Yes this. A heat pump does not create energy it moves it. Unless you dig a hole where you are stuck and use geo-thermal, a heat pump is not going to keep you warm. It is -30 C here this morning. Your model Y is not going to be able to extract much heat from it's surroundings.

Yes, this is why I never have a hard time crossing from Manitoba into North Dakota. The people charged with guarding America's frontier are taught to be suspicious and to do their best to protect the nation. They do this primarily through ensuring the correct documentation is present. But the secondary methods involve very subjective judgements. I roll up to the window as a 63 year old white man with no discernable accent. And my hair is usually cut short enough that I look military. I always wear my Canadian Legion marked mask at the border. These people mostly have military backgrounds. They make small talk with me as I get processed. Only if I have a cargo that is radioactive (potash) do I get any more attention than that. And that only involves driving through a scanning machine. And that is my white privilege story.

You are part of my tribe, even though you do like Paul Anka. So I will just mostly agree with you and say racism is merely a subset of tribalism.

My position is that we are all racist and all tribal. It is innate in our social structure. But there can be huge amounts of overlap in the groups we relate to, which is where "I'm not racist because I have black (or white) friends" comes from. We must all be aware of this and examine our actions and the reasons behind them carefully.

Yes Jerry, And it has unfolded mostly as I thought it would. Actually a little better as I didn't anticipate that we would make real efforts to avoid the worst, and the vaccines are more effective and coming faster that I would have guessed. I'm not as old as you, but I also like Chad & Jeremy and find myself listening to a lot of 60s music lately. As far as being a major event goes, I hope this will be the most major one in my time.

Meh.....long distance truck drivers are required to take one 30 minute break in 11 hours of driving daily. If I had to make 40 minute stops every 200 miles or so it would completely ruin the whole gig. EVs are not suited to long trips. Just because it can be done does not mean people will want to do it.
