Bryan Burke - SDAZ 270 Policy notes
2shay replied to billvon's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
from what i have read it doesn't sound like sda is interested in other landing areas or split areas, correct me if I am worng. The whole thing about the economics, up jumping isn't economic to a dz at all. So..... I think they could let them slide with some low passes, that is just how I feel about it though don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
do you flat pack or pro pack and why ??

that is why in my earlier thread I had said that i do understand in special situations, this would be one of them. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
Bryan Burke - SDAZ 270 Policy notes

you said it yourself. The 20% minority is the most influential, experienced, and most current skydivers on the dz. Do you think giving the boot to all these experienced, brilliant and knowledge filled skydivers would be the right answer. I don't. I have found that swoopers are obviously the best canopy pilots and know the most about patterns, safe swooping, etc. I would say some will stay and make due anyway, but a fair amount may find other dz's. Leaving new jumpers with a ton of questions and the want for this knowledge, lost. There have been many good ideas for a partial and hopefully a permanent solution to all of this. The thing is, is that like the swoopers or not they weren't the only ones caught with their hand in the cookie jar. Sounds to me like swoopers and standard pattern pilots can co-exist as an example of byron, oregon, and many others. I personally don't see the swoopers just going away. This is a skydiving problem. Skydiving is a risky sport we all know that, and no one held a gun to my head and made me jump. Once again I do think there are many safe ways to co-exist as stated before in the thread. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -

okay, well you guys go ahead and flat pack all you want then. All the manufacturers who recommend pro pack must be incompetent. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
do you flat pack or pro pack and why ??
2shay replied to gravitywhore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
they both have their pros and cons, but wasn't one of the reasons other than manufacturer recommending it, that it is easier, quicker, and takes less space. No, I do not think we should abandon older styles, but there is usually good reasoning in a new one being put in place. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
i thinks it is shitty that peole think that they are safer and get SOFT ABOUT IT. Evoryone needs to be on their toes on at all times during skydiving. I do think that, that attitude combined with the extra saftey features can be safer, but can not be "played with." don't try your bullshit with me!!!

i do understand, however it does take more space and may be quciker for you but i will go out on a limb and say not for most people. I can pack in 6 min consistently and other friends that can pack in 3. I think this does help students know how the canopy is, and all comes together. I also know that the pro pack is proven safe and surely safe if you do your lines and have your brake lines down the center for sure. So yeah the flat it is good for a bit, but then I think experienced jumpers need to "get with the program." and pro pack. Not that the flat pack is bad because it is certainly great, but think of all the jumpers flat packing? all the space? I think the sport has evolved and rightfully so. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
do you flat pack or pro pack and why ??
2shay replied to gravitywhore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
what is the point in flat packing? the pro is faster for 95% of us at least, takes a lot less room and just as safe. Guess I just don't see the point in it other than special situations in which it is needed. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
that is that pd reps opinion, but i have seen a lot of people psycho pack all sorts of canopies and have great consistent openings. It is safe and has been proven to be. don't try your bullshit with me!!!

psycho packing is effective on containing the canopy don't try your bullshit with me!!!

you maybe right, I just want the sport to eliminate all avenues before doing so. don't try your bullshit with me!!!

skydivers voluntarily quitting the sport?

I think flat packing does help students learn the canopy and how it all comes together, but after learning that and doing some of that type they need to move on. Pro is safe, functional, reliable. Flat packing for up jumpers is old school, and 99% of the time it is not needed. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
I know there are some not so good dzo's out there along with skydivers who don't give a damn, but the uspa reminds me of the national govt. While they are good, they are involved with way too much. If we get them involved that will just be the start of it, to where in the end the rules/recommendations will be so tight we won't even be able to have a good time. Once again not arguing that there is a problem. That is just how I see it. I agree we should be educated on how, why, when, where, etc on flying our canopies along with the dz's setting up seperate lz's. Skydive dallas has 180 degree turns and below in one and everything higher in another. I think this is a good base for safe landing along with educating skydivers. I just really think we should let uspa be our last option. don't try your bullshit with me!!!
-
I agree with the need for seperate lz's, but I think it should be done by the dropzone owners. USPA does not need to be involved we can bind together and do it ourselves. don't try your bullshit with me!!!

have you checked out Rawa. It is a really nice setup and reasonably priced. I love mine it is fuctional and very comfy. Good luck don't try your bullshit with me!!!

skydivers voluntarily quitting the sport?
2shay replied to aguila's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I totally agree with quality iver quantity and failed to mention that. Just trying to get across the point that the more jumps you have the better chance of you being an all around better skydiver don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
if it is a concern of yours you would not be out of line to talk with your s&ta and dzo about a helmet wearing policy. You don't need a bunch of jumps to tell somebody that they are wrong either don't try your bullshit with me!!!
-
I don't and never plan on using a packer, not that they are bad or good. I would work on packing everyday in the evening maybe 3 packs a night to start with and then up to 5 or as many as it takes. time yourself, get with a rigger to make sure you aren't wasting time with certain things on packing that make little to no difference on opening. practice that is the only way to get better. I think if you want to be a good skydiver and make a lot of jumps, fast, efficient, and functional packing is one of the keys. If you insist on using packers i would do slider, pilot chute, etc. before you give it to them just so there is noone to blame but you. Hell after you have done all that you might as well pack it in my opinion. don't try your bullshit with me!!!

skydivers voluntarily quitting the sport?
2shay replied to aguila's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe. Betting on no though, I am very stubborn on stuff like that. Have quite a bit more jumps than your guess. What I posted may have seen like a negative spin on things and that was NOT my intention there, but damn those people get under my skin and I have seen quite a few of these same people being routine safety hazards. i just believe the more you jump the more you will learn and you will become that much more safe, potentially. Whole different thread though. don't try your bullshit with me!!! -
another good reason for wearing a helmet aside from the obvious protection of yourself. That if your helmet is not on your head or secured in some way it can become a projectile and could hurt other jumpers. don't try your bullshit with me!!!

skydivers voluntarily quitting the sport?
2shay replied to aguila's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I know a lot of people who have quit because of yupee people getting in the way who are there more to say that they jump and that they are cool, rather than being in the sport because they love to jump. I did NOT start jumping to make friends and inflate my ego. I did it because i love to jump. I think and hope that more dz's adopt more of a hardcore, "shut up and jump" attitude. Screw getting down and bullshitting about the jump and then packing slowly and dilly dallying around. Jump and then go do it again and again and again all day, your chances of learning more will increase dramatically. If you don't like to do this thats fine too, just get the hell out of the way of people who really have passion for the sport. don't try your bullshit with me!!!
