Are you suggesting the jumpers need to make proper delays to get enough separation in a case of emergency when the plane looses power and begins to loose altitude at 2k? Dudes ... may we should all shut up and wait until someone who has more experience, jumps and years in sport steps in and makes a detailed post about bailouts.

With all due respect. Since your profile indicates that you made 177 jumps in 92 years, I am afraid that your training method is a little bit outdated. Whom I am supposed to look at, what I am supposed to grab and what I supposed to deploy if I sit by the door of twin otter and hear pilot yelling everybody out at 5K? Erika, Opening elliptical main canopies in crowded airspace would be my concern.

I believe many students associate hop'n'pops with "jumping from low altidute" and rush the things thinking that they need to deploy the main parachute quicker then usually. I had very similar problem on my first hop'n'pop (jump #10) and was scared of hop'n'pops for a while. I also saw quite a few students (who were already used to pulling at about 4K on normal freefall jumps) trying to pitch immediately after leaving the plane (literally almost on the step) on hop'n'pop from 5.5K. If you leave the plane at 4 grand, it will probably take you about 10 seconds to get to 3K. Understanding this will help to relax on hop’n’pops. P.S. I am not an instructor so please take this with a grain of salt. P.P.S. First jump on your own pack job is quite a confidence builder isn’t it?

Funny Russian Skydiving Video...

Some people would probably argue that this really depends on your body position. We have an instructor who swears that you can feel quite comfortable flying without goggles if you fly in good mantis (head high). The theory is that you cheeks get pushed up by the relative wind and this creates the low pressure area around your eyes. Sounds pretty reasonable, but I have not yet tried it myself -

Oh my god. This is hilarious. -
The trick I learned from a fellow race car driver (who himself is a big pain in a butt for police because of his style of driving on street roads) is to always slow down at intersections and scan for potential cars running the red light even when you have a green. Always. Technically there is a small window between the point when yellow turns into red and the red turns into green on perpendicular road. This gap reduces the chances of collisions but in reality we cannot trust anyone on the road. Here is another example. You are at the stop light and about to make a right turn onto a bigger road. There is a car approaching you from the left. The car has a right turn signal ON. Technically, this car is not a hazard. In reality, they often keep going forward (potentially hitting you at high rate of speed).

Cool pics, thanks for sharing I really miss this city ... almost as much as my home town

Hm ... I didn't realize there are so many single gals out there

I think we are deviating from the main point. He wanted some books on technical aspects of body flight and most of our advice is on mental training. ;)]

Has anybody seen the movie? Hilary Swank is amazing. I really like her performance in "Boys don't cry" and the new film is also excellent. Hope she gets a second Oscar!

I would like to add "The inner game of tennis" to Dave's list. Just replace tennis with skydiving when you read the book. Skydive University sells a tape/DVD "Basic body flight theory". It does not cover the newest and most advanced techniques, but the basic principles are explained pretty well. Also, keep in mind that there is more than just flying you body. The information on how to fly relatively to the others, take grips and maintain the visual contact is scattered. The best way to learn this would be to talk to some experienced FS person at your DZ or tunnel coach. Edit to add a link: http://www.skydiveu.com/

Ron, Your unbiased opinion is always important for me but NO. The decision is made - we will be challenging you guys this year

Grrrr ... I feel like a little kid who is not allowed to play with big kids May be I should try again a 'why-don't-we-do-a-whole-pool-and-fight-for-the-last-place-in advanced” discussion with my teammates

That's really sick. Lol ... look at yourself Visualizing is ok. What's sick is having two copies of The Best of Airspeed because one of them is practically worn out after a year of every day watching ... And what’s really sick is remembering the draws they jumped several years ago ... I am not watching it now, but I can tell that the first round at 2001 World meet was 8-19-16.

Same here. We are doing intermediate too but I like engineering and visualizing the whole pool.
-
As far as I understand it will require a slot switch for front (or rear) piece. So it will not be included into intermediate pool?
