Although all wingsuit BASE jumpers are or were skydivers they did not get all the way to that activity without finding out that it is risky. None of them would be saved by anything they learn here. A sticky explaining that at the top of the page would be appropriate in my opinion. By discussing these events here we only give newcomers and outsiders the impression that this epidemic of casualties is related to our sport and that the activity is part of our sport. It is no more so than hang gliding fatalities are. If your friend is involved in one of these incidents it may be appropriate to post to the Blue Skies page. Enough of this. If people want to do this activity then that's fine with me. But let's keep the death announcements out of this forum. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Please define "suck ass" Seriously, I jump with one on my back often but have never needed it. What am I going have over my head that I don't like? Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

It always amazes me. Skydivers. They take up a risky adrenaline sport, then tell themselves that the drive to the DZ is riskier than jumping. Believe that the way they learned is the absolute best and that DZs other than the one they are emotionally attached to are inferior. Criticize what they don't do themselves as beyond the boundaries. And show a remarkable ability to take utube videos out of context. Yes, there are risks to this stunt. No, that does not make it "wrong" as long as the participants are all willing to assume the risk. Just like the crazy stuff your mothers all wish you wouldn't do. Rant over. It's called USPA, not USFFA for a reason. Deploying, flying and landing a parachute is the essence of skydiving. You should be as concerned as any other student, no more and no less. It already sounds like you mostly understand that and have a good attitude toward learning. Attitude is probably the most important part of your current skill set. Good luck and have fun. I suppose that may be correct. However skydivers no longer use these reserves. The point is that the OP should not be thinking that her reserve is designed to be operated while unconscious. CYPRES saves seldom result from being unconscious, unless you count lack situational awareness as being unconscious. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Anyone contemplating landing any parachute unconscious or too disabled to control it has no reason to expect to survive the inevitable injuries. That is not what the system is designed to do. You may get lucky, and you can increase your odds with more nylon, but if you require this sort of protection you should not skydive. It does not exist. Tears on top skin. Patch it or replace the top skin panel?

Really? You have the opinion of the manufacturer yet you feel the need to ask here? No, don't get it done. They are just like the brake shop, don't believe them either. They are all out to rip you off. Use your lines and your brakes until they fail. Don't be a sucker. But seriously it depends on whether or not you want to go though the trouble of relining it down the road, and what your tolerance is for an out of trim canopy. At lighter wing loadings a lot of canopies work well even out of trim. I would lean toward the factory reline. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. I did read the thread. I was replying to a specific post within the thread. Thank you for your input. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Ok, I'll take a stab at it. Given the amount of information so far in this thread it sounds like a fair deal. Not too high or too low. That is only my opinion based on the limited info, but I think that what you really want to know is whether or not it seems reasonable. It does to me. I hope this is helpful to you. I really don't get understand the problem with radios being expressed here. We use Motorola pagers. They clip onto the chest strap and have a simple cloth pouch with holes for the speaker. We are a 182 DZ in Canada and do a lot of IAD first jumps as well as PFF. (Canadian AFF). Under CSPA rules students are required to have radios. I spend a lot of time on the ground talking to first jumpers using this system, which is the same system used for my first jump 21 years ago and for many years before that. It's simple, reliable, and gets great results. It is very quiet under canopy with a Manta or other large student canopy over your head. Unless you have hearing problems this system works just fine. As would the system Chris is suggesting. I'd be glad to answer any questions you may have. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I have three thoughts. The first is that students are known to occasionally deploy in unstable positions and that there is a very real snag hazard there. My other thought is that we really don't have any context to the picture, we don't know how the radio is attached, or even if it really is a student. Third one is I'm sure that won't stop anyone from tossing out uninformed opinions here. I'm pretty sure I could post just about any random picture of a skydive here and get many opinions on all the wrong things. Yes, it's binding tape. The picture on the Russian web site shows two versions. One with yellow tabs and one with red. They appear to be sewn differently. I'm guessing the red one is meant for reserves. They were on a reserve when I got them. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Spectra, the canopy came to me from Lithuania. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

People who keep growing and learning stay in the sport. If you don't have goals you will lose interest. Especially important is to work toward coach and instructor ratings. No matter how much you learn there is always more. Individual jumps can get boring, but that is only part of the story. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. It is my belief that the wiki definition agrees with you and supports your position. That was the point I was trying to make. Does that help? Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I posted the wiki entry. I thought it supported your position completely. I agree with you and thought others were obtuse. But I don't really know if the Pilot and Hornet are the same planform. They certainly could be. Ken Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

A set of these came to me on a Swift Plus I bought. I won't be using them for that! They are very long, probably need to wrap three times. Does anyone recognize these, or are they home made? What? Why are you asking here? Why isn't she asking herself? Try asking her. Are you a skydive instructor? If you are you don't need us. But I don't think you are since you are talking about ground launching her. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I have them both and I use them, every time. It's not the only way, but it is the easiest. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I always use mine for any outside work. I change lenses and zoom in and out depending on what I'm doing. If I want to fill the frame with my subject I need to know where the center of the frame is. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

I don't know why they call it universal. That picture shows a Vector RSL and pin used for a Skyhook. Probably the same as a Javelin equipped with a Skyhook. It is only part of the RSL, Skyhooks are somewhat complicated. Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.

Depends on how long it took to get you stable and deploy that drogue thingy. You know about the drogue thingy don't you? Always remember the brave children who died defending your right to bear arms. Freedom is not free.
