I guess it's because I dislike the whole circus and promotional thing. I certainly am not worried about skydiving looking bad. There is no such thing as bad publicity. If there is anything to worry about being carried over to skydiving it would be more young men with unrealistic expectations showing up at the DZ to learn cool stunts. But we already deal with that all the time anyway. I much prefer the typical BASE ethic where for the most part you do extreme things and only your close friends know about it. And that is the other part. Some of the target audience for these things has bloodlust. Will the gladiator slay the lion? It will only sell as a live event. No one pays to watch stuff like this if they know the outcome. I will likely watch it as well. But certainly not on pay per view .It will still be cool to see footage a week later on Youtube. I don't feel a need to see death defied.

No one ever starts negotiations from the point they would settle for. And the reality on the ground changes everything. Ukraine will lose Crimea for sure. And since they did not fight to keep it they deserve to lose it. Everything else is up for grabs. There is no force in the world that can impose a peace right now. Only when terms are agreed to will there be peace and the terms will absolutely not include peace keepers unless Russia completely disintegrates. Zelensky will continue to pressure the west for things that he knows they will not provide and this is also a form of negotiation. He is doing everything he can to keep the conflict in the public eye knowing that will increase pressure on the west to do as much as it is willing to. If the situation does not improve soon it will escalate one way or another and the west will get more and more involved. Russia will be permanently diminished by this fiasco. It is not impossible that they will decide to diminish the rest of the world at the same time. And they have the means to do so.

They are not just arbitrary numbers. They are numbers that our lives are organized around. There is a reason we don't run the world on UTC and have everyone on the same shifts at the same time. We are still animals and are still ruled by the seasons and the Sun. Every year it's the same thing. In the spring a bunch of people start complaining about moving clocks and "losing" an hour. In the fall no one cares. That is how freaking short sighted people can be.

There does seem to be at least one person on the project who is a real engineer. "Paulo is renowned Brazilian aeronautical engineer Paulo Iscold,"

Good question. The promo videos I have seen make that unclear. The CG sim shows wingsuits with no visible rig. But that is not stated and likely because the whole point is to make it appear as risky as they possibly can in order to get as many viewers as possible.

President Biden is to Blame for the War in Ukraine
gowlerk replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
They will do their best to sell this idea. Biden's response to this crisis is polling fairly well and his momentum must be stopped. -
That is because the issue is nationwide and what you call "stricter laws" are anything but strict and completely ineffective. You are completely correct. State gun laws in the US are ineffectual and always will be.

The Canadian perspective on the price is a little different. The transportation method would not reduce the price, which is a function of the world market. It would increase the profitability of mining the oil sands by reducing the cost of transportation. In the end there is no oil shortage, just a geo-political crisis that is temporarily causing a supply bottleneck.

Ugh......having daylight fall during the hours of the day that it is more useful...... Yes, I know we could just change the start and end times of things to follow the seasons. But moving the clocks is easier.
-
Foolish? I never said that. You are putting words into my mouth. I'm sure the Gods of Red Bull and Pay Per View will be fine. Until they aren't. Hey Evel Knievel died of natural causes in the end. The show must go on.

As is nearly everyone's. I'm fine with him taking personal risk. I'm not so sure about the two pilotless aircraft that will land somewhere. Of course his plan is sound, nothing unexpected ever goes wrong when "experts" are involved. They always think of everything. This appears to me as an example of every stunt needing to be even more impressive than the last one. Which inevitably leads to biting off more than can be chewed. I would not be surprised if this one either is abandoned or becomes the one we all remember as the last one.

And in San Diego you are far enough south that changing the clocks is only a nuisance. But for those of us in the middle it helps.
-
You knew Tom Noonan as well, didn't you? Your admiration and confidence will make zero difference in the end.
-
Unlike internet forum posters?
-
No. But I wish I did.
-
So the DZ can stay open till 10pm in the best part of the season where I live. Yet I don't have to wait till after rush hour for daylight at Christmas time.
-
Changing the clocks twice a year is simply a way to help us take advantage of summer and to cope with winter. The further from the Equator you live the more sense it makes. It isn't that hard.
-
It is merely another example of people try to have it both ways and not being willing to pay an price in inconvenience.

Canada is struggling to cope with a northward flow of illegal weapons at this time. We can understand your concern.
-
You are kidding right? What direction do you think weapons flow across US borders in?
-
As long as we life on a rotating planet revolving around a star giving us night and day we will live our lives by some sort of local time. We are still diurnal mammals.

Why do Americans wonder and debate this? Guns are machines designed to kill people. People are emotional and a mix of good and bad. If there are a lot of guns around people will use them to do exactly what they were made for more often than if there are fewer guns around. You have your rights and you have to pay for them. Sometimes with the lives of your children

Yup. The fact that people keep engaging is something I also don't understand. But apparently some find it amusing and who am I to judge?
