Yeah, '71 was a bad one. Took down freeways, took out buildings. I was 5 years old, in Burbank.... 94 was worse, imho, though. I do believe I'd rather have eq's than tornados. We're on borrowed time...last Dr. visit he said he'd be surprised if she made it through the month, and here it is the 27th. She's really not well. Ben, if your ficos are in the 700's, it doesn't matter how much credit you have. You should not be paying that for the equivalent of a 2nd mortgage - the reason you've split it in the first place is to avoid the PMI banks tend to charge. If I'm reading correctly, it's an 80% first, 15% home equity, with 5% down and closing out of pocket? Why did you go through a direct lender, and why were you not given a schedule "Z" (I think that's what it is), which is a good faith estimate upon approval of you ( not approval of the property?) If you were not given that, there may be some things you can do (which may not allow you to leave the contract, but may buy you some time to get other financing...). Any other contingencies left? Appraisal? Physical? Also, what stage are you in? Did you sign loan docs? Who's your realtor? Why are they not on top of this? PM me with details....there may be something we can do...that's a really high rate. (edit: I just re-read your original post - you've signed docs....did you get a good faith estimate within 3 days of your application? That will become very important....) I question all the time. It drives some folks nutz, but I do it anyway. I look at things, and ask a question. And if there are more questions, I go after them, too...why not? As to them understanding it was "evil" or not, I don't have the foggiest notion. I'm old, but I'm not that old! I have taken rough positions because of what I personally know as "right" or "good", and have caught some hell for them. I've lost friends because of that. But maintaining my own ability to look into my face in the mirror in the morning, and say "I treated others as I would be treated; I have done right by that heart thought". I have taken the position of strangers when I knew it would cost me friends...but who was doing "right" at the time? It wasn't my friends, unfortunately. It takes a great deal of personal conviction in "something" to stand by a decision which costs you friends and creates the potential for public humiliation. When you know that an action is correct, even though it sits on your heart and you understand that you will be vilified for it, and then you take the steps to maintain your personal integrity and conviction, you are betimes lambasted and hurt. No matter in the long run, despite how sad or how hurt you are, standing by your convictions and morality and integrity is far better than not. I would more rather ask the question of "why do people stand and do nothing when they know somethings happening that they can change"? Why did the Kitty Genevese murder happen? Why does a crowd gather at the scene of an accident, and yet no-one steps out of the safety and comfort of their car to help? Why do people not get involved? Those are the questions I ask.... As far as I can tell, commonly used Bibles have been translated several times from the original aramaic and hebrew texts...in the translation of it many times over, there are bound to be mistranslations, and translations which will serve the current ruling party and support them. One word, which King James had quite the discourse with Reginald Scot in ~circa: 1580 ~ details the difference between the original word in hebrew "chasaph", meaning "poisoner". At both the time Exodus was written as well as during King James' reign, there were political assassinations using poison, and only a godless man/woman would deliberately try to kill the leader of (pick the country).
