  1. point taken and understood, and I would never say "yeah, go and make riser turns now" which I didn't. I gave fair warning of how inexperienced I am and said what I'm doing and encouraged him to be aggressive but never once encouraged him to follow in MY footsteps, just to be aggressive. don't worry though, if I go in, I'll steer clear of everyone

  4. Hey man, actually, I would like to do that, how much are canopy coached jumps? I live about a half hr. from Tecumseh...half hr....to an hr? somewhere in there, and my buddy pete jumped there for a while. Ever jump at Napoleon? BE THE BUDDHA!
  5. so yest'rday was a great day to jump, the skies were crystal clear and blue, all day....while I was in class. I walked from class to class, across campus, with my eyes always to the sky, wishing I was down at the dropzone, even seeing some of our planes pass overhead. finally, I was done w/ my last class and I headed straight over. Unfortunately, by that time, the ceiling had started closing in. I got on a load and we made it up to the ceiling at 7500. we went through the clouds to try and find a hole to jump through, nothing. came back down, door was called at 7 grand. we launched a three way and came off just fine. I looked over at the camera man and flashed him a huge smile, only to see him look over to the other guy and laugh. I looked to my right, and to my surprise, saw our fellow diver's Butt sticking straight out towards us.... somehow, during the dive, he had managed to continue holding on to your shoulder sleeves (we don't like suits) and still flip entirely on to his back, folded in to a fetal position, with his butt in the middle of it all. we gave him a couple shakes to mess w/ him, and as we let go, the cameraman slapped him on the ass and he fell out of sight. By this time, we were in hysterics, barely able to hold an arch, we gave a quick wave and turned off and tracked. I watched them pull, and them pull and get under canopy, and then pulled myself. quite possibly, the funniest jump ever. his new name..."cheeks" BE THE BUDDHA!

  7. Yeah, I understand there are quite a few that have gone in, I've heard countless stories from all the experienced jumpers at my home dz and other dz's I've visited no, I don't think I'm special in any way and do believe that what I'm doing is dangerous, Hell, we're jumping out of planes!

  10. mmmk, so there have been a lot of warnings/angry private replies to my post. "I'm now getting progressively lower with my 90 degree riser landings and etc. " was worded...maybe so that it was mis-interpreted by you guys. I haven't actually landed comming straight out of a 90. I'm "getting progressively lower" by doing 90 dives closer and closer to the ground, working my way down and getting the feel for how long it takes my canopy to level out and be ready for my landing. you know, getting used to the ground rush and being able to percieve visually, the amount of time I have before impact, hopefully softly. I put a disclaimer before I started writing that I'm an extremely inexperienced jumper, and to take what I say, or leave it, knowing I have so few jumps. My riser play is something that I"m doing in part because I can't stand to be stagnant for too long, and in part because the owner of my home DZ advised me to start playing hard w/ my canopy, due to his assessment of my landings. I am being monitored by the experienced jumpers, the coaches, the tandem masters and the 2 owners of the dz. However, thank you for the advice...and concern...I guess?

Yeah dude, I was gonna say, FIRST cutaway, A-license, BEER! you cut away about 500 feet before I pull, there's things that could've been done better (in my personal opinion), but you're alive!!!! and live to jump another day! assesment of the situation: ABsolutely terrific JOB, who knows, maybe one day we'll jump together *applause* BE THE BUDDHA!
  12. what's up buddy, first off, before you read any advice I have to give, look at how many jumps I have and take it how you may. Ok, i've been playing hard w/ my canopy since I hopped under a turbo-Z 165 at 14 jumps, later, after a feet dragging the dirt, adrenaline-giving downwind landing sunset jump, I cranked up to a saber 170 I'm now getting progressively lower with my 90 degree riser landings and etc. anyway, my point in telling you all of this is that I am progressing quickly because I'm challenging myself, which it sounds like you're trying to do. being in brakes before landing is an excellent way to be accurate with your target and stalling that big of a canopy is near impossible (I've tried wrapping the brake lines around my wrist and everything to stall a canopy of that size) HOWEVER, when I come in to make a landing and I'm in full brakes, I make sure I start my brakes at atleast 2 to 3 hundred, because I'm so inexperienced. If you pull toggles down too hard (especially w/ moving to a smaller canopy) you could very well stall it. besides that, you have ground winds, rotors, all that stuff to think about. something I made the mistake of is getting overly confident with something that isn't safe, but worked for me a good 10, 12 times (freefly stuff w/ other newbies) make sure you keep that in mind, just because it worked, doesn't mean it's safe. something you may want to try is starting your full brakes really high (500 or so) and flying a good, confident landing pattern, this'll greatly improve your accuracy. Let up at 50, let her drop! It sounds like you're comming along just fine, Listen to the instructors, they know what they're talking about, but try not to take their anger and yelling to heart, I got screamed at for making a 2 way head down at 20 jumps with another jumper that just turned 100. He's right, that was really unsafe, so I took his advice to heart, but not the anger.. He's angry because he's worried for your safety

I strongly suggest doin a couple statics, it's a great way to progress in the course, as you can see from my profile, I'm brand new and just recently finished with the course (about 30 jumps ago) and the progression of tandem, static, IAF and solo was perfect for me, it was enough to make me a little apprehensive, but still extremely excited. a little discomfort is normal, so I've heard from other ppl and from my experiences, but it shouldn't overwhelm you with fear. just giv eyou enough to give you that adrenaline, woo! adrenaline! You know what? I'd like to talk more...but I'm gonna go drop out of a plane, LAYTAAAAAAAAA BE THE BUDDHA!
  14. "I once had a student land with wicked line twists and then tell me it wasn't possible to kick out of line twists. He said the technique doesnt work cause his twist kept getting worse. I asked if he tried kicking the other way and he looked at me confused. Then he told me I shouldn't teach the kicking tecnique to students because it doesn't work. *sigh* " I sincerely Hope that student either gets out of the sport or learns to think in his harness, YOu know what they say, If at first you don't succeed!
  15. Would a TRV 68 break my neck if I mounted it? any experience with a camera this large? BE THE BUDDHA!
  16. STart now, definately, I started working on it at 14 and had sort of reclining sit by 15, I'm just really intense about it. I jump a vector II and haven't had N E problems with it (have done 2 way head down, sit, barrel rolls, flips, back track) you're fine. have fun! BE THE BUDDHA!

Hey guys, this is Kiy, first post even though I've been on this site religiously for the llast couple months. anyway, I'm starting to get in to head down and did my 1st 2 way head down w/ a buddy yest'rday. all went well and we reached an average speed (according to Neptune at 9K) of 179. HOwever, I'm having some problems getting in to head down when I'm flying solo, any tips for getting in to it and establishing those first couple seconds of stability? Also, any tips on swooping under a 170? (ZP) my glide tends to pop up too quick BE THE BUDDHA!
