Tax money is not your money. It is our money (i.e. it belongs to the collective population of the nation, state, and/or city). Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

But can you force a guy to assume liability if he has no authority? That changes things. We didn't realize the man was raped and his sperm were deposited against his will. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

did YOU not understand? If you were in the military, you would know that a soldier is subject to the orders that come through his chain of command regardless of that soldiers location. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Ignoring that rule has everything to do with disobeying a lawful order, which is a violation of the Uniform code of Military Justice, i.e. a violation of law. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

No, Joe Welfare is not the government. Nor is anyone asking you to pay Joe Welfare a damn cent, if you want to make that distinction. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Currently a student, not employed (relocating within the week), and not receiving unemployment, food stamps etc. Outside of my military service, the only government assistance I've ever received has been the Pell grant and a single week of unemployment insurance benefits. Nope. I have been careful and responsible to avoid bringing kids into the world before I can afford to raise them properly (and before I am comfortable with the idea of raising kids). Yes. I am of the mindset that I am because I have had enough mathematics, finance, accounting, actuarial science, and economics classes to be able to recognize the fiscal arguments of the economic conservative/libertarian for exactly what they are, fallacious. ??? That doesn't make sense. I already have temporarily given up skydiving because I don't have the extra disposable income nor access to appropriate healthcare. If health care reform takes place, that will remedy the second issue. That's where you're wrong. Yes, there will be a increase in taxes. That increase, for the majority of Americans who currently have health care, will be offset by the savings from out of pocket healthcare expenditures. Consider this: The worst estimates for administration costs of Medicare are still lower than the best estimates of administration costs for private insurance companies. That difference is about 2-3¢ for every dollar spent. Our healthcare system is broken, and needs to be fixed. Private industry has had the opportunity to fix things themselves, and have failed. Personally, I'm leaning towards support for a Medicare for all type system. I'm open to alternatives, though. For example, a while back, [pirana] posted an alternative idea that involved, IIRC, private not for profits. I've not looked at the details, but on the face of it, it looked to be a viable solution as well. Again, your questions fail to consider the money not being spent out of pocket that offsets the increased taxes. There is a fairly common misconception in the US w/r/t taxes. Many people do not seem to realize that we get things back in return for taxes paid. It's not like we are throwing money into a black hole. In most cases, by utilizing the tax system to gain tremendous buying power, we are able to buy things at a discount that we would need to buy anyway. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! As you know full well that Article 15 is from UCMJ, and does not even guarantee protection from a court martial, later, for the same offense. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

I was in the military, 13B, 25th ID, US Army. I also served as an armorer in the USAR. Article 15 of what? UCMJ, perhaps? If you weren't in the military, you probably wouldn't know this, but Article 15 covers non-judicial punishment of real violations of the UCMJ. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! We do. If you don't like the laws of this country, you are free to relocate to one of your choosing, if they'll accept you (referring to immigration laws of other countries, not commenting on your character in any way). Better yet, contact your elected officials and insist that they vote the constituents will and the constitution as they are sworn to do There is that option, also. It is pretty rare that Congress pass unConstitutional legislation. Certainly none discussed in this thread would qualify. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Besides a job (i.e. opportunity for employment)? Don't you work for the government, either directly or via a contracted company? I'm reminded of Joseph Heller's description of Major Major Major Major's father in Catch-22: Major Major's father was a sober God-fearing man whose idea of a good joke was to lie about his age. He was a long-limbed farmer, a God-fearing, freedom-loving, law-abiding rugged individualist who held that federal aid to anyone but farmers was creeping socialism. He advocated thrift and hard work and disapproved of loose women who turned him down. … He was a proud and independent man who was opposed to unemployment insurance and never hesitated to whine, whimper, wheedle, and extort for as much as he could get from whomever he could. … "The Lord gave us good farmers two strong hands so that we could take as much as we could grab with both of them," he preached with ardor on the courthouse steps or in front of the A & P as he waited for the bad-tempered gum-chewing young cashier he was after to step outside and give him a nasty look. "If the Lord didn't want us to take as much as we could get," he preached, "He wouldn't have given us two good hands to take it with." And the others murmured, "Amen." Major Major's father had a Calvinist's faith in predestination and could perceive distinctly how everyone's misfortunes but his own were expressions of God's will. … I'd not be surprised if you fail to see the relevance. It's easy to accept that some people really are that selfish. I owe "society" exactly two things: Jack and Shit. Unless you're a community organizer, "society" doesn't give you a job. Since the company pays me for the work that I do for them, I don't "owe" them a thing. 10/10 irony score Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

Seems like a waste of CNC if the allowable tolerances are great (large). My point was that most computer users are not aware that they have the option of Linux (or *BSD, *Solaris, etc.). Those people should not be considered when making claims regarding consumers' choice of for profit software versus free open source software, because they don't realize that they even have the option to install a free, open source, user friendly operating system. I'd be much more likely to say, "I like Mac OS X, but I'll try it on on a virtual box for awhile." Actually, I would support rewards based government subsidized open source software development for security reasons. I would love to see a security audited OS like OpenBSD designed for the masses. Microsoft's achilles heel has traditionally been their security through obscurity philosophy (i.e. the belief that withholding access to source code from users and the public makes it less likely that any bugs in the code can be exploited). If the government were to sponsor development of an OS, the primary reason would be security, not to put MS under. Personally, I believe cyber-security to be something that should be of great concern to the federal government (as should the health of the national population). Math tutoring available. No, in favor of the less selfish philosophy that those who benefit most from a civil, governed society should pay back to society for that benefit. I'll admit that I never really understood that whole "Do not remove under penalty of law" concept with mattress tags. I fail to see how it's relevant to the topic at hand. If you want to live in and profit from the USA, you have a responsibility to pay your dues. I'm not about to claim that I support the war in Iraq (or Afghanistan). However, it would be naïve to believe that there are not people in government who have a much better idea about what is good for society than you or I do. I know you're capable of it, but I'm not seeing examples of independent thought in your post. It reads more like parroting of Libertarian rhetoric. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! None of which makes it a good canopy choice for you to jump. If you can get such a good deal on the Sabre2, buy it, resell it for a profit, and use the money to buy something better suited for your relatively low level of experience. Math tutoring available. Strong DHT - design flaws, safety hazards, maitenance hazards

If a DZ doesn't have the resources (time, equipment, and/or staff) to do 10-15 tandems a day and keep up the maintenance on the manufacturer's required schedule, they should book fewer tandems. Overbooking is the fault of the DZ, not the manufacturer. Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials! -

I don't and I find it damn funny too. Of an experienced videographer and a fifty jump newbie, who uses more DZ resources (e.g. electricity, space for personal video station, etc.) Would it not be reasonable to expect the experienced videographer to pay a larger share of per jump overhead costs to the DZ, even though there is no rule that explicitly forbids the fifty jump newbie from plugging in his battery chargers and computers or taking up counter/desk space with his own camera gear? Furthermore, no one is suggesting that the rich pay money directly to poor individuals, as the (bad) analogy suggests. If you've been paying attention, you know that we are discussing adjusting minimum wage to account for inflation, not raising minimum wage as measured in real/constant dollars. The only BS is your statement about being "informed". Wrong. It is only informed consumers who are able to make an informed choice, regardless of the product. W/r/t computers, informed consumers are a pretty small subset of users. (Your numbers seem to be pretty outdated, btw.) Most informed consumers I know choose other options, except the gamers. Of the people I consider knowledgeable enough to classify as computer geeks, none use Windows on their primary personal machines. They use OS X, Linux, *BSD, or Solaris/OpenSolaris. The ones that use OS X tend to do so because it's a *nix distribution with a "captain." (When there are disagreements among developers for many Linux distributions, sometimes some of the developers will branch off and form their own distribution. This ultimately results in many similar Linux distributions that lack a core set of packages that is guaranteed to be in every distribution. Large FOSS projects often lack a "captain" that can make command decisions and keep the team working together.) Of informed consumers, i.e. those with enough knowledge to make informed decisions about their software, for profit software doesn't have anywhere close to 99% user share. That market share is only achieved because most consumers that think the only two options are Windows or Mac OS X, and don't even realize that they could choose a free alternative. That's a pretty laughable statement, considering the immense amount of software available for Linux and the fact that Linux runs on a far greater number of architectures than Windows. What can I say? I'm a rebel. Once I even drove a couple mph over the posted speed limit. I've been known to jaywalk, too. More seriously, there are many, many software users like me. So, from what I hear, you're a good video guy. So, you probably get more requests to shoot video than someone who sucks. So, you make more money at it than the 50 jump dz rat with the 3rd hand gear. Lets give half of the money you make to him. Never mind that he doesn't take the time to work on his flying, video, or editing skills. Forget that he spends his money on things besides jumps and good equipment. You have more so you must owe him. It's not like you did anything extra to become good. It has nothing to do with your desire or work. It's only because of the guy off the interstate that pumped the gas for the truck that delivered your camera. You haven't earned and don't deserve anything. Do you? Do you really not see the huge problems with that analogy? Math tutoring available. Only $6! per hour! First lesson: Factorials!

It sure wasn't to 'benefit the provider'. If they wanted to do that, they'd make a donation. And you know this how? I can look through all my software, separate the stuff I bought from the stuff I pirated, and see a clear pattern. The pirated software is from developers that have business practices that I generally don't like or are applications that I loathe using. Everything else is paid for or free. I've even donated to the developers of some of the free stuff. I can get the vast majority of software for free if I want to. If I pay for it (and mostly I do), it is to benefit the provider.
