  1. it is impossible to design such a belt. If the plane moves forward, the belt cannot match its speed, since when the belt increases speed, it also increases the speed of the wheels.
  2. The first link was death per 100,000 users. The second link was total annual deaths. Both are good data, but offer different information. nope, read what i said :) its per drug user, not per user of one given drug.
  3. that statistic is pretty silly... since there are many more people who use tobacco than use heroin. If you classify them all as drug users, then of course tobacco will come out worse.. Deaths per 100.000 user of [substance] would make sense.
  4. you need another atlernative... In Norway, the state will pay your medical bills.. so if i have or not is a question of definition. And I guess some countries has a mandatory health insurance too, where they arent even allowed to jump without. Which would skew the results of your poll. I voted 42. :)
  5. ok. umm. hi. Can't make any more posts, though, must keep (number of posts) < (number of jumps) ...
  6. most likely not. Sound travels slower than the bullet. Yes, the sound has less distance to travel, but you don't hear things when the sound hits your ears. You hear when the nerve signals reaches your brain, which takes a bit. There must also be a hearing-center in the brain to register it, and it would probably be too messed up to recieve anything by that time. Of course, this means you have to hit well. People have survived getting things through their heads... in that case, I guess you'd hear it..

    My first 6a+

how to improve? Climb more. Forearm strength comes with climbing, and if you are new, the best you can do is to just climb more. Other ways of training are usually not very practical, and incredibly boring. Have someone experienced look at your technique. The general advice for new climbers is to improve foot technique. Be aware of where you put your foot, and trust the footgrip. Then try to use legs to push upwards. Climbing is damn cool. Can't wait to get started with it again. I lack climbing partners :(
  8. I'm not sure how it is like in the USA, but in Norway, the fact is that after serious accidents, the number of students for FJCs actually increases... It is weird, but true. Which makes me quite unsure about how bad this really is, at least when it comes to the business aspect. on a sidenote, the story has also hit norwegian newspapers.
  9. having a religion makes sense for alot of people. It gives hope and may strengthen you when down, etc. Do not underestimate the power of placebo.. There's a reason evolution gave it to us, and I think it still may have advantages, for some people. There is, however, no reason to believe what the bible says, or that of holy books of other religions.
  10. Had 1 jump on a pilot, and it taught me the meaning of "soft opening". I prefer my sabre tho, it reminds me that this is an extreme sport, after all
  11. yes, girls that skydive is sexy, unless they brag about it. Bragging is a big turnoff no matter who it comes from. ...which is why you need to find a girl who skydives :) It just occured to me, in my club, all the active jumpers are single, except for those who has an SO who skydives.. :)
  12. only if you are sexy already. If you're not, you're just another geek trying to impress.. ;)
  13. weed/pot is actually a drug that generally does not make you do things you would not do sober. But government "info" campaigns doesn't seem to care much about truth, at least where I come from, and seemingly that is the case in the USA as well. I don't know if most people actually believes the crap over there, but here the only thing we generally know about anti drug propaganda is that most of it is bullshit. And the remaining part drowns in the bullshit.
  14. no brand is better, compare cameras against cameras. Do yourself a favor and spend some time figuring out what you want. megapixels and optical zoom is NOT everything!! try www.dpreview.com for example. Also look into olympus.. they have some really good ones (it wasnt on your list).
  15. of course you can. but you're rich yourself ;) unless you're just a poser on the forum, and only borrowing that thing you're starting at :b
  16. Now let us also pray that the meds already out there will reach everyone, not only us rich people.
  17. HERE is the thread winner! 10 points for you, alex.
  18. could you elaborate on that? sounded interesting.. :)
  19. duh.. any daddys boy can go off and take an AFF course and be a skydiver in a week. SL takes dedication. I suggest the AFF students gets to work as packers for a few weeks before their course starts. Just so we know they aren't just some spoiled brats with too much money, just wanting to impress someone Oh, and making over 700 posts on here, instead of being out jumping.. what's THAT about?
  20. they go where everyone else goes: nowhere :)
  21. Thanks alot! yes, I hope you will, the minute I got my jump numbers and walletsize up, I will get a camera helmet for still pictures
  22. duh, where are you from? ;) Was jumping today at -12 celsius... "no sweat". Must mention that i was jumping at the most beautiful place in the world, Gudvangen, outside of voss, norway. attached picture.... (sorry for thread takeover, but i had to )
  23. you americans keep amazing me. :) really cool video. Impressive bit of climbing... it was the same guy jumping, right?
  24. "The earth was blue when I pulled..." - my first freefall (SL progression) "wow, this canopy was awesome!" - another student jump, when i downsized from 280 to 240 "Nothing cures a hangover like free fall" - a Sunday ;)
  25. Could someone recommend a good book on skydiving history? Trying to figure out what I want for christmas, but its all too expensive.. so I figured out a book could be nice. :)
