  1. BINGO. FEMA has three core missions, 1) Individual Assistance, 2) Public Assistance, and 3) Hazard Mitigation Assistance - wait for it - this funding is for measures designed to reduce future losses to public and private property. Like I said, a lot of DEM's aren't held accountable or have any oversight for continuous improvement to their mitigation plans. There are only two states that work daily on hazard mitigation scenarios, Florida and Mississippi. The irony is the federal funding is there to minimize future events. But, they don't do it. ETA: Because they don't; each disaster winds up costing more than it should. To steal from Ben Franklin - A million dollars of prevention is worth ten million of cure.
  2. Well then, Texas probably ought to tear up that emergency declaration for federal funding, huh? Sorry, but Texas has TDEM and their whole reason to exist is to work with government, the public, businesses, etc. to develop scenarios of impending disasters and ways to mitigate those disasters. It's called the National Response Framework for a reason. To be prepared and ready to execute a plan for a myriad of disaster scenarios - in advance.
  3. Ahhh, yes. I remember that. Thanks for reminding me. I had forgot all about the -MZ Raven was one of my favorite reserves. Most favorite was the Falcon main/reserve combo. Loved the Falcon.
  4. The real issue is why didn't Texas after the 2011 ice storm pick up the phone and call Canada that has wind turbines operating at -30F that don't freeze and ask, "Hey, how you Canadians doing that?"
  5. I would estimate 30% of the class changed majors.
  6. You joined dz.com 15 years ago and THIS thread motivated you to put hands to keyboard?
  7. Back in the early nineties, everyone said, "You gotta listen to this guy!" Was driving back from grad school one day and caught him. Couldn't take 15 minutes of it. Click. Ain't heard a word since. I think it was a time when the signal to noise ratio inverted.
  8. <thread drift> I graduated jump school in May 1980 - HONOR GRADUATE!!! Iron Mike is in the hero bookcase. </end thread drift>
  9. Brother, 30 years ago, we were jumping F-111 canopies and many still had round reserves. Innovation is about change. It takes time and money. Once innovation takes hold and the market begins to lean that way (as with any of the "ages" bronze, industrial, etc.), there is an acceleration right after the early adopters and the change becomes a constant. I'm not sure why you are so deeply resistant to EV's or AGW, but your unwillingness to embrace the future of clean technologies is somewhat disconcerting. And, I'm going to point out that you're starting to post like Jakee and SkyDekker - you post the exception and not the rule and then want to argue the argument. Now, if you'll excuse me; I've got a unicorn to saddle and some clouds that need to be punched.
  10. I was never convicted and they dropped all the charges.
  11. It's a great time to be alive - https://www.gmc.com/electric-truck/hummer-ev. And, I still want a Harley Davidson Road Glide EV that get's 500 miles on a charge.
  12. If you look at the bottom of the page here - you'll find links to FB, Twitter & Instagram.

“The structure of the economy is of course different,” Verner notes. However, he adds, “While one shouldn’t extrapolate too directly from history, we can learn some of the lessons that may be relevant to us today.” First among those lessons, he emphasizes: “Pandemic economics are different than normal economics.” “Pandemics Depress the Economy, Public Health Interventions Do Not: Evidence from the 1918 Flu,”
  14. OK, back to our regularly scheduled program. You two are to be congratulated. In the link I posted, I was "nightjumps" on here back then and the event organizer. The amount of planning and logistics before the big day takes months and is no small endeavor. The entire US skydiving community was involved either by knowing about it, watching it, donating to it, etc. Our charity was the Humane Society and the theme was, "Sit, Stay, Jump." Jay Stokes wished us all well and gave technical tips prior to the event. The first time we did it; we only got like 68 jumps due to plane issues, so the clock burned out. Then, the South African Team contacted us and told us they'd made a 100. so we had to start the planning all over again and were successful in beating that. Jay Stokes wished us all well and gave technical tips prior to the event. Congratulations to you both. Well done.
  15. I don't know whether Cuoma was saying something someone told him to say, but it reminds me of statistics 101. "95% of drivers have accidents within five miles of their house."
  16. I shared that link with you not to "One up your accomplishment," but to share with you that it is quite an undertaking on the logistical side and the human side for the pilots and jumpers and I apologize for posting fast instead of explaining more in detail. I do have one question. Does anyone else see the irony in skydivers jumping to raise money for Mental Health?
  17. I dare you to walk into a COVID Ward and see just how devastating this virus is on the human body - hell, go see someone who has facetime as they monitor their dying loved one in the hospital. Don't get me wrong; I do believe we need to re-open the economy, but after we get this virus under control. You know, our grandparents sacrificed so much more during WWII (everything was rationed) and we came together to face a foreign enemy. We need to come together for this enemy also. God forbid someone misses out on their Starbucks or sumpin. We as a nation have zero fucking patience to get through anything anymore.
  18. I know the VA Hospital in Amarillo and OKC uses their parking lots for solar panels. http://www.skylinesolaraz.com/p01.htm https://city-sentinel.com/2012/11/va-funds-solar-energy-project-in-oklahoma-city/ The future is here - embrace it.
  19. "Wall of Fame" not "Wall of Shame."
  20. From June of 2019 to August of last year - me and a couple of friends did 50K+ miles in the Harleys No destination - All Journey. We'd wake up in the morning and rotate who got to choose the direction. From Florida to Washington State zig-zagging around the country. We came home in November of 2019 and took back off last March. Had to add my favorite pic... entering Glacier National Park
  21. There's just some shit that makes my blood boil. Cops (as in plural) pepper sprayed a nine year old child. WTF. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/you-did-it-yourself-officer-tells-9-year-old-girl-n1257630
