No reason to pay for antivirus software, choose one of the free ones that's been mentiond. Never EVER install anything by Norton. It'll effectively make your computer run like sirup.

Coffee & moonshine (Yes, it's a strange tradition from parts of Norway)

Choose a side (motorist suing dead cyclist's family)
Loonix replied to waltappel's topic in Speakers Corner
No, but riding in the dark without lighting may well have a lot to do with what happened. Even if not legally required by local laws, it can still be considered a cause of the collision. Yes, definately. But assuming (which may be assuming much...) that both parties were acting responsibly expect for the things mentioned, the cyclist would be close to the side of the road, going the same way as the car. This lessens the relative speed between them, and the turn needed to evade the cyclist would be quite small. As Richards said, you should be able to avoid an obstacle in the road either way. A cyclist without light is not the most difficult scenario I can imagine. In Norway at least, you can be ruled to have acted irresponsibly as a driver even if you didn't drive faster than the speedlimit. Under difficult conditions, you need to drive accordingly. -
Choose a side (motorist suing dead cyclist's family)
Loonix replied to waltappel's topic in Speakers Corner
That sure goes both ways. I've spent quite much more time on a bicycle than I have driving a car, and it's amazing how many drivers that doesn't know that a cyclist actually has rights in the traffic. To survive as a cyclist, I've basically had to learn to live by the "fact" that every driver is trying to kill me. (also, that all pedestrians are suicidal, and aims for death-by-bike). This only leaves other cyclists to be afraid of, because they (like yourself) think they have everything under control Actually I sometimes think that bicycling is the most dangerous activity I participate in. I've sure had far more oh-shit moments on a bike than under a parachute -
Yea, that's what I was thinking too, but pretty cool picture either way

CSS/JS flaw in non-IE/netscape browsers

Just checked. There are no problem on those two sections. -
CSS/JS flaw in non-IE/netscape browsers
Loonix replied to Loonix's topic in Suggestions and Feedback
I'm using Opera (since it's far superior to anything else ), and have to identify as MSIE to get the correct CSS code. From the page source: function itsMsie() { if (browser == "Microsoft Internet Explorer") ieVersion() } if ((browser == "Netscape") && (ver1>= 4)){ itsNetscape() } else { itsMsie() } Simply dropping function itsMsie() and go straight to ieVersion will solve it. The way it is now, only MSIE and netscape is served any CSS (and firefox, since it also identifies as netscape). This has been bugging me for a while now, thought I'd finally mention it -
Psychological Well-being and Extreme Sports?
Loonix replied to GAR333's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I second that. I skydive not because it's risky, but in spite of it. -
..."college students cannot read a ruler" You got to be kidding?!

Uh, is it just me or does posting a question like this in a public forum seem like a bad idea? Walt It's just you. And jm951: I'd prefer not to make it from urine

I'm going to make black powder, and had it all figured out, but now it seems I wont be able to get a hold of potassium nitrate after all (which I thought was quite easy - wrong). I do have sodium nitrate... Is there anything besides sodium nitrate being hygroscopic i have to pay attention to, or can I just replace the two and follow standard procedure, except keeping it particularly dry?

DAMN! Kudos to the host keeping a more or less straight face! -
On my FJC, my instructors asked us why we wanted to skydive. I thought "isn't it obvious?!". I still think that.

I think at least half the people in my club does it. There's a line on the dropzone too... Why? Well I don't know... it's fun?

Done. Do post the results.

When hanging in a tree, there are more options than just hanging in the harness. I had the tree trunk right in front of me, Then you weren't fully suspended - lucky you Having read that site, I'm wondering if one should mention to students that if fully suspended (whatever you're hanging from), move legstraps forward, to get to a sitting position. From my understanding, that removes the problem.
-
Sounds like you did the right thing. I'm not suggesting anyone should downclimb unless they are confident they can do it. I'm a climber, and therefore have some knowledge on harnesses. My previous post may have been a little bold, but from my knowledge, hanging in a harness for prolonged periods of time IS dangerous. More so with full body harnesses (such as a skydiving harness) than with a regular climbing harness. I googled now, and did not find any overly convincing sources to show, although here's something, at least: http://www.sapsis-rigging.com/articles/UB.FAResc.html There are other threads on this forum concerning passing out due to blood "getting stuck" in your legs, basically lowering bloodpressure in your brain, causing unconsciousness. That is only part of the problem; the actually dangerous part is the forming of bloodclots. I know there are people on this forum that can shed some light on this, hopefully they'll chip in.
-
Hanging in a skydiving harness for a longer period of time is very dangerous due to constriction of bloodvessels. SIMs are one thing, but I believe common sense is a fairly good substitute. If I feel confident that I can climb down, I will.

It has started now, but it took a while. I can't remember the #, but it's a wyeast lager yeast. I waited for it to start fermenting at room temp, and when it began, I put it in an 11C room.

Reminds me of "the axis of evil" ..
-
I've been a home brewer for about 24 hours now.. Shouldn't it be fermenting by now, btw? Oh well. That didn't help you much, did it..

Weapons left by US troops 'used as bait to kill Iraqis'

http://news.independent.co.uk/world/middle_east/article2996115.ece Nice strategy. Another example of "guilty until proven innocent". Except that the victim has no chance to prove his or her innocence, since the punishment here is immediate death penalty...
