  1. I've done my 100th :) A couple of sitfly, a rodeo, a night jump, a few hop and pops but mostly 4-way.
  2. We were taught that a bag lock that stands you up will speed up your freefall speed because you are now presenting less surface area to the relative wind.
  3. Yeah, I have Drop Zone, Point Break and Cutaway all within arm reach atm.... Watch Cutaway next, much better than Dropzone
  4. Just curious if you roll the nose when you pack your Sabre. In the 80 jumps I have done on mine it has always opened brisk, but no slammers so far. For the first 50 jumps I did on it I was always afraid my next jump would be a slammer.
  5. Not a pin check, but once when we were waiting at the emplaning area I noticed someone had misrouted their chest strap. I told them and at first they looked at me as if I was speaking another language and then they looked down and nearly crapped themself.
  6. Damn you! I just couldn't resist putting on a few Weird Al songs now
  7. :4:1 Did my 100th jump :) 4-way tube exit from a skyvan into a Horny Gorilla, lots of fun! Yes, I did buy beer!
  8. Here is a pic of my voodoo. http://users.on.net/~traviswood/voodoo2.JPG
  9. I heard, not sure if its true though, that BASE jumping is legal in Aussie National Parks as long as you have a permit, however they have never issued a permit. Also I heard they were reviewing the legallity of BASE jumping this year.
  10. This sport has a very high drop off rate. Most people do tandems as a once off. Then some go onto the FJC. At my DZ only a handful from the FJC go on to complete AFF, and then less complete their B-Rels. It can be hard for some students, not knowing anyone at the DZ, espicially if they fail an AFF or 2 and they get discouraged. The Australian Parachute Federation has said people generally are in this sport for 4 years and then leave or stay on forever.
  11. Thats right, last I heard anyway. Though he is very quiet about it all. He still logs every jump too.
  12. I was watching the TV show Herman's Head when I was about 6 or 7 and saw it on there and said I have to do that. Did a tandem when I was 19 then decided I wanted to get my licence, so worked hard to get the payrises I needed to funded in and then started my AFF at 20.
  13. Found this new article... From http://www.praguemonitor.com/ctk/?id=20050827E00829;story=Skydiver-gets-stuck-on-TV-transmitter
  14. did my first jump (tandem) when I was 19, but didn't do aff until I was 20.
  15. I've noticed some of the very experienced freestyle jumpers using barefeet on videos I've seen. It looks like they use their feet as a control surface.
  16. A guy at my DZ took 49 jumps to get his AFF. He had problems with body position, often went into a turn. But he got there! Damn that was some persistance.
  17. Get a CYPRES2, they are water resistant.
  18. The protrack manual says the mount it on the leg for the best reading as that is where the air is cleanest.
  19. You'd be surprised how many whuffos say "Don't all objects fall at the same speed?" when you talk to them about fallrate.
  20. What are your thoughts on a neptune?
  21. I had some mods done to my rig when I bought it. Replaced the panel with the name on it, shortened some webbing etc. It was done by the manufacturer and I can't tell the difference, it looks perfect.
