Bad spot + pilot 'chute in tow = ...
skyhighkiy replied to Frenchy68's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
another suggestion for getting more distance out of your canopy on a long spot (although wha tyou did was good) is to pull your rear risers down and push them outwards, this will cause your canopy to flatten out and decrease your downward momentum, while letting you float on the air that you have. Just a suggestion :) if anyone has anything to say out this, plz post, I'd like to learn more BE THE BUDDHA! -
I got a good deal on my stuff (that I"m jumping right now) and I bought mine for 700, main had about 500 jumps on it, I was told 900 would've been a fairly decent deal as well....I guess, if that gives U anything to judge on BE THE BUDDHA!

curious about the pro-track I'm jumpin a neptune right now as an audible righ tnow but I'd like to get something like it on the wrist (or switch it to my wrist) does the pro-track record max fall rates or do you need the software? (neptune records average and at certain altitutdes) I don't really wanna purchase the software for my neptune so if I can just find another audible (or wrist mount) that's digital, besides the digitude, and records Max and Min fall rates, I'd be happy Laytwaaaa BE THE BUDDHA!

Jumping with contacts and sunglasses?
skyhighkiy replied to windcatcher's topic in Safety and Training
But sunglasses do come in handy at the begining or end of the jump day due to the attitude of the sun.Quote HEED THIS WARNING I made a sunset jump w/ tinted goggles on one time....the light was fine when we left the ground, but after our 20 minute climb (in a c-182) it was way too dark to be wearing anything tinted. couldn't pull the goggles off because I was afraid to take the helmet off at the time (13 jumps) and the goggles were way too tight came in to a downwind landing, luckily the wind wasn't blowing too hard moral of the story, be careful when you choose to wear tinted, and if it's even hinting towards sunset, bring clears/sunglasses BE THE BUDDHA! -
well, you're not packing yet and you can just flick people off while comming down under canopy w/ toggles in hand, lol I've jammed my fingers seriously hard before and had them hurt for a week and a half. you'll know if your bone is broken or not. but hey, if it's cheap, why not get it checked out? :) are you gonna be out there this weekend? we're goin on today to get in some fun jumper loads, you should come out and make some w/ us. call ahead though. but yeah, i'll be there wed. thurs. fri. sat. sun. come on out! Good luck w/ your A, get workin on that A Card! blue skies! *looks up* yeees, they aRE! BE THE BUDDHA!

Yes, it is possible to spin so fast that you can't pull your arms or legs in, we had a guy get really messed up from that, but ended up being able to pull his reserve. totally agree with the man, go over some body positioning on the ground, statics aren't going to help you with stable body positioning in freefall Before you left the ground, did you do practice touches????? always do practice touches on new stuff, I had a similar problem jumping an R.O.L. but I'd done practice touches so I was able to remember. skydive!!!! But you know what they say...if at first you don't succeed..... BE THE BUDDHA!

I guess he made a couple jumps in that day and was doing that consistently, w/ no regard to the wind. (I'm told) apparently he swears by toggles, I 'unno, I'll get my story straight and talk to someone BE THE BUDDHA!

ok, I'll let them know, I know none of the safety people or DZO have seen him land, I, myself, just heard about it from the packer a couple hrs. ago (left the DZ for the day due to high winds and watching someone w/ a sketch landing) But yeah, will do. BE THE BUDDHA!

Buying first rig- how fast do I downsize to jump it?
skyhighkiy replied to MWGemini's topic in Safety and Training
If your instructors tell you that you are ready to jump a 170, and you want to pick up a good beginners rig, let me know. I think i'm going to end up selling mine off this winter to pick up something that's freefly friendly. again, this would just be to get you saving money on rentals until you could get something you want to keep for a long time, but it'd be cheap (like 900-1000) Vector 2 Sabre 170 (approx 550 jumps) super raven 150 reserve (1 terminal opening) no AAD but cypress ready whatever, just a suggestion, but again, do NOT go down this far unless your instructors have OK'd you for it, the 170 does allow for error but hey, better safe than sorry :) a suggestion though (LOOK AT HOW MANY JUMPS I HAVE BEFORE LISTENING TO MY COMMMENT IN THIS AREA) is to wait until you're ready for a 170 to purchase your own gear. I've met alot of students that end up getting bored w/ a 190 really quick. Hell, I was bored of it in 3 jumps. Just a suggestion, but don't push it too fast, everyone has their own rate of advancing. Drive fast, take chances! BE THE BUDDHA! -

To all of you that read and/or replied to my post regarding making 90 riser turns close to the ground, I have an even more risky and stupid story to tell. I was recently informed that there's another guy jumping out of my drop zone (happens to come from the same college) that is making extremely risky landings at an extremely low number of jumps number of jumps=32nd jump yest'rday type of landing=360's to the ground starting at (I'm told) around 100 ft. using only toggles (he has not yet experimented with his risers) He's flying a 220 (rental gear) but I"m told he's rather on the heavy side so the wingload is about 1:1 additional risks=disregard for the wind and the treeline that lies just a few hundred ft from the landing area which causes rotors for southern winds diagnosis=cratering before me I guess the one good thing about skydiving is that it's a self-maintenancing sport? hmm....comments, anyone? suggestions for books about canopy control?
skyhighkiy replied to skyhighkiy's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I know I posted this over in safety and training, but I just saw "swooping and canopy control" and thought "hey, I should post there" Sorry! anyway Does anyone have any good sites or ebooks I should download to learn about working my canopy? I practiced a bunch of things I learned from some documents I read a couple nights ago and noticed an amazing amount of change in accuracy w/ my landings and flying canopy right next to friends. DEFINATELY seeking as much information as possible about kinesthetics for freefly and documents on canopy control. Please, feed my hunger!! "will work for jumps" BE THE BUDDHA! -
besides just telling yourself to relax (which is hard to do in statics because you have about a half second before you get the crap whipped out of you) when you exit the plane on your aff stuff, clench up your entire body and then make it relax, talk yourself through everything, take big breathes, hold it in, let out slowly befor eyou get out. talk yourself through it while you're falling and remember you have TONS of time BE THE BUDDHA!

I notice that people tend to have a bad first impression of me when it comes to any sort of "on-line" meeting. I guess I just come off as an "I'm invincible" hard-headed assholish teenager? lol.

Prepare to have your comment about being alright at canopy and stuff ripped to shreds by the other guys in here, lol. anyway, This is how i learned to pack cause I couldn't grasp it at first, either. you pack the parachute and have someone instruct you while YOU are doing it. put th elines over YOUR shoulder and have them point stuff out to you, don't let them actually "do" it. affterr a couple of these, you'll be going in no time, blue skies! BE THE BUDDHA!

yeh, some courses R different, if your course was set up the way mine was, there's no way you could've skipped statics, your dz just has a different course. 4 get tandems man, granted, it's fun for the first one or 2 times, but it's really not worth the money, especially once you taste your first freefall w/ nothing but yourself and the parachute. think about it, that's that much more money you can spend in the air, alone and free BE THE BUDDHA!
