  1. You aren't really a very good salesman for Christianity. So many of your views put it in a bad light. But nonetheless as a culturally Christian man with many pagan based decorations in my house I sincerely wish you the best of the Holiday Season and I hope you and your family can be together to enjoy it along with all the members of your tight little well armed tribe.
  2. The other thing it reminds me of is chain letters. 30 years or so ago they were a thing in my life. I had several intense young men, all peers of mine trying to convince me that if I would only get into their chain I would make a ton of money and so would everyone else. It was impossible to make them see that they were not only illegal, but immoral as well. I believe they were sincere, but I don't really understand why they were so easily willing to be blind to the truth.
  3. And this is the heart of where we are going. Unless the reich wins the culture wars.
  4. It is not a Ponzi scheme either, although FTX has turned out to be one. It lacks a central figure directing it. It is a new and different thing. It isn't tulips either. The closest thing I can think of is that it's a little like holding gold with the key difference being that you can actually physically hold the gold if you want to. The one thing good about it is that it lacks any government control over the supply of it. It is risky to hold because you can lose your key easily so exchanges get set up to make it easier. But that destroys the very essence of what it was supposed to be. "Crypto exchange" is just another way of saying "poorly regulated bank". It has become a horrible waste of resources in the form of energy for mining it. People try to say that it represents a new way for people of limited means to become wealthy. Where in the F-ck is the wealth supposed to come from if not other suckers? Give me a break.
  5. Except one is on a time scale of centuries, the other less than a single lifetime. I repeat, is it a currency or is it an investment? Currencies don't go through wild swings in value driven by nothing but pure speculation. It is not a currency it is a casino like gambling scheme. It is all shiny and new because it is tech driven and has captured the zeitgeist.
  6. Only if the big guy is willing to play. In the end it is sort of like a game of chicken. Speculation, greed and fear just like the price of equities. Only with no assets to provide profits. It goes up and down by huge amounts and there are winners and losers among those who buy and sell. But nothing produced other than sales for server providers. All crypto will eventually become worthless but many fortunes will be won and lost getting there. A scam with no real people running it but many trying to and getting pieces along the way. Truly a phenomenon not quite like any other seen before.
  7. So, is it supposed to be a currency? Or an investment? Where is the value supposed to come from? Nothin from nothin leaves nuthin.
  8. He probably consumes right wing websites or forums as well as this one. That would explain the cut and paste nonsense even better than watching FOX and remembering the words.
  9. No, their investments aren't paying well, but their costs are decreasing. To be fair it is probably not just the US experiencing declines in life expectancy. I'm sure someone here will be along shortly to try to pin the blame on vaccines. https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2022/12/22/1144864971/american-life-expectancy-is-now-at-its-lowest-in-nearly-two-decades
  10. Not nearly as often as children die accidentally from gun play.
  11. The canopy wrapped around the wire. It had to, the energy of his motion had to go somewhere. Only 3 feet up still means it slid down the wire, and it slid down with both weight and speed pulling it. Fly a canopy at 15 to twenty miles an hour forward speed and whatever down with the weight of a human probably a couple hundred pounds into a 1/4 inch piece of steel wire under tension and what do YOU think is going to happen? In any case the proof is right there in the hands of whoever is taking the picture. The damaged areas don't match up perfectly because it is nylon fabric and it is flexible.
  12. That pretty much makes perfect sense. Not much doubt that the frontal impact was with the centre and then the canopy was pulled down the guy wire. A few feet of that abuse was enough to do the damage to both the top and bottom because the centre cell was pushed together. The damage did not happen by magic and you know what it contacted. I don't really understand why there is any mystery about this.
  13. Probably from sliding along the guy wire. They have hardware with sharp edges along them. I like FCI reserves. I'm going to pack a Firelite today. (one size smaller than the Maverick)
  14. Over the weekend Trump issued orders to the MAGAt holdout congressmen to accept and vote for McCarthy for Speaker. If that does happen it will demonstrate renewed strength and vigour of his influence in the R universe.

    Will they play Wagner pieces?
  16. I wonder why Jared was summoned as well?
  17. After reading what has been linked to here, probably not. It is not even using the method thought to be the most promising for commercial application. The fusion device 93 million miles away is still our best bet for clean energy. I do appreciate the work being done to explore physics at this laboratory, but let's not forget that its main purpose is improving fusion weapons and ensuring that they have the level of destructiveness wanted without actually having to test them.
  18. The right wing is not known for subtlety or deep thought. It is always reactionary and judgmental. Always looking back and seldom forward is another strong trait. When most of the world is moving steadily away from your posistion I guess you begin to look for any victory you can grasp onto no matter how slippery it may be.
  19. You must be younger than me. They were once very useful primary reference sources.
  20. The arc of his journey is beginning to resemble that of Nikola Tesla.

    Ukraine

Yes, I generally haul raw materials south and finished goods back. Not a problem for me at all. It may become one for you though. But don't worry, Canada will cover your back door for you even when you run out of credit to keep your bullet making machines running.

    Ukraine

That is the only reasonable plan, even if it is unrealistic. Ukraine is already stretched pretty thin. The Russian posturing in Belarus is likely aimed at keeping Ukraine occupied on another intensive front. It is not in a posistion to invade Belarus and even with the mighty Arms of America that have been shared with it could only launch nuisance attacks. If Ukraine was capable of attacking Russian posistion in Belarus it would also be capable of attacking them in Russia, which is what I favour. However so far they are only barely able to attack them in some of the Russian occupied areas of their own territories. When are you ever going to do something about your insane and unsustainable levels of national debt supported by China and the rest of the world?
