GMAC is gonna suck the bailout tit again....
jgoose71 replied to diablopilot's topic in Speakers Corner
OK, now I'm confused. How are the French responsible for this? They are responsible for Obama's way of thinking, and Obama will open up the government check book. (Way of thinking being socialistic, apologetic, and spineless. Sounds French, no?) The debt was: - 900B as Reagan took it in 1981 - 2.7T as Reagan left it - with a 250B/yr deficit - 4T as GHWB left it with a 290b/yr deficit - 5.5T as Clinton left it WITH A 236B SURPLUS AND THE DEBT WAS ALMOST LEVELED - 11.3T As Bush left it and left a MASSIVE MESS OF A DEFICIT, not sure it's actually tallied yet. So tell me, how is D spending so huge and teh R's fiscally responsible? Here is a little clip for you to help put things in perspective. I find it usually helps when someone draws a picture. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5fL469k9qc Yes this clip has been used on speakers corner before. I just thought I would post it again if you missed it. -
Of course handling nuclear material is dangerous, but I do believe that the US has the know-how to do it safely. After all the French are doing it, how hard can it be? (despite being flippant about it, I do know what is involved) Also, with 104 commercial nuclear reactors in the US, Yucca Mountain is starting to fill up. Unless we want to start creating other sites to store our waste, we need to recycle. Yes, it is radioactive material and can be dangerous to handle, but to me that is all the more reason not to let it collect. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. So... We have 2 examples of stuff gone wrong. Chernobyl and 3 mile island. Do you think those problems have been fixed? Or do you think we should shut down the 441 nuclear power plants that are running right now putting out 386.5 GWe of power to the world? (386,500 megawatts or roughly 16% of the worlds energy, that would most likely be compensated for by burning fossil fuels) Also, what is more dangerous, continuing to bury nuclear waste or recycle it? You've said yourself we can find a use for the exotic isotopes. I'm also pretty sure that bring down the the pure quantities that do need to be buried can't be all bad. From what I understand, the only reason we are not recycling right now is because of proliferation fears, and not "because it's dangerous." If we aren't recycling, I willing to bet it's because the oil companies lobbied against it (putting on my tin-foil hat) "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. It's a real shame. There is some good info in the news story. America already has 104 nuclear reactors, more than France. Yucca Mountain (our waste storage facility) already has 56,000 tons of waste and is rated to hold 70,000 tons. When fuel rods are considered "spent" only 5% of the uranium has been used. That is a lot of unused power we are just shoving under ground. I don't even think the article is also taking into consideration the nuclear powered naval vessels we have and the nuclear weapons that get old and have to be taken out of the US inventory. Seriously, does anyone know what the hold up is? Why aren't we using this stuff? Or is it just safer to have a "nuclear landfill?" "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. With all the Talk about "recycling", "save the earth", and "dependence on foreign oil", why aren't we using More nuclear power? Why haven't we lifted the ban on recycling all the buried nuclear waste we have? Isn't it time for Jimmy Carter's legislation to be repealed? Even batterie technology is starting to come around where electric cars may even be viable and eventually affordable. It just seems like a waste letting all that energy sit buried underground creating the next Godzilla. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,318688,00.html "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. How about you, my poor friend? Why do YOU care? Nothing better to do? LMFAO ...... (Methinks, you forgot we're on an internet forum ...) As a matter of fact, I don't have anything better to do. Why do you think I am on SC? Silly "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." How long would they live in their wet dream world
jgoose71 replied to Amazon's topic in Speakers Corner
Depends on how long this contract I am working on lasts. Once that happens I will have a bit of time to go do some more travelling and to visit the third world portions of this country, and observe first hand the quaint customs of the indigenous populations as they perform their peculiar social interactions and mating rituals. Did someone say mating rituals? Check out these moves... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPWOZZIzDyo&feature=related "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. How short are the memories. The bailouts were initiated by the Bush administration. The financial industry precipitated this mess because deregulators left no adult supervision of the banks. And they have no Adult supervision for the last 6 years because of Barney Frank. But you go ahead and keep blaming Bush. If you say "it's Bushes' fault" enough, it will magically fix itself. Note: I selectively quoted so that the part I care about doesn't get lost. It isn't about differentiating it or wearing it on their sleeve, it's about having to hide who you really are to avoid getting thrown out. This is actually kind of funny. I'm straight, but most of my posts here in SC this week are about gay rights. It's more of a tirade against inolerant bullies (Note intolerant, not homophobic) than anything else I guess. Not to imply that Gawain is intolerant or a bully, just a general comment on my "gay rights" stand of late. I'm not homophobic or biased. I have even had a couple of gay friends (though not in the military) and I have no problems with them. The problem we run into in the military, and especially in the Navy, is the close quarters, lack of privacy, and no personal space. Here is my personal stance on gays serving openly in the military: "Gays can serve openly when we co-ed the showers! If my wet, naked ass is going to be eye-candy for some one, I need some eye-candy myself. Fair is fair." Think on that for a while "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Well, on behalf of the entire DZ.com community, let me apologize. If anyone called you an insensitive asshole, they clearly didn't see the caring comments you made like the one just above. You rag on his comment, but the truth is to fix a problem you have to identify the problem and the cause first. Sorry if the truth sometimes hurts. I've used the opening scene from "Idiocracy" in several posts before. This seems to be the perfect thread for it though. This is really where I see the future if things keep going the way they are. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/2682654/idiocracy_opening_sequence/ Either natural selection or start modifying the gene pool. Stupid should still hurt. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything

Did "fair and balanced" FOX give equal time discussing Ms. Dunn's other favorite philosopher, Mother Teresa? I do watch FOX quite a bit. Bill O had said that Ms. Dunn had also mentioned Mother Theresa in her speech. He also suggested that while he was a mass murderer that she (Ms. Dunn) was only referring to certain pieces of his philosophies such as "find your own path" and not the mass murder bit and suggested that she clarify. How is this slanted? There is however Glenn Beck who hates all politicians and Sean Hannity who hates all liberals. They will never say anything nice about Obama. But they are Opinion shows. Everyone knows the difference between Op Ed's and News Anchors right? Everyone else is pretty much a news anchor. I can understand why Obama would hate fox though. While news outlets like MSNBC, ABC, CBS have been specifically picking reporters to cover Obama that get a "thrill down there leg" like Chris Matthews seen here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no9fpKVXxCc Fox news still challenges the president. Does any other news agency demand that Obama post the new health care bills on the web for all to see? Does anyone else try to hold Obama to his promise for an open and honest government? Obama promised a new era of openness and honesty, yet they can't post the new bill on the web because they can't figure out how. Quetions need to be asked, unless you want to be lead along like sheep. Some people have forgotten that the reason we have a free press is to question our politicians and hold them accountable. so the trick is to make it so completely safe, that we can go ridiculously fast and out of control and still live - thus increasing our adreneline intake in a natural fashion Dare I say...... If you want to know how Obama will handle the situation, just go back a couple of months to the Iranian election and then the brutal crack down of the Iranian people after the corrupt results were released. Believe it or not, we do have enough published history with Obama and the people he surrounds himself with to guess what he will do. For those that haven't been paying attention, he will talk tough, but Iran will have nukes and we will just wag a finger at them. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming the baggy pants, long hair, loud music, or video games. I'm blaming the drugs, the wanting to bust-a-cap for any disrespect, lack of wanting to be a father figure, lack of respect of women, lack of wanting to get an education, and lack of a work ethic. It's all in the attitude. And correct me if I'm wrong, but don't the people make up the culture? Can you show me how the wanna-be gangstas of the Hip-Hop Culture are progressing any cause? That may keep kids from getting to far down the family tree but i dont see its relivence here. it seems to be highly relevant - are you saying they shouldn't learn their history? WTF? Try reading what i wrote Try actualy looking at the issue in your country instead of acting like you know what is going on in ours Get a life! you don't think teaching the history of slavery is a good idea? You are so wrapped up in racism that the point is going right over your head. "I don't know who my grandpa is so I'm going to be a drug dealing prostitute" is an excuse. What's going to help the groups living in poverty is education, positive role models, and just a big glass of "act right". The hip-hop culture, which is modeled after prison life, is the biggest deterrent of progress today in the black communities. i think you'll find institutional racism is the biggest deterrent of progress in the black communities... And this is the fundamental difference in our view points. You believe that the black man will never amount to anything because the system is set up to keep him down. I believe that if he belts his pants up over his ass, studies hard in school, and stays off drugs, he can become president of the United States. Institution versus personal responsibility. Who sounds racist here? You make the call. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." More on balancing terrorism investigation and civil liberties

There is no question that if it wasn't for the Patriot Act, we never would have caught Zazi. I think in today's world there does need to be some kind of program in place. Under the patriot act, a person is not out there listening to every conversation in existence. Instead, a computer program "Red Flags" pre-determined suspect behavior. If Zazi hadn't been flagged making trips to Pakistan, who knows what would have happened. Because of my line of work, I know from time to time I got people looking over my shoulder when I get on line to research chemical weapons, Home Made Explosives, Biological agents, etc. However, I know the kind of damage some of this stuff can do and how easy it is to make, and I want my friends and family protected, so I am OK with it. The problems come when the government starts restricting activities and people. Monitoring is one thing, restricting is another. Like I've said before though, my opinion is slightly biased. Take it for what it is worth. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Life, the Universe, and Everything -

This is one of the most wrong statements I have ever seen. having a military does not make the country socialist. All countries have the right to defend their sovereignty. Also, nobody looks to you to fix all of their problems. Everyone comes to the US looking for help. You also have not promised yourself to Israel. Yes, you have a military, but your biggest threat to your country, as you have just said, is poachers in your territorial waters. New Zealand having a huge military is like Switzerland needing a huge military. The other part o the equation that you are missing is the population of NZ and AUS. Your not trying to cover nearly as many people with your health care. Also, as you have stated, your country has something to export, therefor are able to levy taxes from all. America hasn't forced anyone to trade in dollars. It's just convenient since everyone wants to trade in America. Having one of the most open and capitalist based markets, it's where everyone wanted to go because we had to smallest tariffs and the least amount of corruption (for a while anyway) of any other market. You want to trade in America, you trade in American dollars. When NZ becomes the economic center of the Universe, we will all trade in NZ$. You've pretty much made my point for me. Yes we have the super rich, and they are the ones who have to start the new industries in the US. Yes, all we export is crappy cars. With that said, who are we going to tax to pay for health care? The super rich? If the US doesn't have some kind of industry to replenish the coffers, even they will run out of money after a while, or leave the country. California right now is the perfect example. Every one is saying health care now, but no one knows how they will pay for it. Having a real industry and jobs should be the priority. Once we have a strong market place, then maybe look at health care, otherwise who is going to pay for it? America is on the verge of collapse unless we start to produce something. If we don't produce and try to socialize our health care, we are just speeding up our demise. You are lucky that a flood of illegal immigrants haven't ruined your farms and other industries yet. And you still never answered the question of if you would sign a document before you read it. You think we need health care now, but do you know all the legal ins and outs of what is involved with that piece of crap on the senate floor? If you did, you would vote hell no. All the legalese, double speak, and false promises is the reason they want to push it through in a hurry. Every country is different. Just because it may work in NZ, AUS, Switzerland, and a few others doesn't mean it will work in the US. Our circumstances are different. Huge commitments over seas and no industry are a bad combination. "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss."
