  1. You do realize that body armor substantially increases the area through which the force is transferred, right? I wouldn't be a bit surprised to find that the applicable area is greater than 3 square inches. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  2. Are you in doubt of the validity of Newton's third law of motion? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  3. That possibility is easy to discount. The probability is just too low for it to be considered plausible. No matter how well armed the audience members, it will always be possible for a gunman to overwhelm them with chemical agents, superior firepower, and the element of surprise. 4. By most accounts, the shooter is very intelligent. His attack appears to have been well thought out and implemented. It seems that he gave consideration to return fire, and probably many other contingencies. I just can't see an armchair hero with a handgun changing the outcome any, except perhaps more innocent lives lost. And yes, having the only pro-mask in a room of tear gas was a significant advantage. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  5. By Newton's third law, the momentum from being hit by the bullet is identical (actually slightly less) to the momentum of the recoil. Does the recoil from a 9 mm or a .40 cal. "knock the shit out of" you? If the shooter is already positioned to handle the recoil of the guns he's shooting, then, if he's wearing body armor, bullets hitting him from the front won't necessarily knock him down. 6. It sounds like he was employed. The man accused in a shooting rampage at a Denver-area premiere of the new "Batman" film received a high volume of deliveries at work and home over the past four months, police said, parcels they believe contained ammunition and possibly bomb-making materials.Source Sorry to disappoint you, but it's probably neither Holder's nor Obama's fault.A federal law enforcement officer said Holmes bought one of the four guns — the first of two Glock pistols — on May 22 at Gander Mountain in Aurora, Colo. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the probe into the shootings is ongoing. Larry Whiteley, a Bass Pro Shops spokesman, said records show that its Denver store followed federal rules in selling a shotgun and a Glock pistol to Holmes. “Background checks, as required by federal law, were properly conducted, and (Holmes) was approved,” Whiteley said in a statement. Gander Mountain, which sold an AR-15 assault rifle believed to be used in the shootings at a movie theater in Aurora, said the company was in compliance with state and federal laws and that it was “fully cooperating with this ongoing investigation.”Source Math tutoring available. 7. I always had one while growing up, but I never even saw one when I was in the military. I've been out 17 years next month. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  8. No, compared to quantitative analysis, the qualitative analysis of economics is of little importance. Economics is, fundamentally, applied math. Reject the math, and it becomes nothing more than political rhetoric, great for persuasion of the ignorant, but useless for developing effective economic policy. Math tutoring available. 9. I would argue that it began as a recreational activity and evolved into a sport. How long had skydiving been around before skydivers began having skydiving competitions? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  10. The problem with that is that it encourages two different standards for conviction. Putting someone to death when "there's absolutely no question that we have the right guy" is all well and good until we start "only" convicting others of life in prison because they probably committed the crime. Knowing we have the right guy should be the standard for conviction, not sentencing. We've put too many people to death who have subsequently been exonerated of the crime for which they were convicted. I think it unwise to support the death penalty on a case by case basis, and I can't make a general evaluation of its merits without taking into consideration those who have been wrongfully executed. I would suggest that the families and friends of the victims cannot complete the healing process until they can finally forgive the perpetrator for his crimes. Forgiveness is a gift to the forgiver much more than the forgiven. It's easier to forgive a living person than someone who has been dead for thirty years. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 12. Not even close. The Austrian system is to the Keynesian system as religion is to science. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  13. Don't get me wrong; I won't lose any sleep if he's put to death. I just don't believe the justice system should be about vengeance. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  14. Yes. That's an understatement. But not impossible, since we used to do it annually. We used to be allowed to use CS on training exercises and would have to maneuver through it on live fire, with our Pro masks, so is it ideal no, but it is possible. Matt Nope. Sorry. You're not taking into account that moviegoers don't typically have a mask, being taken completely by surprise, the room crowded with panicking innocent bystanders, and (possibly) the low light conditions. 15. It has more to do with prioritizing the mission over an extended judicial process. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  16. I answered that but it didn't post. No I have not, But I would give it a try if put in the situation. What would you do, lay there and die? Your eyes are burning and producing tears in abundance, so taking careful aim is out of the question. It also hurts to breathe, and if your perspiring at all, any exposed skin will feel like it's burning. Add the effect of being caught completely off guard, the panicking crowd, and the low light situation, and the probability of an armed movie watcher stopping the body armored gunman without causing significant collateral damage is extremely low, near zero. 18. There's an excellent reason competent economists rely on mathematics rather than rhetoric. It's too easy to misrepresent with rhetoric, as you have demonstrated nicely. One need not even understand economics to do so. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!
  19. The Austrian school of economics is pretty laughable. They reject mathematical analysis, because they know mathematics highlights the inconsistencies in their rhetoric. Keynesian is similarly laughable. The mathematics works, but the results haven't worked out too well. It's not even close. Keynesian models don't explain all variance (no model does), but that's no reason to throw the model out. It is fundamentally sound. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! 20. I'm opposed to the death penalty (with possible exceptions for combat theater military justice, since the mission is more important than the man), even for mass murderers. Life in prison serves society just as well. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

  23. I disagree. Hamilton, along with his fellow Federalists, were correct. Small (national) government is the problem, not the solution. A powerful national government is necessary for a country to thrive long term. Look at the EU. They are similar in structure to the United States under the Articles of Confederation, and they are facing the same kinds of problems experienced by the US during that period. The UN has similar problems. The member states have too much individual power, which undermines efforts of unified policy and action. We got in the mess we are in because of insufficient government regulation, an administration eager to go to war, and supply side economic policy. Hamilton (and the rest of the original Framers) understood the importance of government intervention in the economy. Laissez-faire economic policy is unsound. Math tutoring available.
