  1. Why do you think I bothered in the first place?
  2. The company I work in is re-shooting Married... With Children (basically keeping the plot the same, but changing the jokes to reflect a different society / time). There was an episode that featured some alleged skydiving... this being a comedy, I fixed them with some truly scary skydiving paraphernalia. According to the plot this is a first jump from a plane, so I figured my BASE rig would be perfect for that. Anyway, check out these few production stills. The smart guys that the film crew are, they wasted a perfectly good building packjob I had in there (accidentally popped the pins), so the lower pin is actually popped open. Big kudos to anyone who can identify the ragged military surplus gear.
  3. And soon enough you are getting another, pink one for more static lines!
  4. Speaking of which, here are some only marginally BASE-related, but none too shabby anyway.
  5. 230-240ish ft I reckon. Whatever 24 or 25 floors measure at.
  6. Panoramic shots by Xomato. The building jump was my very first SL, and there's some video to accompany it: http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=5592 Don't you just love that security guy, ever so nonchalant?
  7. For me, Rock Dragon landings are always about the same degree of hardness. Landings on a same-size Flik are either very soft, or harder than RD (varies with landing conditions I guess). (very subjective) Slider down heading performance is worse on the Flik. Caveat: Very limited experience on both canopies (70'ish on RD, 20'ish on Flik), plus you have about 10 times the jumps I do.

    #110 (((

I am utterly in shock. He called me just a couple weeks ago to ask for electric pylon jump advice -- he was concerned about static electricity. It is totally shocking to learn that he did jump it in the end... but at what price. According to the report when he opened he apparently realized he would not make the landing zone and opted for the water landing. He landed some 100 ft from the shore into 40F water and struggled for 20 minutes before he lost consciousness of hypothermia and drowned. Ground crew tried to get to him to no avail and later had to be taken to hospital for hypothermia treatment. I don't know if he cut away the canopy. The rig he was jumping is a Paraavis Beast -- you can see that it has two cutaway handles, one for each riser, for no reason that I can comprehend. I don't know if it was of any consequence in this incident. He was 20. His brand new rig had just arrived (you can see his name embroidered there on the mud flap in Russian). I feel terrible.
  9. Disassembled the camera, skipped the distilled water bath, poured a litre of isopropyl over it, swirled and sloshed it around, let it dry, put it together back again. So far appears fine except that there is a big blotch on LCD screen. Thanks for all the advice!
  10. Have you ever known what you are talking about when it comes to skydiving? Talk less, jump more. There's a reason we were born with 2 ears and 1 mouth. Voice of reason as always, Brad, skygod extraordinaire among us mere mortals, invaluable source of priceless advice.
  11. Ahh thanks Lonnie & Shogo! (Your Safire is still flying great by the way) Can't the water/alcohol get through the lens and moisten it from inside, thereby ruining it? The idea feels totally alien, but I will try anyway of course, since there is little to lose.
  12. Did I get that right? Actually rinse the camera in water? Then in alcohol?
  13. Yesterday was great fun and cost a lot of bucks. I butt-swooped my brand new freefly suit through a puddle of mud, and then accidentally dunked my PC 109 camera in said puddle. I took it out. I very stupidly turned it on a bit later that day thinking it maybe was ok. It worked for about 30 seconds, then said: Dirty cleaning head, reinsert cassette. I did. It stopped working altogether. Doesn't turn on at all now. Anything I can do to salvage it right now? Sony repair facility is not an option at where I am, unfortunately.

    Toxic PC's

For the record... I don't really notice a difference in inflation between a typical Asylum PC and a Toxic.

    Martin Tilley @ AsylumBASE.
  16. I've owned both in the same size... they are not really similar. Not any more than two other 9-cell canopies are similar.
  17. How's that for BASE spirit?
  18. You, sir, are exceptionally helpful. Thank you.
  19. No, and the company owner says he does not plan to obtain TSO. Otherwise it's a good container at a great price. I like it way better than the other Russian containers.
  20. Alexander Chavdar (aka SkyDentist) He was spending the weekend at a 1000 ft antenna with a group of other jumpers. On Sunday he went to make a jump and pulled too low. It was a daylight jump, and the visibility was not obscured. The jumper had previous slider-up experience as well as jumps from this object. Total experience: ~70 jumps over the course of 7 months. We will all miss him. Fly free.
  21. Would be great to have the ability to leave feedback for sellers/buyers, as well as questions/comments for an item posted for sale.
  22. It's amazing how different the pictures of the otherwise pretty familiar Moscow legal object feel when taken from an unusual angle. Not to say there aren't a bunch of other cool pics on that site, of course.
