Does anyone recall the Old Testament and how it was used to control the masses well before the Gnostics of the New Testament used oral tradition to tell the stories of Jesus? Why does this conversation begin at the New Testament. If history serves us well, and I unfortunately believe it does, why wouldn't those who had been persecuted for so many years some up with something to validate their rights? With regards to the New Testament, I should have said, "rewritten and bastardized by the powerful forces of the early church", Constantine being one of them in the 2nd Century. The beautiful beginnings of the Catholic Church. The perfected King James Bible, wasn't that the 1600's. The first stories of the life of Jesus were not written, they were oral tradition, yes, told in secret with the earliest written in the late part of the 1st century. And yes, these storytellers were persecuted like anyone who seeks to change the long standing statue quo. I do not challenge the stories of a cool dude, who gave these people a voice. But I BELIEVE THEY gave him magical qualities in order to compete with the Old Testament. Hell, magic worked for Moses. I am not trying to convince anyone, nor sway anyone to my beliefs. I do not hang out with a bunch of Atheists on a weekly basis in order to gain validation for my beliefs. They were formed purely on my own after a long journey through life and "soul searching". I do not accept the way things are in the world and justifying the suffering of many by referring a book, "oh see, the armies of the East are marching, just like in the Book". "Ohhhh ohhhhh the End Times are coming soon." If we all believed this way, yes, they would be coming soon; have you ever heard of a 'self-fulfilling prophesy?" Don't pray for me, pray for those who have no food, water, basic rights, basic dignity that ALL deserve. Or better yet, do something about it "prayer without action, is MEANINGLESS". I would rather be in action to make my world a better place for my son and the millions that had no choice of where they were born. I would rather work for HUMANITY, then to sit back and accept it because god said it would be so. Remember Jesus, he said "heal yourselves" We have the power to change anything. It takes a powerful mind to imagine it and then to create it! Peace and Love, Kumbaya........ ~~We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. One's disbelief in something has no effect on its reality. Either it is real or it is not regardless of what one believes. You may not believe what the Bible says, however, either you or God is lying in this regard and the Bible says that God cannot lie. It would be against his very nature. So where does that leave us? Where shall I begin..? One's 'belief' in something has no effect on its reality either. As sure as Christians are that there is a god, I am sure there is not. it is not that Atheists do not believe, or do not have a belief system, I believe man wrote the bible in order to control the masses. I also believe man needs to believe in something other than life and death..... otherwise it would make no sense....or would it. I believe in evolution. Did we come from apes? I don't know, and I really don't care, but I do know that natural selection selects for the fittest traits for the environment. The Bible, written and interpreted by men, men who lie all the time, and have shown time and time again that they will lie in order to control the masses. And, personally, if I were to choose a god to believe in, it would not be the jealous god of the bible. I would not have a beer with him, I would not friend him on facebook, sounds like a bully to me. The one who loves yet threatens with hell-fire-and-brimstone. The one who has an exclusive club. One that excludes, good, honest, loving people -out of jealousy. The one that give you a place in his party just for believing, regardless of actions (how convenient); you know, Jeffery Dahmer was 'saved', whew, thank god. I had a friend come to me "worried" about my spirituality and salvation, I said "why, I'm not". I don't even think about it. I am worried about those people who are dying of starvation, genocide and war. Worry about them; I'm fine. My 5 year-old put it beautifully when he asked me about god, he said, "he's like Santa Clause" I said, "exactly". You see, I respect my friends enough to NOT tell my son that I believe they are wrong about god, nor do I try to indoctrinate their children towards my beliefs. Respectfully, I tell him that god is what some people believe, others believe differently. So, it is not that we don't believe, it is that we believe differently.

Shit, forgive me; I forgot. Because a group of people who 'won the war' live in other places decide what is going to happen with your home makes it OK..... No, the 'suffering' is caused because the powers that be have marginalized a population to the point where they now have no homes. I'd be pissed off too. I do not support any type of attacks against a population, whether it be suicide bombers or Ariel Sharon and his orchestration of the Shatilla massacres in 1982. Blood is blood and all parents only want to see their children grow up with dignity. Some never see their children grow up.

So, because the Israelites were driven out by the Romans awhile back, Palestinians suffer for it? Is a homeland really a homeland when you stand on your dusty arid land, peering through a fence at swimming pools and garden. Because you are forbidden to extract the water from below? Is it really a homeland when it is sectioned off into little pieces and you must pass through checkpoints to go "across town", through the new settlements, in order to visit your mother? I guess it must be, because God forbid, you try to argue with 'God's Chosen'. Don, give it up, you can't win........What do I know? I am an atheist. *~"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. It has been talked about for years. I felt the need to finally do SOMETHING, so I started it just last night. 90 members and growing. Eventually a real page will come out of this I hope, but this is a great way to compile all the photos and videos for it. I hope this is the impetus. I personally do not like the unorganized Facebook Pages, everything just moves down... Because we are not 'saved'. Haven't gotten on our knees and accepted Jesus Christ as our lord and savior. We won't "see Gods beautiful light". Fear a god of mercy, love, compassion? Fear hellfire and brimstone? From this same merciful god? Fear...fear....fear...... If I don't believe in heaven and hell, I guess I have nothing to fear. Peace, Jeanie Edited to add: How is it holier than thou to admit I am evil and in need of help?? I should clarify, I do have fear, fear is good, if we don't let it control us, it keeps us alive, but I do not fear hellfire and brimstone. I am not perfect, but i am on the other side of the spectrum when it comes to evil. And if you think you need help from an outside source, then cool. My help comes from within. As for "holier than thou" comment I made let me quote you "haven't seen god's beautiful light" "The skeptic will only change when he decides to believe." "while your belief seems to be fashioned around the conscience for its power, mine is fashioned around a limitless love and desire to be the righteousness of God. " "To say that God doesnt exist is to say that love doesnt exist." "that us, his greatest and most tresured creation" ">>>>Born into a buddahist household, I surely would have followed the path of enlightenment. I can only thank God with great gratitude that I was able to find Jesus. " "One day, maybe logic will tell you that faith is where the power actually is." I could go on.... Personally, I believe that Jesus was a cool man that had it going on. Just as I believe that the Dalai Lama is a cool man, do I believe he was reincarnated? No. But I will choose to listen to his teachings of compassion and forgiveness before I would ever listen to a preacher. Jesus too, I believe, was sorely misunderstood and later, misrepresented. I don't buy a virgin birth, nor the raised from the dead story. If all religion did was teach the love that Jesus purportedly taught, that would be cool. But then they lumped fear fear fear................. I prefer to fear what is real (in my reality). PeaceOut, Jeans PS and if we are his most treasured creation, he is a pretty twisted sort..... A serious question, do you think he listens to us pray, and honestly what do you pray for? Have you ever prayed for a better job, or to not run out of gas when you are on empty, or world peace? (this is a serious question) ~~We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly~~MLK

Fear hellfire and brimstone? From this same merciful god? Fear...fear....fear...... If I don't believe in heaven and hell, I guess I have nothing to fear. Righteousness, mercy, goodness, and compassion are not defined by dogma. Love is something man created to differentiate us from the animals. But, if there is a God, we are his biggest joke. He was bored on the 6th day, the animals had it down, breeding, they knew the pecking order and didn't question it. God said, "let me create man and woman, two completely different species, give them the ability to cross breed, give them animal instincts and the ability to reason." One the 7thy day, God laughed! I really respect other people's views and beliefs as their own. Religion, or lack thereof, is a personal thing, but this holier than thou dialog has been really fun to read, and I couldn't resist. BTW, when are ya'll gonna be disappeared? I want your house! Peace, Jeanie ~~We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Let's get back to the original thread. Jesus would not have bombed anyone, because although he was merely a man, he was a peaceful man! Too bad his message has been overshadowed by the shouts of "hellfire and brimstone" of the preachers. "Collective fear stimulates herd instinct, and tends to produce ferocity toward those who are not regarded as members of the herd." -Bertrand Russell But let's not forget ego and greed, they are great catalysts.
