How serious is it? If it is handled correctly, and it was, not very serious. There is potential for this to lead to a very serious incident. Allowing the drogue to entangle with you, or any part of the tandem pair was definitely an error on the part of the instructor. However it is something that is trained for, and his actions in dealing with the problem were perfect. BTW, give yourself extra points for having the awareness to realize what had happened and trying to get it off. If you want an abrasive material damaging your canopy do this. I wasn't serious. Baby smooth talc wouldn't help with a slick canopy. It's fun to watch someone slipping around the floor. I know someone who makes line sets. If you show up at the DZ with a new canopy to be installed he will measure where the cascades are and add the information to his personal data base. I've been using the thing for 6 weeks now. I no longer understand how I did without it. It not only makes the job easier, but it allows me to do a nicer job because I have my hands free to make small adjustments as I go. I'm starting to think that whatever cx series camera you have, it already has a step up to 37mm adapter installed. That's why you can't screw on your 30mm lens. Yes, I was thinking of Spectra in my comment. The more dimensionally stable line types are more stable precisely because they are more heat resistant. Even so, you would want to be pretty careful applying the heat. If this becomes popular it won't be long till some people start to overdo it.
