We did. But because we are not rich and powerful enough to have developed an empire we are not braggadocious. Just a little smug.

The puffed up patriotism that Americans tend to show is somewhat laughable. The projection of feelings of superiority in terms like "Manifest Destiny" and "City on a Hill" are downright obnoxious. But they did come to these feelings honestly. They learned them at the knee of the equally dreadful 18th century English.

How do you feel about full citizens killing each other? Moral outrage is highly selective in all of us I suppose.
-
Yes. The same as the RonD argument. What really matters is the feels. Facts are nothing in the face of your feels.
-
Well yes. But I would appreciate it if you did not misquote me.

The LA police have a very long history of being shitheads on patrol.

The problem with that argument is simply that the situation will reach the level of rebellion whenever the president decides that it has reached that level. And the current president is not someone who can be trusted not to abuse that power. I know you love your constitution, but it has proven to be inadequate at protecting your rights and the rights of your fellow citizens.

Yes, and there is a law that only Congress can make war. Also routinely ignored. Martial law in the United States refers to times in United States history in which a region, state, city, or the whole United States was placed under the control of a military body. On a national level, both the US President and the US Congress have the power, within certain constraints, to impose martial law since both can be in charge of the militia. In nearly every state, the governor has the power to impose martial law within the borders of the state.[1] In the United States, martial law has been used in a limited number of circumstances, such as New Orleans during the Battle of New Orleans; after major disasters, such as the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, or during riots, such as the Omaha race riot of 1919 or the 1920 Lexington riots; local leaders declared martial law to protect themselves from mob violence, such as Nauvoo, Illinois, during the Illinois Mormon War, or Utah during the Utah War; or in response to chaos associated with protests and rioting, such as the 1934 West Coast waterfront strike, in Hawaii after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, and during the Civil Rights Movement in response to the Cambridge riot of 1963. Much more here.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martial_law_in_the_United_States Specifically this.... 2025 Executive Order [edit] On April 28, 2025, President Donald Trump published an executive order titled Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens. Section 4 of the order "Using National Security Assets for Law and Order" mandates that the Secretary of Defense determine routes to use military in law enforcement capacities.[33]

While it's generally understood that a governor can enact martial law at the state level, it's important to note that the US Constitution doesn't explicitly grant the power to declare martial law to either the President or the governors. However, in practice, the President can invoke martial law on a national level, and governors can invoke it within their state. Elaboration: Federal Power: Both the President and Congress have the authority to declare martial law at the national level, as they are in charge of the militia. State Power: Governors have the authority to declare martial law within their state's borders, a power also granted by nearly every state's constitution. No Explicit Constitutional Provision: The US Constitution doesn't explicitly grant the power to declare martial law to either the President or the Governors. Practical Application: In practice, the President and Governors can invoke martial law in their respective jurisdictions, even without a formal proclamation, as a means of dealing with emergencies.

A little blood letting is just the thing needed to begin the purification process.

Definitely an inflection point, perhaps leading to a turning point one way or another. We are living in interesting times.

Hopefully the Canadian military leadership is studying this.

He needs a nickname. How about Brownie? Works on a couple levels.

It is not hard to understand, it’s rather simple. They like his policies better than those of any alternatives. It’s not like they actually have to personally interact with the man.

I was just informed of a price increase on a European made AAD that is being blamed on the 10% tariff being imposed on imports into the USA. Of course I am in Canada, but the distributor of the product is in the US. I will be exploring the possibility of bypassing the North American distributor, or perhaps direct shipping to Canada.

Not a problem. They will just lower executive pay to make up the shortfall.

One of the strengths (which can also be seen as a weakness) of USA politics is the fact that there is no federally controlled electoral system. It would be hard for a POTUS to stop or control 50 independent state systems like Marcos, or Putin.
-
No, but it does need to be a temporary assignment, not a permanent job.

Why not telephone and elevator operators as well? But seriously how would these incentives work?
-
What decade are you living in?
-
How long? Probably about 2 months before the mid term elections.

Damned eggheads ruin everything.

Pretty much had to. There was nothing you or Nancy or Chuck really could have done. The man was still strong enough to be stubborn and the only real argument was that he could not last four years. Just like with RBG stubborn pride screwed the nation and it is only themselves that are to blame. Actually Biden should not have been nominated in 2019 either. And that is where the party went wrong.

I can remember doing so. Actually I remember that many people knew that all along. But once it became clear that he was going to run anyway everyone just grabbed onto the thin straw of hope that it would work out. Politicians are vain by nature. You have to be to go through what they must. Biden is no different.
