LOL. I was reading about anti-Asian racism and found myself down this bunny hole that took me there. But, I also found a fabulous sea salt scrub for my skin.

I have faith that it and the Democratic party will both become more moderate and work toward, "One Nation." https://www.marieclaire.com/politics/a35685385/republican-party-future/

If the most if us are either bum fuck crazy, delusional or open to believing the most absurd propositions, and I dare you to argue otherwise, would it still be a people problem? We don't let kids drive for a reason, right? I mean surely there are quite a few who could handle it at 10 years old, yes? It was an admittedly poor attempt at sarcasm. My daughter was driving our street legal golf cart, then the cops showed up at my house. I'm all puffed up right, because I made sure with the Police Chief that it was all legal - right down to her taking a golf cart safety course. I'm thinking someone reported her and they were WRONG!. She'd busted through a stop sign WHILE on her phone. Damn criminals.

Well, there are too many gun laws, but not many are effective. Gun laws/regulations are not the slippery slope; fucking with the second amendment is the slippery slope. Not trying to be rude, just stating a fact; gun sales always go up for the following reasons, 1) the Dems win (perceived threat of government intervention regarding ownership or banning certain types of guns or LCMs), or 2) perception that Armageddon is coming and we'll all have to become survivalists. Not saying any of this is rational - it is what it is. And, the republicans seem to forget that democrats are just the same when it comes to their enthusiasm for guns - well, at least in rural areas. You wanna know the real kicker right now - go buy all the guns you want and fill up your house with them - then try to go buy ammo. You can't find it, unless you're willing to pay ten times what its worth. You can't reload right now - primer shortage.

Have some faith in the younger "R's" brother. They're more moderate. If any group is going to reform the R party; it's be the 18-38 year old's.
-
I wasn't aware of this Rob. I need to research it a bit.

I was speaking of dictatorships. Australia's democracy and the Tasmanian Massacre were the catalyst for change from the ground up. And, they did not have a second amendment - which is a major hurdle for the US (Me included).

Please understand this was proposed right after the Douglas High School Massacre and I used the Israeli model of protecting schools as a base. We can hope. I have no qualms with my or anybody else's kid being under armed guard at school. It was addressed in Section C I "Parents & students must sign an acknowledgement to allow" and was based on the difference between reasonable suspicion and probable cause in schools here.

Thanks for remembering some key points of the gun proposal thread.

Now, you're sounding all skydekkerish. I am not some petulant school child with a C grade in Algebra. Do better - geez. So this + Ken's comment just goes to show that you guys don't get it. Our constitution was written with the express intent of NOT having a government of the minority. Britain, King, taxation w/o representation, etc., etc. Statements like this cause me grave concern - you all just watched as Trump tried to take power away from the legitimate president-elect. Lenin, Hitler, Castro, Noriega, all of them - first thing - take the guns from the people. Castro even said while taking their guns, [paraphrase] Why would the people object to the people's party. We just had a revolution.[/paraphrase] Repressive regimes - Brother I have lived it. What's the second thing to happen after they take the people's guns - imprison enemies of the state IOW: those who speak out against the government. You've heard the phrase regarding our Bill of Rights, "Well, you can't have one without the others." I believe that. Having said that, please don't confuse my position with the constitution with not being in favor of well-written legislation that prevents the number of murders by gun in the US. But, what's going to happen is the same old bullshit of the last 30 years. There'll be some legislation banning AWs and/or LCMs and this and that - which will pretty much be a dusting off of the same old legislation the Democrats used the last time, there'll be an election cycle, the pendulum will swing back to the Republicans, etc. etc. And in the end? In the end, we'll have this same fucking conversation five years from now. I'll give a "like" to whomever I feel when I feel "like" it and for good reason. I've given "likes" to people that I've had opposing positions with on here for years, but, when the substance of their missive warrants a "like" - I give it. Let me know when you're ready to get back on topic and we can discuss the substance of change, rather than the noise surrounding it. .
-
Wow. Not well-schooled on the history of repressive regimes, are we.
-
Hey Rob, But, we're not Canada and it's been defined as the exact intent our forefathers meant many times: U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (2007): The Amendment does not protect “the right of militiamen to keep and bear arms,” but rather “the right of the people.” The operative clause, properly read, protects the ownership and use of weaponry beyond that needed to preserve the state militias.

My apologies, it sounded like you were headed in the direction of ban "assault weapons."
-
You mean as in 30 dead in a weekend in Chicago from mostly 9mm Glocks, Or the number of Black men shot with 9mm by cops, or do you mean those nasty scary looking "Assault Weapons" specifically AR15's - which of ALL weapons used is the one that kills the least, but gets the headlines for a shooting event??? And, so here we go again - a non-solution solution, but I feel better legislation. I love when you guys talk of banning "AWs" and rescinding the 2nd Amendment - guarantee for a republican takeover in the next election. The left continues not to learn from it's previous mistakes. I'm at the point where I really don't think you want to solve the problem - you just want to complain about it again, for awhile, until the next one, and the next, and the next
-
Sorry, I should clarify. the 2000+ ineffective gun laws, not the 2nd Amendment.
-
OKLAHOMA!!! Don't forget Oklahoma!
-
I have to strongly disagree. Piecemeal is what got us where we are today with some 2,000+ gun laws that are ineffective. Repealing EVERY gun law known to the US and starting over with "Well-Regulated" in mind, with both parties is the way to go. At some point, we have got to say - our way isn't working, stop it, tear it down and start over.
-
No argument. Honing the amendments was part of the founders intent. I was addressing Ken's point regarding rescinding the 2nd.
-
The first ten are the "Bill of Rights" and not to be fucked with. With the exception of the 18th & 21st Amendments, they all added to the "Bill of Rights" and did not take away. The 18th Amendment seemed to forget the Tenth Amendment’s language, “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people” emphasizes that the inclusion of a bill of rights does not change the fundamental character of the national government. It remains a government of limited and enumerated powers, so that the first question involving an exercise of federal power is not whether it violates someone’s rights, but whether it exceeds the national government’s enumerated powers. We simply cannot and will not fuck with the Bill of Rights. Without it - there would be no free pres, no freedom of religion and most importantly - no civil rights acts.
-
Which can be done without rescinding the second amendment.
-
You seem to think you have it all figured out and you don't. We can solve the problem without sacrificing the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment, Gun Laws and less homicides can co-exist. You are simply stuck on a liberal platform of what is perceived as the solution and pandering for likes in this forum.
-
>>>>> I do not reach for the 2nd Amendment as an excuse or comfort. I reach for the entire constitution as a a founding document that makes this country unique and do not think it should be fucked with.. >>>>>> I don't dance around the edges - I go right to the heart of the issue. Stupid ass gun laws that both parties have developed over the last hundred years that are ineffective pieces of legislative feel good fluff, so that both parties can stand in front of their constituents and donors - and without conscious claim victory. >>>>> Nor should they have to, because that is never going to happen. No. Amending the constitution is a very slippery and sacred slope.
-
It's not true that Chicago has the strictest gun laws in the country. At one point, it did. It had banned handguns in the city limits, but a 2008 Supreme Court ruling declared that ban unconstitutional and a 2010 ruling reaffirmed that. Here's the kicker - When Chicago had its most strict gun laws, Homicides by Guns were higher. https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/breaking/ct-history-of-chicago-homicides-htmlstory.html Again, more gun laws are not the solution - good gun laws are the solution.

Understood. Thanks.
