I watched a video the other day where the tandem passenger was 14. The DZ was in Canada.

I am wearing a white hoody. It was a great jump, now I want to do more of them. I exited at 3300 and took a 14 second delay. It was awesome. http://www.paddedcellentertainment.com/video/balloon.wmv

Perhaps you are unaware or are only offering a point of view to furthers your point. It is my understand that Bill Booth was against other RSL's due to the fact that it would deploy a reserve canopy with out fully cutaway both right and leftside risers, hence the development of the Skyhook RSL. A broken riser at the rings with an RSL attached would deploy a reserve canopy without cutting away the riser still attached. A reserve deploying into a malfunction main is an ugly prospect. My understanding of Bill Booths point of view regarding RSL's. Hence the modification in the name of further improving the safety of sport parachuting.

Without discussing the level of ones hard deck in this comment, I only want to add. After reviewing the data from my last cutaway as reflected by the Altitrack I was wearing my max speed was reached after the moment I cutaway, shortly thereafter, no more than 170 feet my freefall speed returned to 11 mph under a fully inflated reserve. I lost 900 feet in roughly 6 seconds after having spun up a perfectly functioning main, attempted to fix it, couldn't due to the spin, and then chopped. I was impressed by the speed of the skyhook deployment I experienced on my VectorIII. In this instance I had deployed at 3150 ft, and spun it up just under 2100 ft. What I've always worried about were those final few seconds when a jumper simply runs out of time and altitude.

Is there a point to your post?

Great advice. Thanks

Was that a skyhook deployment? 150 feet from cutaway to open reserve is pretty damn fast. I would say that is pretty normal for a breakaway from a slow speed malfunction without a SkyHook. I do have a skyhook in my Vector3. Not sure if it was the RSL or the release of the reserve pilotchute which got the freebag to line stretch. I'm thinking the skyhook achieved linestretch of the freebag before the reserve pilotchute. I knew where I was in time and space so I took a delay from the cutaway to pull the reserve handle. Before I could pull the reserve handle my reserve was inflated overhead. I didn't pull my reserve handle.

Jump 272 My Sabre2 I opened perfectly at 3100 feet, did a series of toggle spirals to 2300, I started another extremely hard toggle turn at 2150 and at 1900 feet my canopy collapsed and wrapped in about 4 to 5 line twists. The spiral I started continued to 1350 with line twists. I was unable to get the line twists out and chopped it at 1350. I was under my inflated reserve at 1200. All data was captured on my Altitrack. It was a great jump!!!!

Pink Mafia Presents the CIRCUS Edition...

It is shaping up nicely here at Sebastian. The campground is starting to fill up. We've had a little rain with some winds but it looks like it will be leaving overnight. -

How many people are going to be coming down from the Atlanta crowd...? -
Mine is set to TAS. I switched mine to STU because it was not recording hop and pops. It worked fine up and down as if I rode the plane up and rode the plane down in it's normal factory setting. I lost 3 hop and pops as a result and had to change the jump counter to reflect my total number of jumps. I record the entire jump from exit to landing, I've been wanting to see what my speeds are with different maneuvers under canopy, what heights I begin them, what heights I come out of them, loss of AGL in toggle spirals w/ breaks stowed and unstowed -vs- front riser spirals 180,270,360's lower with the canopy I fly. What I've noticed is my slowest freefall speeds come at the 15 second mark. I still do not know if setting it to STU will efect whether it records hop and pops since I have not done any since changing it.

I shouldn't have jumped in the first place. The strongest winds I jumped in were ground gusts 35-37 with my current boat. I did a 180 hard front riser up high, saw I was getting no penetration, as I got lower I did another hard 360 toggle turn, saw I was getting no penetration, disconnected my rsl at 150 feet, went to double fronts, then normal glide just before touching down, as soon as I did touch down I choped my main and walked away from that one. It was better to be on the ground than in the air that day. Operations at the DZ stopped for a few hours after that. I've been working on single front riser turns (mostly 180's) but I keep coming out of them at over 100 to 150 feet, it's not "as fast" or "as fun" but those few landings I can count on one hand have made the difference between my landing not being as precise as I wanted it to be -vs- breaking myself. All of my practice year long prepared me for the 180 front riser turn I needed to use when landing out on New Years day on a golf course. The years worth of practice allowed me to time it perfectly to land next to the golfers and their golf carts I had been wanting to do all year and say "pardon me gentlemen for interupting your play". So instead of fucking up badly New Years day I landed safely and had a blast. It did concern me so many others had such a bad start to this year. I credit my sloth-like progression to old age.
