  1. If you knowingly infect someone with an STD, I thought you are liable for a suit?
  2. Holy crap. Quick reaction speed! Glad he made it out
  3. The old bush passed some fucked up law requiring a certain number of US parts in guns that are converted to pistol grip inside the country, a law that has never been enforced and only scares people just enough to waste money on parts that are total shit compared to the originals. I heard he did it as a bartering chip to negotiate with some liberals. Isn't that how most right wing gun laws come about?
  4. Hahaha! Watch out you are going to start taking musket fire... hahaha
  5. Modern transmitters/receivers have a very long range, to the point where the model would be out of sight by the time you loose control. But when you are moving a mile every 5 seconds, it is easy to see how it might get far away in no time... haha
  6. 366mph! Fuck! I fly some RC also, and the fastest I have been is about 100mph, that is fast enough for me. The engines they use on those are bad ass, but cost something like $5,000.
  7. Me too. Why do you think I needed ankle surgery?
  8. Here is one for you from last night. You can see the glow of the turbine blades, they sure get warm. I should have my flame tube rebuilt tomorrow, and I will try to run it again tomorrow night.
  9. Ice boats can't go faster than the wind, directly down wind, unless they are jibing.
  10. You should get started on your engine! This thing has been allot of fun. I am using an oil pump from a Volkswagen bug, because I had it laying around, but I hear that power steering pumps work well. The pump I have doesn't have a seal on the output shaft, so I installed a O-ring and applied some gasket maker to the pump body where the shaft goes in, and it only leaks a little bit while running. The oil system has been the biggest issue, everything else is pretty simple. I built the combustor out of steel, the oil tank out of a paint can, bought an oil pressure gauge from an auto parts store for about 25 bucks, and used a tire pressure gauge for the inlet pressure gauge. About running slowly, these things haul ass! Even a slight increase in throttle makes that thing start really accelerating, and produce lots of heat.
  11. Success! I got the thing running tonight. It sure makes one heck of a noise. There was an issue with some pulsing, I think I know what the problem is. Inside the flame tube, one of the holes that allows air into the center of the combustor is right next to the main air inlet, and I think that it is causing some flame front problems. I will weld up the hole tomorrow and try again. Also, my fuel regulator only needs about an 1/8 of a turn to get about full throttle, so I will install a needle valve instead to get better control. I am running on gaseous propane, but a number of liquid fuels are possible, including liquid propane, diesel, kerosene, Jet-A, etc. Propane is the easiest, because it quickly vaporizes, and doesn't require a fuel pump. I may try other fuels in the future, but for these early stages I would like to get it running well on propane first, before I make it more complicated. Afterburners are usually run on liquid fuels, and I would like to put one one eventually, so I will be looking for a high pressure pump sometime soon.
  12. I am wheelchair bound for the next month, after ankle surgery a few days ago. A few of my friends have advocated that I attach the jet to my wheelchair, although I think steering would be an issue hahaha.
  13. Well right now it is just a test stand engine, my oil pump and ignition (a ballast for a neon sign, works great!) both run on 120v, so I would have to convert them to 12v to make it mobile. Some people put them on go carts with decent results. My turbo is fairly small, and I only expect about 10-15lbs of thrust, which is barely enough to drive a vehicle of some sort. Some of the larger turbos like the ones off of Mac trucks can produce much more power, but they cost a fair bit. I just tried running it again, using the exhaust from a in house vacuum, which provided ample thrust. Unfortunately, it wouldn't start, I think I have a problem with the combustor or something, I am going to remove it from the engine and test it by itself, to see what is up. I may need to make a new injector, or modify the flame tube. Regardless of troubles, it is still a fun project, and should make it that much more rewarding when I finally get it running. Thanks for that link, lots of good info!
  14. Using an old turbocharger from the scrapyard and some random bits, you can make a real turbojet engine. It has been a fun project, I tried starting it today for the first time but need a different way of supplying air to get it up to starting speed. All you do is build a combustor, which takes the air from the compressor side of the engine and adds fuel, creating expanding gas which then drives the exhaust turbine. Add high pressure oil, propane, and away you go. I thought some of the airplane junkies on here might miss the smell of a jet engine while away from the dz, now you can fill your whole house with it if you like. Here is a picture of what a setup looks like, I will try to post up a picture of mine sometime soon. http://www.cursorkeys.com/uploads/images/Turbojet/Cardiff%20Loading.jpg Idle is around 25,000rpm and max is 100,000-120,000rpm
  15. I agree attacking the kids is low. It happens on both sides of the political spectrum though, and when you make a title specifically targeting the right wing, you loose credibility in my book. You are such a known right wing hater, that your posts are almost laughable in my book. You should try leaving out the whole right vs left wing aspect, and simply present the topic as "radio host makes fun of obama's daughter" and then maybe people would draw their own conclusion that the right wing is "evil". Better that way then trying to forcibly see your way of things. Just an idea.
  16. My friend and I were driving in his car a few months back, and hit a brown lab, which had run out right in front of the car. The dog was injured severely, and limped over to the house it had come from. The owner was not there, and the dog had managed to dig under the side gate and get loose. We rang the door and got the neighbors out, none of which had the owner's cell number. We were in a bit of a pickle, because the dog was dying and we didn't want to see it suffer, but we also did not want to drive off with this guy's dog. (also, we would have had to pay for the bills at the time, correct? I don't think there is a law like hospitals have where they are required to stabilize the patient) This was also an issue because if the dog owner decided not to pay for treatment, we might have been stuck with the bill. At the time, we were determined to see the dog get care, and luckily the neighbor volunteered to take the dog in, but right before they left the owner arrived, and took the dog himself. The owner did not seem upset, but later he called my friend and told him the dog had died, and was quite upset. He even went so far as to insult my friend, which made me incredibly pissed. My friend is not the type who handles these situations well, and I know he was very sad when he hit the dog, and I feel like the owner deserved an ass kicking for trying to blame my poor friend for hitting his dog when it was obviously his fault. Nothing became of it, because I also felt sorry for the owner, but the moral of the story is 1. KEEP YOUR FUCKING PETS UNDER CONTROL 2. Make SURE your neighbors have a way of contacting you in an emergency. So, who would have payed the dog's emergency bills at the time? It certainly was a dilemma, we were planning on doing it though, poor dog. P.S. Luckily the car was not damaged, so that portion of the story was a non factor.
  17. What is the capital of Thailand??
  18. What a bummer. Easy rider was such a cool movie. I heard he was very active in the civil rights movement as well, I will miss him.
  19. There are some pictures on this site of military freefall jumpers exiting an osprey, the snag hazards on the inside of the fuselage were significant!!!
  20. 21. Getting your kid from newborn to 18 years is quite an accomplishment, and when they are in good shape at the end of it, it is a nice bonus! Being a father has got to be one of the most significant thing in life, congrats for doing a good job of it. I am glad he started his college courses early, I am 25 and still working on my AS, hopefully someday I will have a BA in Aerospace engineering, if I can hang in there that long hahaha.
  22. CONGRATS!!!! You said the engine was already run at the factory, correct? It is a good idea to keep the idle quite high, to keep the oil pressure up. Also, get the engine nice and hot before you take it out, and when you ride it, don't be afraid of giving it a decent amount of throttle, and keep the rpms and load varied. Something like 95% of the ring seating occurs in the first 1 hour of run time, so by the end of that you want to be doing some pretty good pulls to make sure the rings are seating properly. Let us know how tomorrow goes!!!
  23. In 1996, Illegals payed about 10 billion in taxes. This is quite a bit, however they also collected about 30 billion in social programs, the largest of which is K-12 schooling. This leaves us in the hole about 20 billion. Illegals are costing us a lot, we need to stop them. Green cards need some way of being verified by employers, as well as social security cards. These 2 pieces of ID are bought on the street by illegals, and get this, the social security administration doesn't give a crap. When they receive money from a paycheck under a false social security number, they simple add the number to a file of "unknowns" which they say they will figure out later, but never do. This file is responsible for a large amount of taxes, they don't want to stop those taxes. Every department is trying to cover their own ass, even though the illegals are killing us. Yes tunnels can be dug, and ladders constructed. However, solid fencing will do its part in an overall plan of stopping immigration. It starts with stopping the laws we have in place here that allow illegals to function here. If less illegals are trying to come, border security will have a much easier time dealing with the drug cartels. Oh, and to address my comment about liberals and illegal immigration, it seems many people I know say that "They are taking the jobs that nobody here want" "Who are we to stop them from coming here? We took their land from them!" etc. Granted, these are not indicative of a political view, but it seems like liberals are easier on the whole issue.
  24. Nice work!!!!! That dubbel is sure tasty. Is the stout the chocolate stout? That stuff is the bomb.
  25. Ok, which is why I noted that currently border security is costing a fortune, when some of that money should go towards double layer fencing. Do you know how much taxpayer money is being spent on illegals? A huge sum. Something that confuses the fuck outta me is why the hell do left wingers not care about illegal immigration, while right wingers do? The ones that benefit are the companies employing them, while entry level low skilled workers suffer. Totally lopsided.
