I'm not sure cognitive dissonance works as an excuse for all smokers. I simply didnt care when I smoked. CD seems a lot more dramatic and is much more fun to induce and remove TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking. -
This comment is in no way an attempt to give credability to the statements above but.... Didnt it turn out that the original Gulf war fatality count was somewhat out of whack with the eventual reality? As far as hiding a bodycount? I agree that 9k seems excessive, but I can see a count quite easily hidden if you're only reporting to a parent the death of their son/daughter. From what I recall the low death toll was more to do with advances in medical science rather than a lack of the enemy trying. The number of previously life ending injuries vs life impacting injuries and their ratio isnt something I've seen discussed (or put into english: the number of amputees/severely injured returning rather than dying hasn't been quantified). It's more interesting than claiming 9000 phantom people have died, admit it. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

The Psychology of "I can handle it"

strange synchronicity, was just discussing this. Glad to see the loaded gun thing didnt work, had been thinking about it. It's more like russian roulette and having the opportunity to add more empty chambers or fill the ones that are there. My friend and I have similar jump numbers (in the low/mid 20s), same canopy/reserve except he's 50lbs heavier than I am. (he's jumping 1.1:1, I'm 0.87:1). At this point I consider falling out the door to be the acceptable risk part of the sport, once it gets really boring I'll consider adding some more 'excitement'. -

Ok, all joking aside, while digging through the fringe sites I did find some information that I think everyone should be aware of. The _List_ The above link is verifiable by doing extensive Google searches which will lead you to a lot of reputable sites that will cross reference with this one. This information needs to be disseminated as quickly as possible so that the truth can stay free! Remember, the truth is out there. And remember, if your name is on the list you can email them to get it removed. Thank god there's some sort of oversight and opt out plan. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

This is something I heard before the war started. Im not an economics expert by any means, but I do recall that there were discussions about this. The current recovery and the future of the US pretty much requires that everyone index to the dollar, right now we're playing a pretty good game, but that totally implodes if we lose our right as the index currency. Been a long time since TWA 800 has come up in conversation. From my less then perfect recollection: There were eyewitness reports of a shoulder fired rocket around the time. These were later discarded. The official report did not match the available data, several hundred aircraft pilots put together a website, whos address I dont recall but should be easy to find, that discounts much of the official 'most likely scenario'. Mostly it was information about blast radius and reconstruction from available data, including the evidence collected by the official report. I do recall some information about a breach that indicated an object entering the plane. I probably should go read up on it, but for once I dont care. The above is not saying there was a conspiracy theory, only that there seemed to be gaps in the official reconstruction that caused several hundred pilots to create a website to publicize that point. Plus it gives the conspiracy theorists some homework. Bush probably did it anyway. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

This is very much a case of my lack of knowledge leading to a larger discussion I think. My original question wasnt so much about the FJC but techniques in general. I spent the weekend talking to various people (coaches, instructors and TSO) at my dropzone, including Scott Miller (who's basic canopy course I was taking at the time). I understand a little more now that the FJC PLF is really just something to get you through the basics and that it's expected that you'll develop you're own PLFs as you progress. Having my background I guess I'm just a little further ahead on the subject. The idea of learning additional methods later seems somewhat logical considering the other special training thats covered (night and water), but I think difficult to standardize generally. High-Ranking Army Officer - Missile Hit Pentagon
AlexCrowley replied to rhino's topic in Speakers Corner
With regards to the official timeline of all the events? that's pretty accurate. On the subject of 'did a plane or a missile hit the pentagon' there is more than enough publicly available information to thoroughly debunk any 'it was a missile' conspiracy theories. This is the same as there being enough publicly available information to debunk any theories that talk about 'weaponized' remote aircraft by using the availabe videofootage as evidence (the phantom missile housings on the bottom of one of the planes). Yes, there are holes in the official story, but they've been plugged by conspiracy theories that fly in the face of science and publicly available expert witness testimony. I could list off things that dont make sense about the official story but quite frankly i'm too bored of supporting conspiracy theory idiots TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking. -

High-Ranking Army Officer - Missile Hit Pentagon

This particular 9/11 story pisses me off. It's based on one cropped shot of the crash site which shows very little identifiable wreckage. When the uncropped image is shown you can see part of the fuselage and debris all over the grass. Sickens me that some people are stupid enough to believe this shit without investigating it themselves. What sickens me more is that the people who believe this shit (having been one myself in the not so distant past) are the same people who call the vast majority of the public 'sheeple' and spend hours analyzing and researching flawed data since the mainstream information is 'contaminated' and of no discernable value. ACLU Defends Pregnant Woman Using Drugs
AlexCrowley replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Given the current situation I think that's part of it. This is the third case I can recall off the top of my head over the last 8 years dealing with this specific issue from a legal perspective. As a personal aside, I find the concept of overturning Roe Vs Wade barbaric and insane, but then I'm not from the US. The myths and ignorant hype around the subject, once looked at objectively, show a dangerous trend towards adopting a religious agenda no different than any Islamic country. As an outsider I thought the abortion issue as a platform was a joke, or at most a minor issue to distinguish between two closely matched candidates, it was a sobering day when I realized that the US government was actively trying to legislate against womens rights to make decisions about their own bodies. The fact that Roe Vs Wade is continually considered to be hanging in the balance always shocks me. The fact that a lawmaker is grilled on his position regarding the Roe Vs Wade ruling always makes me shake my head in disbelief. The fact that a modern supposedly secular government could be shifting towards a time when the decision may be repealed depresses me no end. ACLU Defends Pregnant Woman Using Drugs
AlexCrowley replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Just in reply to the whole thread. The ACLU selects cases based on the point of law that requires defending, not the defendant. This means that they tend to pick some pretty Fd up cases, that sometimes seem crazy to defend. (In the Peterson case it's CA state law that allows for a double murder charge if the pregnant mother is murdered.) As unpopular as it may be there are laws in this country, just because a situation seems immoral or wrong does not make it against the law. The system is designed so you can create new laws. If you think a junkie pregnant woman should be charged then push your local lawmakers. But you can't create new laws out of wholecloth just because you think this situation is bad. This is especially true in the US where everything is defined by precedent. As such, to let this ruling stand would be a very bad thing. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking. -
