The new congress and internet neutrality
dorbie replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
I hope this gets through, the big telcos are all too ready to screw up the internet in ways you cannot imagine. They want to set up toll roads and essentially extort the best content providers that help these idiots to sell connectivity to all of us in the first place. They'll be selling you a broadband connection and throttling the download performance to key sites like skydivingmovies.com or youtube unless they cut them a check too. i.e. that broadband they sold you is a lie unless your favorite sites happen to fall for their racket. One trough to stick their snout in is simply not enough. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't charge out the wazoo for broadband already but they're not exactly competitive w.r.t. other nations. Imagine if satellite & cable TV providers actually charged the major channels for their programming instead of the other way around, that's how crazy this is, as usual the pigopolists in the telcos think you their customers are a commodity to be exploited. P.S. those websites already pay for their upstream bandwidth of course, this is just a telco setting up a bandwidth tollroad to THEIR customers in their corner of the network. Everyone's already paying for their connectivity, and even for the amount they use but that's not enough for these pigs. Internet neutrality is important for the protection of customers on both ends of the pipe. -
1) not enough money to be made from it. 2) you have to wait a few hours for the vote to be counted, ABCNBCSBCCNN can't have that! 3) Spoiling a ballot will only invite someone to interpret your intent in this contry and assign your vote where they KNOW you would have wanted it to go.

Now, if they'd mentioned that one before the election.....

That's not a personal attack? No it's not quit hiding behind an accusation. Is that a threat? Very Christian of you! You want to run around pontificating & making conceited remarks about someone's joke like you're high & mighty. Look in the mirror buddy, talk about totally fucking oblivious. -
LOL you signed it too, I thought it was already banned but I guess I'm mistaken, they keep trying. Foxes are unquestionably a pest for many farmers and an absolute scourge for anyone raising wildfowl. Fox hunting (with horses & hounds) is about the most inefficient way imaginable of killing one so let's face it fox hunting is the best thing that has ever happened to foxes. Lamping at night with a trebble 2 sucking them in is definitely the way to go. We should keep fox hunting if only to keep the activists busy with this rather than something important where they could threaten more damage.

Once you introduce technology there will be no end to the "innovation", testing and controversy. It's politics, and in the USA you're led by the nose and riled up over all sorts of bullshit so you'll vote the desired way in future. Ballot Box, papers, pens, send that for engineering analysis. We're on the technology treadmill get your running shows on folks. FWIW if you're gonna sue Diebold out the wazoo you're gonna need some analysis, but I have mixed opinions, Diebold are trusted with your ATMs which are far more critical than an election between the Repubocrats and Demicans in the USA. Politicians here say anything, do what they like, screw the country and you're all to dumb to even notice. You're too busy following their lead over crap like this.

Hopefully the big guy will have a better sense of humour than you. Maybe you'll have to answer for that broom handle up your ass. -

Holy shit i got 2 out of 3 (No truck) always new i was a bit of a cowboy.................I wish i could quit you dave. I suspect your respective Jesuses are closer than your sports. 1 out of 3? -
Douva, that's conveniently selective, you also said this in bold as a heading within your post before going on to give us your definitions: Kallend's quote was indictment enough but taken together in the same thread your message is clear despite your protests, just who are you trying to kid? For all your talk about staying on target you're sure expending a lot of energy on this revisionism. More to the point, if you want to claim you're prepared I hope you gave your proctologist's finger a permit to conceal itself in your sphincter or it's all just a self-gratifying delusion. Of course I don't expect posts online about your regular rectal exams either way, afterall "packing heat" is much more impressive than most other kinds of packing.

P.S. from the site: "GUARANTEES SATISFACTION" What would it take for Richard Hazel to satisfy you after a comment like that? Since he's stuck in the 19th century, put on your best drawl & call up saying "I demand satisfaction sir!"

Making it clear in an instant that the issue is clearly his. What an [edited].

Another logical fallacy is the false choice. This all distracts from the central theme though, if you like staying on target the real message for those who like to consider themselves "prepared" is that guns might be cooler than a finger up the ass, but planning the latter is in fact better preparation to mitigate a real risk.
-
Why waste your energy, if I titled a post "The difference between Douva and a heterosexual", then made remarks characterizing both the insult would be clear no matter how I tried to spin it later. It just defies reason to demand a quote and claim something wasn't said when it's a dominant and patently obvious theme in one's posts.

Good point, I've thought this myself on occasion especially in relation to claims that incidents damage the sport, I've wondered how much damage would be done if skydiving were seen as perfectly safe. People especially whuffo tandems skydive because it's seen as dangerous and a test of your courage/will. It goes on the to-do list because of this, not in spite of it.

You still haven't answered my question--Where did anyone in this thread say you have to carry a gun to be prepared or that you're fearful if you don't carry a gun? It wasn't a question it was you professing a memory lapse, and this is not an interrogation, the thread is there for anyone to check what's been written, I invite them to do so.

Side Airbags? Half an asprin a day? Regular anal probes from your proctologist? I could go on, but I like ending on a high note.

Yup and good luck to them, but look, I have side impact airbags, I don't go issuing proclamations about the prepared man with airbags vs. the fearful, despite the fact that it's closer to the reality than the self-image of some guy with a CC permit. As I said tote a gun by all means, issuing statements about preparedness is going to invite some stark commentary. "I drive quietly with my concealed side impact airbags, exuding the confident assurance of the prepared motorist. Nobody knows I carry, and nobody needs to, it's my business and they'll find out when the time comes. I cruise from intersection to intersection knowing that at any moment I could be t-boned, but I'm not afraid, I'm ready! Those other guys out there, the ones who'll wake up in the ER if they wake up at all, and wish they'd signed for the dealer option. They took the savings then, they thought it could never happen to them....". Sounds better/sillier with some dramatic music fo course.

Detailed specs have that info if you click on the specification tabs at the above URLs, I won't bother repeating it here.

Your theory seems to be that since something else is statistically more likely to kill us, therefore, we shouldn't bother to worry about the less probable causes of death. I'd prefer to say he has his prorities straight. If you get a gun before a defibrilator then you've made a poor choice w.r.t. risk mitigtion, despite all the talk of preparedness. It doesn't carry much weight until someone starts spouting nonsense about how much more prepared they are than the rest of the fearful sheep out there, then it absolutely scuppers that kind of argument. Tote your gun by all means, but when it comes to preparedness the guy who opts for side impact airbags in his vehicle of choice is probably a hundred times better prepared w.r.t. all the risks they face.

Cardiac arrest happens every day. More people die of cardiac arrest than any other cause (including, surprise, being a victim of crime). Do you carry a portable defibrillator with you? I guess this makes him too scared of a heart attack to prepare, or maybe it means he's scared of electricity, I can't figure out which but he's scared of something based on his guiding motto.

The risk is huge, I don't think most people realize what they're doing or just how crazy this is. Your safety in skydiving comes from the combined chances of a save from a main and a reserve. If I make wild guesses at those odds, let's say your main has 1/500 chance of failure (generous odds I think) and your reserve 1/1000 (generous I think but I have less of a handle on this) for all possible reasons, and ignore combined factors. This means that you have 1/500*1/1000 chance to main & reserve failure (ignoring your main interfering with your reserve deployment for our purposes), or a 1/500000 of winding up dealing with a reserve failure per jump. Those odds aren't too bad. but if you keep the odds the same but cut away a good main your odds of a main failure effectively become 1. That laves you with a 1/1000 chance of having a problem with the last chance to save your life. These calculations are somewhat naive and use wild guesses, but go ahead and change the numbers if you like, it won't alter the overall message. It is the fact that your reserve is used as a backup option that provides the innate safety, more than the reliability of its deployment. It's a really foolish thing to do without a tertiary.

I assume that's what he meant by "double cutaway rig". I'd like to try this, does anyone know what the prerequisites are for a RWS' skyhook demo rig jump and what size canopies are in it?
