Only DNA ruled out Peterson. The FBI seems very confident that hey have enough Cooper DNA to rule out suspects. If they could confirm Nepal they wouldn't have come back to Peterson and taken a DNA sample. In 71, one could live in Nepal, fly into Canada, sneak in and out of the US leaving no US immigration or customs records. The border was very porous. In his epic novel, the hero ends the story with a nihilistic solo jump into enemy territory. There is bourbon and even a walk along the Columbia River in freezing weather in inadequate clothing including "loafers". The Columbia River passage intrigues me. It doesn't really fit in a story about Viet Nam yet the author felt compelled to include it. Another parallel to Norjack is the hero's worry about terrain height on his final jump. It could all be a coincidence. If you stare at clouds hard enough you can see faces. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Blevins wrote Sailshaw isn't Bob Knoss. Sailshaw is a retired Boeing engineer who worked on the 737 airstair. The yearbook photo shows Sheridan Peterson as a teacher not a student. He's the right age to be a credible DBC. His qualifications are amazing: Ex Marine Smoke Jumper w Pacific NW experience Skydiver Founded Boeing Skydive Club Worked in Tech Documents at Boeing Made night jumps Had HUGE grudge against US Govt Was in Viet Nam and saw atrocities Jumped in Nam (as a civilian) Resembles FBI Cooper drawing Sailshaw knew Peterson. He says Peterson pumped him for info on the 727 stairs ten years before Norjack. On the other hand Peterson seems to be a principled guy who abhors violence. The bomb threat seems out of character. His alibi given to the FBI is that he was living in a mud hut in Nepal when Norjack occurred. Peterson has made a lot of claims about his skydiving exploits. I have a good network of old jumpers and verified a number of them. I've not caught Peterson in a single lie. I was pretty sure his claim about jumping home made bat wings and getting kicked out of the USPA was BS, but it was verified. He has an adventurous spirit and thinks out of the box about jumping. Was he DBC? I don't know, but man was he well qualified. Snowmman found him. We were independently making similar searches for a smoke jumper/skydiver who worked at Boeing during the 727 design and manufacture era. Snow's superior search skills trumped mine. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Just learn to deal with it. There is probably some "skydiver reason" it's set up that way. Maybe it is a safeguard against accidental posts. Kinda like preventing accidental canopy deployments or cutaways. Modern skydiving gear has the equivalent of the main ripcord handle located behind your back where you can't see it and have to feel for it as you pass through the pull zone into the kill zone. I liked the old big silver main ripcord handle right in front of you and easily found. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Jo, You've made your point many many times. We understand that you believe that JT deliberately misled you regarding the area and its topography. Repeating your claim serves no useful purpose. The point has been made. Let it rest. How about that blockbuster evidence you were going to disclose? The Tease Police want to know. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. http://www.airliners.net/photo/0077849/L/ What's funny is the tarp immediately taped over the airline logo. I can tell from the colors it was Eastern Airlines. Welcome Hominid. Can we have some more airstair dialog? In the end, after looking at all the modes for lowering the 727-1** stairs, do you think that the pressure bump was coincident with Cooper's departure? I could have guessed that Farflung was not a tofu and organic granola kind of guy, but I wouldnt be surprised if he attends a few Yoga classes to exercise his eyes. I do have a question about the bacon: Farflung, do you kill the wild boars with a gun or your bare hands? I can't see Farflung eating any large mammal he didn't conquer in hand to hand combat. If your breakfast can't kill you then you arent a real man. Oops, that applies to cantalope melons from the Jensen farm, so I'll have to revise the wording. I doubt if the Ariel Tavern serves vegan fare or anything organic, so ignore the poetry Farflung and stop on by. I walked though a local farmers mkt last weekend looking at $2 apples and $3 pomegranates and saw some guy hawking organic beef for 3x Safeway prices. The marketing was all about humane treatment of the cattle before bovine capital punishment was lovingly administered. From the gushy literature and photos you'd almost think the beef cattle had experienced everything good that cow life had to offer and were spiritually prepared for and even welcoming a gentle and humane transition into the next dimension of existence aka death. Seemed kinda hypocritical, but who am I to judge such things? Keep them doggies rolling, Rawhide. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Belvins wrote: Poetry??? Darn, that just about kills any chance of Farflung showing up. He only goes to hunky venues and events. I'd like to buy him some beer and ask him to autograph a few of his posters. If he shows at Ariel it will be incognito. He'd be unlikely to lend his name to a DBC poetry recital. Maybe if we called it a poetry slam...? Robert, I thought you werre married to Gayla. Not that it matters to skydivers... Don't give up on marriage Robert. Its like skydiving. You don't give up when the first canopy malfunctions. Furthering the aero analogies, look at it as a chance to upgrade. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Remember a few years ago there were ads for a deployment decelerator device called the SOFTER? I think this is the patent. Did it work? Was it ever produced or tested? http://www.google.com/patents?id=6fHXAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA6&dq=tommy+giles+parachute+softer&hl=en&ei=06ODTu7jCe7PiAKC-MmRCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2&ved=0CDIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q&f=false 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Blevins wrote about Farflung Don't disrespect the Hood Robert. Farflung's talents find their best and highest use here. Don't put ideas in his head about books and such. The first thing his agent would advise is to distance himself from our community and deny he ever lived here. Have you seen the FBI quote about their capture of skyjack fugitive George Wright? That was a cold cold case (41 years old) but someone tipped the feds. The same thing could happen with Cooper. Some new clue could solve an old case. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Yeah, they popped the circuit breaker and deployed something forbidden trying to pick up a few extra knots. Something failed and they went out of control. They managed to recover thank God. Airline pilots have a rich history of doing these foolish things. A couple of DC 4s crashed out of control without explanation. Then one recovered before impact and after intense interrogation a flight deck officer admitted engaging the gust locks as "an experiment" during flight. No further repeats occurred after the cause was publicized. Faced with hell from the FAA and their employer, the 727 crew pulled a "Rosemary Woods". Who among us remembers what that means? The 727 crew denied any wrongdoing, but it's pretty obvious to me what happened. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Some news reports say that it was an emergency landing after an in flight failure of one engine. Flare flare flare. It's taught to every newbie parachutist to arrest the sink rate right before touchdown. Did the guys up front in that DC 9 forget? Regarding the Georger Blevins dispute/dialog on pre-anything... You can arm thrust reversers to deploy immediately when the gear struts are compressed. Is that a PRE-deployment? Here is an interesting 727 acro story: http://fromtheflightdeck.com/Reviews/727/TWA727/ 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

In Mexico. You gotta say that Douglas knew how to engineer robust landing gear. Wonder how many Gs it took to break the engine pylons? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Johnny, Have you looked at the found ripcord photo? It's not from a Navy NB 6 or NB 8 or any sport rig that existed in 71. No pins. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Jo wrote Jo, Since Cooper has not been identified, nobody can prove that Duane was not Cooper, but you miss the point. Nobody can prove that I wasn't Cooper. The FBI wants to know who Cooper was rather than who he wasn't. The FBI looks for probative incriminating physical evidence not exculpatory evidence. Once they see that there is no unambiguous evidence linking Duane to Norjack then they move on, as they should. They aren't going to look for proof that Duane wasn't Cooper. You've never been able to produce any unambiguous physical evidence tieing Duane to Cooper. It's all lost or discarded stuff, memories, incredible leaps of logic and faith and so forth. Where is the blockbuster evidence you promised Jo? Did it go poof? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I think Farlung lives in or once lived in the SF Bay Area. he knows the hood and its cultural nuances. He isnt interested in socializing with anyone here except perhaps Ms. Vicki. Post a link to financial website Blevins. I have never seen genuine Farflung humor anywhere but here. He did mention once that he was taking the bar exam, so he might be a lawyer relocating or someone who is a recent law grad (or will soon be) and is going to be taking his first bar exam. I sure enjoy his posts which can range from detailed tech analysis to dry high IQ humor, and I love his graphics. How fortunate we are that the Cooper Vortex has sucked him in with the rest of us misfits. I heard Geoff's interview on NPR this last weekend. Blacklisting skydivers [was: hard impact at nationals]

Bill has had a California version of that list in his head for years. If you screwed up real bad at Pope Valley decades ago, he'd likely remember if you tried to jump at Lodi next weekend. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968. -

Wow Mark, that's an eye opener. Still, after two cutaways in my past you won't find me ever sport jumping a single canopy. I like to have a plan B. I wonder if the FAA is aware of this loophole? I won't tell them. I wonder if it could be used to beat a violation for jumping with an out of date reserve? If it isn't required to have a reserve could they tag you for one that was out of date? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Probably true. Back in your Dad's day I bet a DC 3 would have dropped 25 DB Coopers into the Ariel Tavern. Any excuse for a demo. When I started jumping in the late 60s low pull contests really took place. Guys routinely jumped after having a few beers at lunch. AADs were for students and sissies. A whorehouse in NV sponsored a drop in boogie with unique prizes for accuracy. The Paracommander ruled the skies and many thought canopy design had finally peaked. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
