  1. Have you updated your profile recently? As a matter of fact, I have.
  2. I got my Phantom in July, but only got to fly it for the first (four) times yesterday -- it was fully worth the tantalizing wait. Thanks Robi!
  3. Is there anywhere to get specifically 2nd BASE tracks at? Crossover and others.
  4. Ha, and once more out of charity, ha. Ok, that was actually good. Thanks everybody for their input, much appreciated.

  6. Construction-wise, what makes a canopy less prone to an off-heading deployment, symmetry of the packjob, the pilot chute, and body position a given? Is it valid to say that some (BASE-specific) designs are more likely to open on-heading than others?
  7. I tend to discover the greatest games just as I have this super urgent project due in... let's see... last Friday?! At first doesn't seem like much, but it gets really addicting after you get the hang of it.
  8. Mneh. 225661. SPLASH!
  9. A great time-killer. http://www.rawkins.com/games/do/index.html
  10. Did you know that technically your canopy is more elliptical than a Stiletto, or a Vision for that matter?
  11. Nothing short of great, for me, at my current level. I can't really give a fair comparison though. I think I'd be equally happy under any other modern 9-cell canopy, Pilot, Sabre2, whatever.
  12. There was a sale going on, so I upgraded from a tired Hornet 170 on which I'd put 100 jumps to a brand new Vision 168 for about $150. I double-checked with the dealer to see if it was a Vision with the new specs; he claimed Aerodyne said it was. However, after I got the canopy and checked the S/N with Aerodyne, it turned out it wasn't. There was a bit of a hassle to find out whose mistake it really was, but in the end Aerodyne promptly sent me a new lineset, for which I'd like to thank them. Relined, the canopy improved tenfold, most noticeably in the flare department. My landings have improved significantly, to the point I don't have to do any running on hot no-wind days. Before that, no wind meant no graceful landing, and at one point I had concluded I must truly be a poor pilot and considered swapping the canopy for something less hot, but no offer presented itself. Not to say I wasn't / ain't a poor pilot, but seeing how right now I have no issues landing the thing, it couldn't have totally been my fault. I feel the openings have become quicker / firmer, but nowhere near an issue. In a word, I got a brand new canopy of not the ugliest color pattern in the world at below $1000, and a spare lineset. No complaints here anymore, and thanks Aerodyne!

    Gargoyle Twin

I was told it's called Gargoyle Twin, and is basically what comes standard from Morpheus now? From what the owner just told me, the label apparently says, "Gargoyle (Twin)"
  14. The difference between a Zak (integrated risers, no options) and a Track (deluxe backpad, 3-rings, hip rings) that I own is 700g (1.5 pounds).
  15. I'd get one as small as I could find, because the only gripe I have about my "Compact" Pro 600 model is that it's so bulky. Backlight is helpful but not all that necessary.

    Total mal

Ok, a bit of a background story on this. Climbed the Helge A, it was windy, PC too big to stow, I lay it down and step on it, lift rig, stupidly pull the pins, don't feel like trying an unpacked jump, would have wrestled it closed except that nobody up there had a pull-up cord with them, and within seconds the winds made a mess out of a careful packjob. No stashbag. Climbing down with that mess is hardly doable. I put the mess between the folds the best I could, put the pins between one side flap and the top flap, tie kneepads around it to keep it from expanding, purposefully misroute bridle over the top flap and throw it down. I warned one person below that it wouldn't be a real jumper, but he failed to spread the word, and you can hear the girl say anxiously, "Damn, you should have warned us about that!"

Come on, I hear it's the latest UK fashion, I had to try it out. I think I see what it's about...

Watch in blood-freezing, toe-curling disbelief as the canopy never leaves the container!
