  1. Some reports claim that he was trying to blend in with SWAT in order to get away. Shooting at cops wouldn't help that plan. Or maybe he just had no intention of dying, wanting to live to enjoy his twisted glory. (Why a mass murderer might be proud of their actions is beyond me, but that does seem to be the case with some of them.) The point is that giving up to police without a fight after the fact doesn't imply that someone shooting back at him in the theater would have made any difference. Math tutoring available. 2. Exactly. In the eyes of the law, if someone is not convicted of a crime, they should not be punished for that crime. Your implication that it's okay to execute them because they probably got away with something even if they were exonerated of the crime for which they were convicted is absurd. 3. Are you saying that you could use sound isolation to hit the shooter in a theater during a movie? I'm calling BS. Why is it so difficult for people to admit that a gun or few in the audience just wouldn't have likely made a difference? The shooter was well prepared and successfully implemented a surprise, incapacitate, and overwhelm strategy. It's unlikely that a theater crowded with panicking people would have provided many opportunities clear shots, and the tear gas made it unlikely any such opportunity could be successfully utilized. It sounds like an example of the Dunning–Kruger effect. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  4. Right. Flickering light will make things so much easier. My every day carry pistol (1911) has a light on it (TLR) and when I go to the movies I put one of my Surefire tactical lights in my pocket on my "weak" side. Besides being super handy if someone in your party drops their cell phone or keys in the dark, you never know what will happen out here. A couple of .45 slugs to the chest, even with soft armor on, will tend to get someone to stop firing and give you the gap you need to gain time, distance and cover. Not according to the professional arm chair quarterbacks around here. They say you should sit down and wait to be shot No one has suggested anything like that. I have, however, asked you repeatedly if you've ever actually experienced a tear gas. I have. It sucked when I was expecting it. Aim a weapon when unexpectedly exposed? LMAO! Math tutoring available. 5. 16% over the distances that Ryoder referenced is too much for me. Frankly, I'm amazed that anyone who cycles regularly thinks 16% for ~0.4 km is challenging. The only racing I do (or have any desire to do) is Cat. 6. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  6. If they had been convicted of a similar or worse offense, then they would have been sentenced for that offense, as well. Your reasoning isn't logical. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  7. Pretty much any grade. I'm used to short climbs and short descents. My commute has one particular climb (that's not steep at all) that goes for 1.5 - 2 km. That's much longer than other climbs I typically make. At half that length, it would still probably be the longest climb I encounter (semi-) regularly. My fun rides typically average 22 - 23 km/hr, based on start and finish times, so that includes stop signs/lights, rest breaks, climbs, descents, everything. I don't use a cycling computer out of principle, so I really can't give more precise numbers than that. I'm not riding a road bike (and I'm old), so I'm fine with those speeds. 8. It's steep enough to know it's a hill, but unless it's long, it's not that bad. We're going to be going in circles here, you don't know what 16% is. I know exactly what 16% grade is. It may indeed seem steep to you. To me, not so much. On the other hand, to me, any climb that lasts more than 0.4 -0.5 km is long. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 9. I'm not missing the point at all. The justice system isn't about Karma. It's not okay to put someone to death for a murder they didn't commit just because they got away with stealing a candy bar when they were a kid. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  11. Whatever. You like a granny gear! Actually, I have a fairly weird setup... Compact 50/34 up front, with 11-23 in the back. I ride 36/18. It's low enough that I can climb the not-so-steep hills in the city with a load on my back (when commuting) in a headwind, but high enough that I can cruise along at ~30 km/hr on level ground without spinning out when riding for fun. I am considering a Sturmey Archer 2 speed kickback hub, though, geared to be a little lower and a little higher than what I have right now. I've heard mixed reviews, though, so maybe not. 12. ??? 16% isn't that steep if it doesn't go very far horizontally. Then you don't know what 16% is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Grades_degrees.svg Yes, I do. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  15. I ride a singlespeed, and enjoy it. But it's not fixed gear. I can, and do, coast. Riding in one gear isn't that hard. You quickly develop a very wide range of pedaling cadences at which you're comfortable. I've actually considered piecing together a fixed gear bike, but if I do it, it will be based around a three speed hub. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  19. This comment of yours might explain a bunch about you. 1. This was a cop.... They are not like civilians and have a completely different set of rules applied to them when in the line of duty. 2. This has nothing whatsoever with SYG. Is this the best you can do? Like it or not, law enforcement tends to have more latitude than civilians when it comes to using deadly force. Do you know of any jurisdiction in which a cop, when faced with someone pointing at him a gun that he reasonably believes to be functional and loaded, does not have the right to shoot that person? In what situations do you believe a civilian in Florida would be justified in shooting someone under SYG, but am on-duty cop in an identical situation would not? Math tutoring available. 25. I try to avoid the major roads, but I'm a year round commuter, so I ride all over the city, all hours of the day and night. (I do avoid any daytime recreational riding in July and August, when it's just too hot.) I'm reasonably confident that I'm not just missing them. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour!
