How many lives have been saved by AADs ?
peckerhead replied to cocheese's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I started jumping they would not let you have an altimeter until you had at least 25 jumps. The wisdom was not to fixate on the gadget and actually think! But, we did get a stopwatch and we learned to count, look at the ground and the horizon. I was taught to not trust an altimeter. A 10 second delay was a 10 second delay. Altitude awareness seems to be a lost art. Nowadays you just stare at the altimeter or wait for the "beep" -
I'm not sure what the purpose of this thread was, actually... it almost seems like the original poster was trying to discredit the achievement? Nah, I just thought it was funny, not really an achievement. Now maybe a jet pack that you could land ....That would be an acheivement. I jumped into a demo wearing a Batman costume once but I really don't consider that an acheivement either.

I agree. How about if you swim off of a waterfall and deploy a parachute? Is that a new catagory? Technically you did not "jump" from land.....

I don't want to throw a weenie in the warp-drive here but isn't skydiving supposed to be flying without engines? Technically he is not a skydiver anymore but an experimental aircraft that still needs a parachute to land in one piece. All he needs is some wheels....

Reports on Fox News that Nato is planning to attack Iran to wipe out their Nucular weapons program(supposedly one year or less away from a functional boom boom.) Who do you think will do the heavy lifting?

Bill Dause and Don Kellner have over 30,000 each but I have heard that Kellners are mostly hop and pops. I don't think Bill ever does a hop and pop so he has more FF time than anyone. The DZO in Sydney Australia has over 22,000. I met him last April when I was down there. Phil something, I can't remember his last name.

highest number of jumps ...w/o malfunction???
peckerhead replied to mattmais's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
In my experience line overs on squares were unheard of before pro packing became popular. Possible maybe, but extremely rare. I have been psycho packing the last 200 junps with no malfunctions. The previous 1200 jumps were flat packing with no malfunctions. I still think flat packing is neater and you get better openings. -
highest number of jumps ...w/o malfunction???
peckerhead replied to mattmais's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had 8 reserve rides my first 1000 jumps. I haven't had one since 1991 (almost 1400 jumps) -
Thanks, it was all upper case and the VD thing.....

This is one of the most common asked questions by wuffos. 20 pound bowling ball vs 20 pounds of feathers. Throw them both off the Empire State building and the bowling ball will win every time.

If so could you translate this: TODO OK VOLVERIA HACER NEGOCIOS CON VD This was feedback for a canopy I sold on Ebay to a dude in Spain. It was positive but it sounds angry to me.

USPA downsizing guidelines proposal
peckerhead replied to HydroGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does this assume all canopies are ZP? -
It's a two-way

If you hold someone down and make them take bong hits won't the bong water spill?

After 24 years my mom still asks: How many jumps do you have to make before you can quit? Bless her heart. The other funny one is: Q: Which one are you? A: I am filming this mom, the camera is on my head. I am not in the picture.

Would you mention that you are a skydiver?
peckerhead replied to Superman32's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
No, whuffos will never understand. Unless you are looking for a skydiving related job or you happen to hook up with the 1 in a million person who might find it admirable.... There is no advantage to sharing your quirky weekend pastime. -
My reserves are larger than my mains. My mains are z-p and the reserves are f-111. Makes sense to me.

Could I spank her instead? It's not very nice to slap a girl

I don't understand this. I have always considered the raven to be a docile, predictable , and easy to flare canopy. The two reserve rides I have had on ravens were soft, tippy-toe stand-ups. Maybe I just had better training

I worked at both Mt. Bachelor and Mt Hood. Bachelor has the best lift system and a lot of long cruisers but very little steeps and advanced terrain. It's a big mountain. Mt hood meadows is also a big hill with several high speed lifts and much more advanced terrain. Bachelor has better snow. Another fun hill is Mt Hood ski bowl, nice steeps on the upper bowl and lots of night skiing. Timberline, cooper, summit are basically just small beginer areas. Timberline has the best ski lodge in the country and summer skiing on the palmer glacier but in the winter the skiing is not much to talk about. I would stick to the bowl or meadows.

Interesting.....I have made over 800 jumps on a super raven as a main canopy and always had great landings.

PD RESERVE BOX MARKING SYSTEM & 30 LB. ANNUAL FABRIC PULL TEST
peckerhead replied to RIGGER's topic in Gear and Rigging
While we are on this topic..... Why is it the other canopy makers don't have check-off boxes or should/must pull tests? I have heard from many jumpers that they will not buy PD reserves because of this. It gives an implied shelf-life regardless of air-worthy-ness. I have also heard stories of bribes being offered to riggers to not "check" the box on PD reserves so the reserve will have not lost it's re-sale value. (less checks=more$) I am not condoning this, I always go by the book. If I pack a PD reserve I check the box, X if it has been jumped. But I do not have to do this if it is a Para-flite reserve or an older round reserve that is air-worthy. That is up to me. Again, I ALWAYS go by the manufacturers recommendations and follow the instructions. But, there are no check-off boxes on round reserves or any non-PD squares. HMMMM? -
Who cares? I am still trying to figure out why Tom Bombadil was not in The Fellowship of the ring
