  1. Perhaps an AJAX shoutbox, if you're using JS already. Those doesn't require the page to be reloaded, the clientside JS will just poll the server every 5 seconds (or something) for updates. There's plenty of freeware ones if you google around a bit. You're not saying if you've coded the page yourself or not. Integrating one with your current code may need some hacking. Or just use a regular shoutbox including reloading of the page for updates. Simpler is better, 99% of the time, in my opinion ;) I wrote an ajax box for my page, but removed it again because of compatibility issues.
  2. This is exactly what you must not do. Water in the lungs makes the alveolies (that's probably misspelled...) in the lungs collapse. Therefore you must move as little as possible until help arrives, to avoid the water spreading. Breathe oxygen if possible.
  3. I'm a scuba instructor, and I've never heard this called "dry-drowning" - in SSI, it falls under the 'pulmonary edema' umbrella of illnesses, which we would treat with 100% oxygen until they get to medical care ... IF we could identify it! The problem seems like it's really hard to identify. People get tired (for a variety of reasons), change behaviour (excited or tired or overwhelmed) and have difficulty breathing (wet suit or BC too tight or a number of other reason) all the time when diving. Usually we identify problem from a combination of symptoms, but it's really hard to tell with borderline cases. You don't want to over-react to every little symptom that someone has, but you don't want them to walk around sick or dying either. Scary stuff. I can't remember if we used the term "dry drowning", in fact, I doubt we did. Can't remember exactly what we called it, and can't be bothered to look up in the books either right now ... But I thought dry drowning meant drowning without inhaling water - suffocation. We have pretty strong reflexes preventing us from inhaling water. Yes, treat with oxygen, but again, what we learned is don't look for symptoms. If one believe the victim has inhaled water, they NEED help, regardless of any symptoms. Do you think it's possible to inhale water without noticing? Sounds pretty strange to me. Perhaps some lifeguard on the forum could chip in and enlighten us.
  4. I prefer having a leash, and don't really understand the point in doing it without. But to each their own, I guess. Here's a few pictures from last weekend, on a slightly less spectacular line :) http://loonix.technigga.net/dk/highline
  5. I learned about this through scubadiving, but understood it as a fairly well known problem... Although what I was taught was that in case of a near-drowning, one must be kept still, and get help, even if there are no other symptoms. "have been swimming" and "change in behaviour" ... well. Sounds like that'll trigger alot of false alarms. I believe I'll notice it pretty clearly if I inhale even a bit water, although I have no first-hand experience... *knock on wood*
  6. You mean there are people out there who would PAY for this?
  7. Damn Albert and that LSD habit of his. Without that shit I'm sure he would've lived to 103..!
  8. Could you elaborate on that? I don't understand how loose risercovers would be a problem in this case. Another question for those going straight to silver. What if the PCIT clears while you're pulling silver? If you've cut away first, chances are the main are gone before the reserve gets out, and there will be no entaglement. If you don't cut away, the reserve will instead try to deploy into a deploying main, which I should think is worse... What are your thoughts on this?
  9. I'm not sure wether to report this as a bug here, or report it to Opera (I've done that too...). Anyway... After the recent big change to the site, Opera (latest version) is using 99% cpu much of the time, leaving dropzone.com unresponsive. The same is the case on basejumper.com and rockclimbing.com, but only now became a problem on dropzone.com edit: This happens even when I've turned off flash, gifs, javascript, java, etc, and have blocked all ads.
  10. Yes, those are known as jpg artifacts. They appear because of jpg compression, and would appear on any highly compressed jpg image. Layering in photoshop or any other program does not do this. I don't see any reason that this is photoshopped. And I like the photo too.
  11. I think I should be able to communicate "hahahah" and "fuck you" in freefall too Still, must be nice to be able to chat like that in freefall

  14. I jump a sabre 1. I don't roll the nose, and I don't roll the tail very much either. I'm just paranoid about keeping the slider spread out and all the way up. My openings are fine

  16. Analyze my canopy and find out ;) I think most of the possible colors are in there...
  17. Depends on what you're after. Mainstream, albums: go with torrents. Single songs, rare songs: go with DC++.
  18. dc++ is the best i've found, if you just want single, even rare, songs. For any more or less popular album, use some torrent client. Neither will work well if the problem is a firewall or similar.
  19. They what?? Pizza parties on a climbing gym? Upgrade each route by 1 the following day, due to greasy holds...
  20. I strongly recommend you do NOT buy something looking like http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/img/2007/06/0627seagate.jpg this. I had one. It fell over accidentally, and that was the end of it. It may look "cool" or something, but the design is very unpractical for several reasons.
  21. First one makes me want a burger. Second one is pure propaganda, and I've grown pretty immune to such. So I still want a burger. What actually makes me want to eat less meat is the environmental issues with it.
  22. Sounds pretty irresponsible of you. I have one friend who'd most likely be dead today if it wasn't for his helmet. He was 10, and was hit by a truck. There are _plenty_ of examples, if you search a little. With a few close calls of my own, one of which could've turned out to be pretty ugly, I've decided to never ride my bicycle without a helmet. If you choose not to wear yours, fine with me, but if you're serious about not encouraging your kids to, then you're not just stupid, but effectively endangering your kids.
  23. is that so even if you're using an SSL connection to the server? Is it still available on the local wireless then?
