to miniaturize in physical size over time. Applying those general principles (especially the first one) to nuclear weapons technology, it is not unreasonable to make the projection that further usage is likely to eventually occur. By the way, nuclear war during the Cold War almost did occur, and we were a lot closer to it than we realized at the time. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, the presumption that none of the nuclear weapons that had been placed in Cuba were operational yet led JFK's top military brass to advise him to use air strikes and a land invasion of Cuba. As we know, JFK didn't follow that advice, but he was sorely tempted to. But according to inside information declassified by the Russians after the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the 1990s, a few nuclear weapons already were operational, and had an invasion been launched, they likely would have been used against US forces. I am not sure I follow your argument. You’re more worried about third world governments using nukes more so than the old school super powers? Are those in the India and Pakistan less human and caring, or more angry and spiteful than that of the NATO and the old Soviet Bloc? I should think not, but I have been wrong about many things before. If there is a concern I would have it would be more of the destabilization of the former Soviet states and the possibility of a high yield device falling into bad hands via that route. I don’t see another government using a nuke again in anger.

Hmmm.. I don’t know Cari, I have been married twice, if I had a little more God in there maybe one would have stuck! or if I had picked a little better. I imagine that had more to do with it than anything. you know what is funny to me... I am not gay, I believe in God and his son Jesus. In fact I wear a cross around my neck every day. I also believe that God doesn’t give a flying fuck what we do; he loves us anyway. I guess that is where my tolerance for this stuff stems from. Only thing I cant stand is stupidity. That drives me nuts... that and clowns, don’t like those clowns at all. What do they really look like underneath that make-up with that giant smile.. they must be hiding something!!

I agree. In my mind, the next use of a nuclear weapon in anger - and it's just a matter of time - is more likely than not to be in the India-Pakistan theater. I don’t know if it is really just a matter of time… I recall thoughts like that when I was a little rug rat in Kindergarten and first grade… we would drill for nuclear attack; don’t look at the light, duck and cover under the desk and wait for the next announcement (guess I am getting old to remember this). Point is, we seemed to be on the brink of nuclear war for decades and it didn’t come to pass. I just can’t believe that the fingers on the buttons of those arsenals would really press the “go” button.

I may be completely off base on this and I have honestly not looked into it in the least... I was under the impression, or perhaps the misconception, that most gay marriages were performed in civil ceremonies at courthouses or other official places that do such things. If that is indeed the case, what does religion have to do with it at all? (I know, naïve of me to ask reading all the threads, but seemed a salient point to this discussion) It seems that some people are just generally pissed off and it makes them feel a little better about themselves as long as someone else is suffering.

No two ways about it, they knew what they were doing and were well prepared to do it. Al Jazzera reported last night that the terrorists had set up command posts in both hotels prior to the attacks. I have trouble with the numbers being reported as well. 4 teams – The 2 hotels, the Women and Children’s hospital and the Jewish housing area. Then along the way hitting the train station and the restaurant? As trained as they were I have trouble believing the number of people reported versus the timeline and targets hit. We may never know how many or why.. Again based only on the reports there were only a handful of Brits or Yanks killed. With the number of nationals killed (190 last report). As healthy as the planning was, to think that Western targets were the primary objective doesn’t seem to really correlate to the outcome. A very sad commentary indeed.

Do whatever you want to do, its your life and i will not judge, i respect that, but for it to be viewed as proper and/or correct? Different story Are you kidding? did you really intend to say this? Isn't the act of you deciding if it is proper and correct judging? edited: for clarity

so I was reading this thread, chuckled a couple times and scratched my head a couple times... but this made me think of the country song You Do Your Thing. I dont remember who it was written by.. "I'll worry about me, you just worry about you I'll believe, what I believe and you can believe what you believe, too..." No matter how much "they" stand on their soap box and scream at the top of their lungs the very thing you would spend a lifetime opposing with every last breath you take, they have a right to say it... as do you. Kind of a cool concept, don’t you think? Tolerance goes all ways.. I liked your post. Tom

That would be an incredibly quick escalation of hostilities; going from where they are to another outright war. Not that lesser items haven’t caused the same thing, but with the efforts by both sides to come to some sort of peaceful coexistence there would need to be proof beyond doubt that this was a government sponsored act. I just don’t see it, cooler heads should prevail. I understand the last two terrorists at the Taj were killed today with a death toll over 130. Regardless of what group actually did it, they were well organized, coordinated and armed to the teeth. I imagine this probably isn’t a swan song but more of an opening act. I now wonder what happens to the Western companies that have relocated or opened us hubs in the area (Google, Ebay, etc) as this was/is such an emerging market. Another attack of this magnitude and if I were a CEO I would be having serious doubts as to do business in a safe/secure manner.

and all that seems very logical... Many people dont understand what an influence the policies of the US really have on the world. These policies have not been popular with really anyone and the change at the head is so warmly welcomed it is amazing. The parties that I saw, people dancing in the streets was nice to see. Hopefully Obama lives up to the hype. One of the terrorists gave in interview that was broadcast on the web. Some Indian nationals that I work with were translating the Urdu for me. He decried how Muslims have been persecuted in that country. How they are pushed aside. Then he brought up how they are losing their heritage as Western influence continues to grow. Then complained about Kashmire. The take of the people translating for me was this was a lost kd, brainwashed into doing this. They were all in agreement. It is a shame that the Taj hotel is on fire. It is a majestic building and one of the defining landmarks of the city. And as I am typing this there is still gunfire going on. It isnt over according to the news here. 125 dead as of now. Amazing.
