  1. At what point in a thread does the question: "Are you really that fucking stupid?" become considered a rational response rather than a personal attack? Just wondering, figured it may come in handy some time soon. Thanks TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  2. These are all great bits of advice, thanks Bill! Now, where can I get one of them transparent suits? I'm sure it would be a great way to break the ice and meet new people at my DZ. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  3. Thank you to everyone who's contributed to this thread so far, I really appreciate your collective inputs. It's a great deal of fun to be this side of the learning curve again, especially learning something as life changing as skydiving. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  4. Hi Jen, I had a busy weekend so I went up on Friday, packed my student rig (grrr) and then did the check dive with Muppet, then went home again to work I'm trying to shift my schedule enough for next weekend that a) I get some time to see people, b) I get to watch people drink the beer that I'll be bringing. I'd love to jump with you! If everything goes well this week I should finally have my Infinity ready to jump! (crossing fingers and hoping it got to Brian in time). TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  5. Uh huh, thanks for that. I obsess over information enough thanks. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  6. Would swooping be more exciting if you had to duck a clothesline? It would look great on video if you didnt duck in time. The fact that I want to get enough jumps so i can start videoing some of this stuff safely is pretty absurd. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  7. Scott's class was great. I have a list of things to do under canopy now rather than just sorta hanging out in the sky :) I guess I'll just be jumping a lot TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  8. Thank airtwardo, the whole experience is 'fun'. Sorry to have given the impression I'm in a rush, I'm not. I am hoping to be a safe skydiver who has enough knowledge (and builds enough experience) to try the things I am interested in doing, which are out of my reach until I have a significant number of jumps. In the meantime I'll approach this exactly the same way I approach everything else in my life, which is to be the best that I can. Mostly I'd like to form a plan so I dont end up doing jumps where I just 'sorta fall' for 55 seconds. I can still have a lot of fun while doing something constructive in the air:) I am still a little confused about what the big deal about jumping with other people is all about - but I think thats more indicative of my habitually being alone, doing my coached jumps was fun. I probably just need to get a little more time in at the DZ and form a few new friendships. Well, maybe I'll make some more when I deliver the owed beer next weekend. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  9. Friday I finally got myself off student status and am the proud owner of my A license. I have 27 jumps and have a thimble full of knowledge enough to keep me alive in reasonable jump conditions. Whats next? Hopefully you're sat there with several hundred/thousand jumps, wanting to bestow your wisdom on an impressionable novice. What areas do you suggest he (or for arguments sake, she) concentrate on first? From my side of the experience fence it would seem that canopy piloting would be the most important stuff to nail down in the short term, after all its the thing you're always going to do (hopefully) and the one that takes up the most time and skill (in a sense that anyone can fall out of a plane, no one has discovered a 'law of canopy piloting' - at least they never taught it at my school if they did). But what do I know? I know barely enough to not die if things go as planned. Yes, I'm sort of rambling along here. So, wily veterans of the sky, I bow to your knowledge and experience. If you could restart at jump 27 - what would you do? what do you wish you'd known? who would you have bugged incessantly for information? does beer really help your arch? Thanks in advance. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  10. source it properly - NOT from that bullshit heavy site you used. Navy Ships with jamming abilities? Holy crap!! They have 'blow shit up with weapons' abilities too!! should we panic now? WTF is this from your story: "From "The Manchurian Printer," Simson L. Garfinkel [The Boston Sunday Globe, March 5, 1995, Focus Section, Page 83]:"..........................Oh it continues: "Not surprisingly, the unclassified version of the Pentagon's report barely mentions the offensive possibilities of Information Warfare---capabilities that the Pentagon currently has under development. Nevertheless, these capabilities are alluded to in several of the diagrams, which show a keen interest by the military in OOTW---Operations Other Than War. "They have things like information influence, perception management, and PSYOPS---psychological operations," says Wayne Madsen, a lead scientist at the Computer Sciences Corporation in northern Virginia, who has studied the summer study report. 'Basically, I think that what they are talking about is having the capability to censor and put out propaganda on the networks. That includes global news networks like CNN and BBC, your information services, like CompuServe and Prodigy,' and communications satellite networks. 'When they talk about 'technology blockade,' they want to be able to block data going into or out of a certain region of the world that they may be attacking."' ALERT: WMR readers should be aware that web sites like Democratic Underground are "locking" information on the radio jamming in Louisiana and the corruption involved in FEMA hurricane disaster preparedness (IEM Team contract). Readers should also be aware that the Pentagon's technology blockade strategy extends to the Internet. Web sites like Democratic Underground and Daily Kos have a lot of explaining to do when they censor critical information during a national emergency. These web sites, along with Fox News and the other news sources with overt and covert political agendas, are not serving in the public interest and should be avoided as sources for important information. For example, some Daily Kos posters are questioning whether FEMA deliberately cut Jefferson Parish's emergency telephone lines. That is because many of those involved with Daily Kos and Democratic Underground are squishy Democrats with a pretty obvious agenda. - WM" Uh huh, its an internet conspiracy Your quote in context: "MR. RUSSERT: Hold on. Hold on, sir. Shouldn't the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of New Orleans bear some responsibility? Couldn't they have been much more forceful, much more effective and much more organized in evacuating the area? MR. BROUSSARD: Sir, they were told like me, every single day, "The cavalry's coming," on a federal level, "The cavalry's coming, the cavalry's coming, the cavalry's coming." I have just begun to hear the hoofs of the cavalry. The cavalry's still not here yet, but I've begun to hear the hoofs, and we're almost a week out. Let me give you just three quick examples. We had Wal-Mart deliver three trucks of water, trailer trucks of water. FEMA turned them back. They said we didn't need them. This was a week ago. FEMA--we had 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel on a Coast Guard vessel docked in my parish. The Coast Guard said, "Come get the fuel right away." When we got there with our trucks, they got a word. "FEMA says don't give you the fuel." Yesterday--yesterday--FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency communication lines. They cut them without notice. Our sheriff, Harry Lee, goes back in, he reconnects the line. He posts armed guards on our line and says, "No one is getting near these lines." Sheriff Harry Lee said that if America--American government would have responded like Wal-Mart has responded, we wouldn't be in this crisis. But I want to thank Governor Blanco for all she's done and all her leadership. She sent in the National Guard. I just repaired a breach on my side of the 17th Street canal that the secretary didn't foresee, a 300-foot breach. I just completed it yesterday with convoys of National Guard and local parish workers and levee board people. It took us two and a half days working 24/7. I just closed it. " btw, the original link to this article: Wayne Madsen Report On the subject of Jamming, this site makes a ton of unsubstantiated claims. Including the fact that it's not solar activity thats jamming the stuff but a radio station in the caribbean?! Ok, fair enough, why does the ARRL not talk in length about this, but only about traffic numbers causing jams? (ARRL is the national membership association for Amateur Radio operators.). Why, if there's jamming, is there a request to keep the emergency frequencies clear? click I went to this site specifically to find stories about jamming, since you'd assume that radio operators would be the first to notice it. So, yes it's bullshit. 1. The original site source (wayne madsen) is full of unsourced bullshit stories, that come in from anonymous sources to a hotmail account. 2. "official" explanations are ignored. 3. Quotes are pasted without context and without followup - there was nothing orwellian about the original statement, only that it was an example of FEMAs incompetance. 4. Nothing corroborating in either the worlds press, or hobby groups that would be directly effected by such a blackout. Is that enough research? So yes, bullshit. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  11. I thought this was interesting: In a story I just pulled out of my ass there's a website in some other country that just reported that various members of DZ.com are drinking babies blood in an attempt to swoop better. While the US government have sworn no knowledge it is obvious that they are involved, because U S Army members have delivered babies on board flying helicopters!!, obviously to provide food to their airborne paratroopers to snack on before a jump! Statistically there's a 38% chance of a baby having an opiate in their blood stream, yet a 84% chance that they will not. This obviously proves that 98% of babies are currently in danger from this horrific hobby. President Bush was unavailable for comment, but its obvious from his beady little eyes that he's guilty as hell. The bastard. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  12. Not interesting, once again bullshit. Rhino, you obviously have a web browser, what is stopping you from fact checking through google? Dont you think FEMA jamming communications might get a little attention considering the media (I know, I know, they're tainted and in the pocket of the government) have been highly critical of the government's response (I know, I know, a smokescreen to make us no longer suspect them). TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  13. Interesting comment, but one thing I noticed with a move across the pond is the difference in what is an acceptable term for different races. What is acceptable in one country is an insult in another, and vice versa. This comment is about this statement only, not as a defense of anyone elses comments or prejudices. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  14. Heh powerline, next we'll have people arguing with quotes from moveon.org. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  15. Yeah, I spend a lot of time around both business folk and family and dont consider either environment to be obnoxious. I do know some people who *think* they're wealthy and brag obnoxiously about status, but the ones with real money are ones you rarely ever hear talk about it because they're comfortable with their success. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  16. I disagree with you. Success isn't frowned upon but boasting about how successful you are is frowned upon. I'm glad your experiences have been different, Im originally from an area that, at the time, was being overloaded with A & R guys from record companies signing people left and right. In my experience saying 'I got a record deal' == Boasting. UKians are apathetic and quite happy with the status quo, which is why I left. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  17. _____________________________________ Wasn't CREEPS shown in a 'fake' ad in Skydiving Magazine, awhile back? edit to add: Seems like the seller has a little nerve, using a rip-off name of Pier Ltd. Chuck The Skydivers Survival Manual, Pier Ltd has those ads in them, plus all the others (cypres burial kit, inflatable swoop trainer etc). TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  18. thanks Bill, I was enjoying the confusion TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  19. Harsh words from the man talking about 'bed wetting liberals' on another thread. God I love SC! TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  20. The Kia does those SUVs that can't be insured in some states because of their safety track record. Or did someone tell me an untruth? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  21. and die. Your call, but the statistics show clearly that you're more likely to survive a potentially fatal crash in normal automobile because they are designed to be safe with various impact and crumple zones. SUVs and Pickups are not subject to the same standards (do to a nice loophole) and therefor have demonstrably lower safety levels. A side impact in an automobile may throw you off the road but the chances of you losing your legs or your life are dramatically smaller than if you were in an truck. There have been many reports and articles on the illusion of security and safety in SUVs. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  22. Your only problem is that an SUV is significantly more unsafe and you are more likely to have a fatal accident in a side impact, a far more common occurrence. Sure, enjoy your legroom but please, the 'safer in an SUV' fable is bullshit. And yes, I drive a pickup because of where I live - but I've never been under any illusions about it being like a big armored car. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  23. American needs your help. I'm posting this in the hope that it might change some minds. The last few years have been planned. In recent days and weeks you'll see more and more members of this administration stepping forward to tell the truth, and finally you will understand the great damage that the left has caused. The Iraq invasion, was in fact, planned to seize oil. The alien intelligence group sequestered in Area 51 used their "Time Viewing Device" to forsee the tragedy that Katrina would cause. President Bush, being a decisive man of action instinctively understood that the only way to ensure stability of our gasoline was to take Iraq. Of course, not being able to reveal the presence of our little grey friends there had to be other excuses used to lead this great country into a war for which there seemed, at the time, no justification. Now, because of the reaction and opposition of the left, what would have been a stunning victory for every SUV in america has become a quagmire, a $4 per gallon and damn the missile expense quagmire from which there is no escape. So you lefty hippy communist socialist bastards: YOu know the truth now. It all makes sense, all that banging your head against the wall trying to understand how anyone could possibly be quite that stupid makes total sense now! I expect you all to apologise profusely and support your president in this time of oil companies and future traders cashing in on a tragedy. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  24. Yeah thats pretty common. In the UK it's so passe to try and achieve anything, success is frowned upon as being so uncouth. In the US you get to the level you work to. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  25. So you're agreeing that they're just like HMOs? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
