  1. The president does matter in some ways. Most of his influence is felt by the appointments he makes such as the Secretary of State, Supreme court justices and others of that nature. Where he becomes the scapegoat is in his "sign or veto" power. This is his only real influence in legislature. The recent wall street bail out is a perfect example. Yes he called for congress to act. And when they did, Nancy Pelosi stood on the house floor and gave the most partisan speech that I can recount in recent history. To get the bill to the president, this piece of crap had an extra $150 billion worth of bribes to congressmen to get their votes. Then it was hung around the presidents neck to sign or veto. In the end history of course will blame him for this financial blunder, and not the democtatic lead House that put this piece of shit together. Politics at it's finest. 2. This isn't about trying to fool anyone. We have a new government coming into power and some new policies are coming into effect. There is no denying the mistakes that have been made, but now the end is slowly coming into sight. How are we going to meet it? Yes, over 4,000 americans have died and over 36,000 have been wounded. But if you talk to these people, you will see that they believe in what they are doing. Every stable government in the middle east brings us one step closer to world peace. Backing out now would result in Iraq falling back into Chaos and bring about hundreds of thousands of more deaths, but as long as they are not american it's supposed to be OK? It almost sounds like the environmentalist that says we can't drill in the US responsibly, but it's OK to get oil from an environmental nightmare in another country. Not to mention letting the people who died for something actually die for nothing when the end is in sight. Also, like I mentioned earlier, this is not propaganda. This came from an actual expert who went there to update the powers that be on the progress that is being made. From reports like this is where the media gets their information and spins it to their liking. I thought it would be a fresh change to see something unfiltered. Or did you just read the subject line and decide to comment without reading the report, seeing who was interviewed, or how it even came about? 3. Finally, a real report about Iraq that has not been filtered by a biased news media and given by someone who knows what he is talking about. http://www.mccaffreyassociates.com/pdfs/Iraq_AAR_-_November_2008.pdf What I thought was interesting was that we are approaching the end game in Iraq and all Obama has to do is ride it out and he will appear to be the hero. How convenient. He can, however, really screw things up by pulling out to fast and cause even more problems. We'll see how things go. For those that want to criticise the source. http://www.mccaffreyassociates.com/pages/publications.htm "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 4. I said "other". I'm going to spend it all at Wallmart so it can all go back to China where the government loaned the money from to give us the stimulus check anyway. 5. A truer statement has never been spoken, I'm going to steal it for a signature as soon as I figure out how "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  6. Oh yes, Obama is personally pushing the legislation thru right now. As for the weather front, if there was one big enough to effect the entire coast of Alaska, Al gore would have gotten on his magical stretch 747 limo-jet powered by pixie dust and paid for by royalties from inventing the internet and flown to Alaska sprinkling various endangered species instead of jet exhaust to tell us all "I told you so." It hasn't happened.... yet "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  7. I'm not biased against gay people, my stance is for a whole different reason. For a long time everyone has been trying to completely kick religion out of government, so I strongly believe we also need to keep government out of church. Marriage is between a man and woman in the eyes of god and recognized by the government. I highly disagree with the government telling the church what to do. It's like the civil liberties union wants to have their cake and eat it too. Now on the flip side of that, I am for gay couples having the opportunities to be just as miserable as us straight people. I like allowing civil unions just like in Europe. Giving all the same rights to gay couples as married couples. They can go thru all the divorce proceedings and split up assets, along with receive tax breaks and insure their life partner and all that good stuff just like everyone else. The only thing I would like to see happen for all of this civil union stuff is that if a gay couple have a child together and split up, that the non-custodial parent pay child support, and not go after the sperm donor or however the child was acquired. I think that is fair. All the benefits, all the pit falls. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 8. We are all missing the big picture here. Obama has already said that he would bomb pakistan no matter what they have to say about us chasing Al-Qeda. Everybody remembers pakistan right? The islamic country with Nukes? "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything
  9. As an Alaskan I can say that there has always been a few things that have effected the way we vote. The big problem we have always had is the low voter turn out. With only 3 votes in the electoral college and being so far to the west, Alaskans have never really felt like there votes counted in the presidential election. The everybody already knows who the next president is before we are even half way thru our day to vote. Voters usually only turn out in large numbers if there is a measure on the ballot that is a hot topic in our individual communities. The other thing to note about Alaska is that it is pretty much all rural. Even in the largest city, Anchorage, everyone is still pretty much a country boy (and I say "boy" in a gender neutral sort of way). That means we cling to our guns and religion. As the "Last Frontier" our way of life has been pretty much killed by the democrats during the Clinton years. I guess he didn't approve of a frontiersman's way of life. If you take a look at the last election results you will notice how Obama won was by winning pretty much all of the urban vote. All of the rural areas still went to McCain. With that said, most democrats don't stand a snowball's chance in hell in Alaska. The Democrat that said that Palin will have a "surprise" waiting for her when the investigation results came out will have a reckoning next election cycle. Most people in Alaska would much rather vote for a corrupt Republican than a honest Democrat. Everyone can thank Clnton, Gore, and a laundry list of other tree hugging nature nazi's for the attitude. Yes, my wife can field dress a moose just like "Caribou Barbi". If the democratic party all of the sudden took a stanse that skydiving was a threat to national security and started putting bans on parachutes and closing down dropzones because they were interefering with the breeding habits of spotted owls, how would that effect your vote? 10. Since when is saying the pledge of allegiance not neutral? That's not democrat or republican, that is American. If you want to stand up and say it's showing bias to the good ol' US of A, then so be it, but I don't think that the pledge of allegiance or national anthem is towing the line of a political party. Next thing you know you will be saying baseball is political because they sing the national anthem before the game As far as I could remember the only politics that I have heard of in the class room is the die hard socialists that teach college in Kalifornia. No one can deny that at berkley the only requirement to get a passing grade is to stand up and publicly denounce Bush. Bill Ayers, an un-repentant terrorist is what? A college professor!! No one questions what he teaches. If you ask me, if this teacher was supporting Obama, it never would have made it to the news. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 11. I don't know about the economy, but he is upholding his pledge to be a uniter of the parties and change the way politics is done in washington. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27628719 It looks like partisan politics after all This is coming to you courtesy of MSNBC, who is not biased or in the tank for Obama in any way "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 13. One of many other problems that gay marriages pose. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,271116,00.html We got a long ways to go for equality "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 14. Bush isn't so bad compared to jimmy carter. 21% inflation rate, gas shortages, and the millions of american dollars of dollars he gave away to terrorists as bribes. Did I mention the panama canal? We are still feeling the negative effects of his presidency today. Hopefully the next time he goes to visit his Hamas buddies, he stays there. I can only hope that Obama doesn't try to follow in his footsteps. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 15. It's not that he is black or white, though I do think that the democratic party definitely exploited the race card. It's just that this guy is so far to the left that if he was to ever visit California, the leftward forces exerted on the state would cause it to finally break free of the US and drift towards China or Russia. Both parties have extremists in their ranks, but of the 2 candidates, McCain was the lesser of the 2 evils. All I can do now is cry in my beer and know that the country survived Jimmy Carter, so even though it will be painful, it will survive Obama too. 16. Don't worry Mike, You can make up the difference of the higher taxes by firing a couple of guys, hiring illegal immigrants at half the cost and pay them under the table, and the guys you let go can collect unemployment because the government can now afford to shell out all this extra money they are taxing you. In a way you are still paying their salary, they just aren't working for it. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 19. It's all kind of unfortunate really. Any truth that may be in this little presentation is over shadowed by the lies. The mainstream media is getting almost as bad as this website. A person has to almost be a detective now a days to actually know what is going on. http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/obama.asp "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. 21. The problem is that this isn't going before a court of law. If I read the article right, this is all going before the "Human Rights Commision" The Commision started started life with good intentions but is now getting used to settle hurt feelings with rulings well outside the law. That the Canadian polititians and/or legal system has let this continue just boggles my mind. As I read the article, it became quite clear that the Commision is being used to censor free speech. You hurt someones feelings and you pay. It's turned into a completely seperate legal system. It's like they are slowly eroding their own constitution. 24. I voted "Don't ask don't tell". I really don't have a problem with gays in the military, but some of my assignments have lead to what is best described as "tight quarters". I just don't think I would be to comfortable parading my naked ass around in front of a bunch of gay men. Now if they made all the showers co-ed, then I may reconsider my stance, after all, what is fair is fair. But for right now, ignorance is bliss. If you want to look at my ass, just don't tell me about it. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." 25. For those of you not in the military, I kind of fell in love with the PAC750XL. It is the only aircraft designed specifically for skydivers. Since they are all new, they cost quite a bit though. Has anyone tried to convince Oprah to start a new charity "Jumpplanes for Dropzones" yet?
