  1. I hear that to justify a lot of proposals that struggle for justification on their own merits. It seems like the weakest of unproven arguments to me. Can anyone cite incidents where there have been consecutive fatalities that this would have impacted? Fatalities already generate analysis and reports, focusing the energies of experienced dedicated people there to take action based on sound judgement is the right approach. Rigid ill-considered mandates that affect peoples lives are not a better alternative, it's playing politics with peoples lives IMHO.
  2. There's another angle than makes more sense, if you mandate an AAD, and it fires in a swoop or in a low pull and the jumper dies or is injured, then since you have mandated it perhaps you've exposed yourself to some liability. Same with a skyhook, all these systems have benefits and drawbacks. Dictating to someone what gear they should jump with imposes both the benefits and the risks on them.
  3. Well, I don't know, but it seems to me that it takes more attention to the road to throw a supergulp with any accuracy than it does yak away on a cell phone. Just yesterday on the highway I had to swerve to avoid a woman who pulled out of a McD's without stopping or looking, all the while talking on her phone. It may be a dangerous assumption to think we'd all be as good an aim as the felon in this case.
  4. His followers are getting 666 tatoos. You couldn't make this shit up. Great stuff!
  5. Your social status boozing it up with judges and sherriffs doesn't make a compelling case. You've managed to ignore the central point again, the driver's actions are not less reckless because her victims got lucky. If we all threw supergulps at each other on the freeways the morgues would be backed up never mind the criminal justice system.
  6. Why anyone would advocate an inflexible, punitive bureaucratic system that will inevitably create injustice escapes me. We need less of this kind of regulation, not more.
  7. I thought this started with you looking for a skydiving canopy you could GL with too? Doesn't this just add to your expenses even if it's cheap? Get a porosity check on the top skin at least, & make sure it's in resonable trim. Nobody can offer an opinion online better than folks who've seen it.
  8. Yup, I get the impression that the only reason she has any remorse is that she landed on the receiving end of the justice system. What she did was wrong and dangerous. There HAVE to be prosecutions if you're caught doing this kind of thing. It's just bullshit to claim that in Chicago you'd not have been prosecuted for this. Last I heard Chicago has speeding tickets so go shop that rubbish somewhere else. The sentence is disproportioate, perhaps they should fix the law, and maybe Bush can rise from his catatonic stupor and issue a commutation?

  10. But your response is even more likely to be wrong based on the strict definition inherent in your own post.
  11. So far the poll is reaffirming these findings: http://www.damninteresting.com/?p=406
  12. Genius (especially by ponces in the arts).
  13. Has got to be over 50% even including coalition casualties. The place is a meat grinder and most of the fatalities are civilians who are being actively targeted by sectarian groups (dunno what you categorize as an insurgent these days, I'm including anyone on either side of the sectarian violence). This question is a no-brainer, you've got bombs going off in public places on a daily basis killing 60+ civilians.
  14. Beware too old a canopy for GL. Higher porosity is a bad thing and can lead to problems like going parachutal on launch. With limited experience especially you want to make sure your wing is difficult to stall or will recover quickly if you suddenly load it before it is generating full lift (something you will do especially in the beginning, even some experienced ground launch pilots never master this). Older more porous wings are known to cause problems in this area and for a new GL pilot I'd say it is a serious safety concern IF it's too old. Being out of trim is also more critical for flight close to the terrain IMHO, so approach this purchase like your life depends on it.
  15. Stick to your guns, the guy's a tube. Anyone who says this kind of thing is a balloon:
  16. P.S. Maybe some locals could picket his office and make his customers aware of the kind of doctor he is.
  17. He obviously slept through the Mary Magdalene sermon. The thing that puts this over the top for me is he refused a child treatment because of the appearance of the mother. It's a real shame the ethical guidelines of his profession permit this kind of thing. Maybe they need a revision.
  18. Yup, larger aperture and slower film (*lower iso) if shutter speed is an issue.
  19. The only question that remains to be answeres is, will Mexico broadcast his drive back across the border with a patronizing Mexican telling "Dog" he needs to turn his life around.
  20. If Dog was a Mexican citizen who had been convicted of a crime in a Mexican court and jumped bail set by a Mexican judge, I wouldn't care. "Dog" DID JUMP BAIL, and he has been evading capture by Mexico ever since he fled the country. The fact that He's an American is irrelevant, his crime was committed in Mexico. I invite you to argue that Mexicans shoud be free to jump bail in the USA with no chance of extradition or re-capture. You don't have a leg to stand on. I think it's a tragedy for him, and if it was up to me I'd block it as a special case, but he broke Mexican law and jumped bail.
  21. Nice What the fuck is crazy about bringing a rapist to justice???? How would you feel if a team of Mexicans showed up in the USA and grabbed "Dog" off the street and attempted to transport him to Mexico in an extra-judicial kidnapping? Afterall, what's crazy about bringing a kidnapper to justice?
  22. There are a lot of shitty things said in Europe about America an her troops. The loud expression of all that negative sentiment has ramifications. Perception of Europe in America is not exactly at a high right now (shock, horror, it's not a one way street) and I find it interesting to see that people tend to perceive a single opinion from one country or another. They don't recognize that in all those European countries opinion is split (although some would like to pretend otherwise) just as it is in America. It seems that the loudest nastiest voices tend to be the ones that reach across the Atlantic to get noticed, probably in both directions.

  24. Speculating? I think the campaign is DOA. So you think Romney's campaign is DOA because he's a Mormon?
