Blevins wrote Tha Amboy chute couldn't have been jumped in 1945. Data panel shows it was made in 1946. It is not in pristine condition. Snow(?) had a photo that showed it in poor condition, rips, shreds, etc. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I would not want an outboard pull setup on an emergency bailout rig, too likely to snag on something as you are trying to exit. The bailout rigs I saw had RH or LH inboard ripcord handle mount configurations. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

If 34 ft is true, that's an odd size, perhaps a cargo chute. The mil surplus canopies I am familiar with that were used in jumping are: 24 ft round ripstop Army paratrooper reserve 24 ft round twill old Army paratrooper reserve 26 ft conical ripstop Navy Conical, in NB6 28 ft round ripstop C9 crew rigs, ejection seats, etc 35 ft round ripstop T10 Army paratrooper use I don't recall any 34 ft mil person carrying canopies. Riggers and old jumpers chime in. Ever hear of a military 34 ft canopy used in emergency rigs? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

And one more thing Bruce, profuse thanks for doing what few of us do: feet on the street investigation. You are really helping to sort out the chute mysteries. Did you talk with Cossey about the Amboy canopy? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Bruce wrote Wow, everybody is being warm, collegial, conciliatory. Did someone spike the Kool Aid with ecstatcy? I admire your post Bruce. You and Snow are setting great examples of how to act when you get something wrong and impune another because of it. I hope I can be as good when my turn comes. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Snow writes: smokin99 said the file was on gray's book home page. I said no. I was wrong. I had said it wasn't since no page on his web site linked to anything that had the file. I just discovered I was wrong. It's there, just not linked to by any page. I was talking to 377, explaining how the world works, sun revolves around the planets, etc and I discovered that Gray has files where he doesn't know he has files. And where I don't know he has files. I will not call Gray stupid, because I am reformed, and everyone knows Gray is a good guy. So Gray is publishing the file he tried to hide before when he added a password to the other site. here it is. http://huntfordbcooper.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DOCU_parachutes.pdf 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Hayden was a civilian acro pilot. Those types rarely know the fine details of their parachute gear. Today they make square and round emergency chutes for civilian use. An acro pilot would know if he had a square or round but that's about as deep as they normally dig. Ownership isn't so important but truthfulness is. I don't think there is any chance that the military rig had a nearly impossibly hard pull. No rigger would configure an emergency rig that way for a customer. The hard pull story pushes an agenda: Cooper never deployed and went in at terminal velocity. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I don't think Sheridan would know anything about these two "back chutes" as they were not skydiving rigs. Skydivers, even instructors, have little interest in pilot bailout rigs. Still, if Sheridan was Cooper, he'd know that between the 2 main rigs on the plane the military bailout rig was by far the better choice as it very likely had a C9 high speed canopy in it. Remember Coopers aircraft flight configuration demands had two goals, low and slow. Low to avoid hypoxia and loss of consciousness and slow to get a reasonably stable exit and safe chute deployment. Skydivers knew that most sport and non military emergency canopies were placarded for deployment at speeds below 150 mph. A 727 would likely be flying a bit faster. Why not take the stronger chute? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Any chance there might have been more than 4 chutes? I really don't think so but I am trying to find some explanation for the apparent multiple ownership claims on the two main chute rigs. I'd be really pissed if my rigger claimed he owned my rigs. I wonder what's up with Cossey? Why does he do what he does in misleading people about the chutes? Snow, Gray and Bruce have opened up a new area of inquiry. I took it for granted that one rig was a Pioneer sport rig containing a Paracommander main and having D rings for attaching a chest reserve. Now we believe that neither main rig was a sport rig and neither had D rings. Cooper definitely made the right choice picking the military bailout rig with a rugged C9 high speed canopy, but was it a reasoned choice or a coin flip? I think it was a reasoned choice. I also think he knew he could jump a 727. He reportedly asked the ticket agent to confirm that aircraft was a 727. Sure, he could have been hoping he could jump from one, but I think he knew he could. He reportedly asked for 15 degrees of flaps, gear down and other airplane savvy flight configurations that would keep the crew from going above a safe exit speed or altitude. It all suggests someone who was aviation savvy and possibly parachute savvy. If we could only get Snow back we could really get up some steam here. Would I let Bob Knoss and Jamie Cooper back too? Yeah, I would, but on a short leash. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I assume you mean first 8 way or larger. Mine was around 75 jumps. It was done out of a DC 3 at Elsinore. Got my SCR. I didn't have the skills but 12 hotshot Elsinore RW guys made me look good. When I showed up at my home DZ with an SCR patch I was grilled hard. The local skygods were certain that I had stolen it or acquired it through fraud. They had jumped with me and correctly concluded that there was no way in hell that I could have carried my weight in a 13 way. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. I also wish to see Georger back. He doesn't deserve a permaban and I think that's what Q decided to do. Alternative forums really aren't the answer. Dropzone is Coca Cola. It's the top brand. It pulls customers far more strongly than RC Cola. Please reevaluate permabans Quade. Serial timeouts obviously take more of your time but they are sure better in the eyes of most forum users. Let's say someone is a valuable contributor of unique information but a serial violator of the rules. Should we lose them permanently? I think that's too severe a punishment and it causes the forum content to take a downtick in quality. Sure, I can proxy Snow, but his participation in exhile is a a fraction of what it was when he was a direct forum participant. Not every permabanned person will have a willing proxy. Bob Knoss and Jamie Cooper are examples of that. I wish you'd try a different approach. The rule breaking offenses committed by Snow and Georger are far outweighed by the value of their contributions. Please let us have them back. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Jerry, Snow does the research he wants to do. I don't know if that includes Melvin Wilson, but I'll pass on the suggestion. To me Melvin is certainly a person of interest, but I can't say he is the only person who can't be ruled out. His disposal of the counterfeit plates in a river is interesting. It proves nothing about a link to Norjack but it shows he was a guy who thought about rivers as a place to dump incriminating stuff that was no longer useful to him. If Cooper went in why hasnt a body, rig or canopy been found by now? Intact nylon aircrew canopies from WW2 have been recovered from submerged crashed aircraft over half a century later. Rivers. lakes and oceans hide their secrets, but not forever. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Jo wrote Now is never the time with Jo. A couple of weeks turns into a couple of months turns into never. Big promises. Kinda like a Cooper Infomercial. "but wait, there's more!" Duly noted by the Tease Police. But no, no arrests are likely. It's like Duane and the Kool Aid thefts. Just an old harmless eccentric. Let it go. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Nope, not a chance in hell, but he might refrain from insulting Quade. Honor and respect is too high a price for readmission. I don't honor and respect Quade, but I behave decently. One position that Quade took that I certainly do respect, is his standing up to the horde of skydivers that want the DB Cooper forum gone. He gains no points from most skydivers for letting us continue, believe me. I don't think Quade requires bows and scrapes, just good behavior on the forum. That should be enough. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

I know Quade has his reasons, he was insulted and Snow was fighting with others and ignored Q's warnings. I never claimed Snow was a saint. He isn't. I am just asking Quade to give Snow a chance to be back on the forum. He has served a pretty long sentence already. He'd contribute more if he were on the forum rather than having to do everything by proxy. I don't think anybody here opposes his reentry to the forum. If so speak up. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Wonder why they had military freefall parachutists aboard fully outfitted for jumping? Was it to evaluate the conditions on the stairs? Snow's FBI flight test pic does show a jumper on the stairs. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

Snow straightens me out all the time, and without scolding me. I thought Braden had done SOG night jumps in Nam and Snowmman reminded me that there is scant evidence of that although Braden did lots of risky stuff on missions. He has now reminded me that the FBI sled did have a chute which can be seen in some of the test photos. The man has a steel trap memory. Mine is more like mesh (not acid mesh, an inside joke to old riggers). He tirelessly researches things and shares the results openly. No book or movie agenda. Doesnt seek publicity. So he insulted Q and dusted it up with a few others. Thats's bad behavior but it doesnt deserve a lifetime ban. There shoudnt be any lifetime bans in my opinion. You can always give serial timeouts. How about letting him have another chance Quade? Are you worried that mercy will undermine your authority? Nobody here would think less of you if you gave Snow a trial re-entry. Seriously. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
