    Yes, none of what happened yesterday in America could happen in any of those countries. Because the population knows they would be cut down in the streets if they tried. They can gloat all they want but the fact is that American democracy has not really been damaged at all. It has stood the test and been upheld. There has not been a coup attempt, there has merely been a madman at the helm who egged on a large crowd of rabble. It was an extraordinary event, but not a real challenge to the established order. What needs to happen now is for Biden to take office and for Trump to face some effective legal penalty.

    But it got them 3 SC appointments. And prevented a second Clinton presidency. And set progress back at least four years. And changed the terms of the debate. Only some of the damage can be easily undone and the culture wars are not even close to being decided in the nearly evenly divided congress. The GOP just barely lost, in two short years they stand a very good chance of taking back both chambers. They still have the left wing of the opposition to rail against and to frighten white America with. The deplorables will not abandon them. Fox news and all the rabble rousing media will find new champions. Stephan Miller and Steve Bannon will both re-group. The Proud Boys are still disgruntled and the security apparatus is still riddled with their supporters. Progress comes only in fits and starts and every day is a new chapter in a constant battle.

    Yup. Just because in the last 24 hours or so it has now become fashionable for Rs to abandon the Trump ship, just days before he leaves office, does not mean that Trump could not win the 2024 nomination given the way the primary election system works in the USA. They all stood against him when they thought he could not get it leading up to 2016 and they all kowtowed to him with few exceptions when he won. Trump will retain enormous popularity among the deplorables. Ted Cruz will not win them over no matter how hard he tries. Trump needs to be prosecuted for something in order to stop him and as deterrence to others. He does not necessarily need to be jailed, but he needs to become a felon. I'm sure there is an economic law he has broken that can be the vehicle to make this happen.

    I used to think baby news was boring. Then I got a grandson and now a granddaughter on the way. Suddenly babies are awesome! Congratulations! And guess what? My daughter is also a teacher.

    Like I said a couple times already, I no longer read Brent's nonsense. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy watching all y'all shredding him.

    I'm not going to take a position on that. But it is interesting that Moderna has long been a promising company with a new technology that has had a lot of money pumped into with nothing but failures and losses to show for it over a decade, At this point, they need a success very badly and have a lot of reason to try to get as much revenue out of this vaccine as possible. They are a one product company at this point, up from being a failing company.

    I was just reading that because it is not an expired term Loeffler will remain a Senator until Warnock is sworn in. No doubt many delaying tactics will be tried in that contest. Ossoff may get there before Warnock.

    It's amazing what can happen when the people push back against voter suppression and are actually motivated to turn out. Stacey Abrams for governor 2022! If this holds up like it should it will be pretty sweet to see Moscow Mitch knocked down from his perch.
