  1. I don't think it's a very good response at all. If we're on this forum, we're going to be looking around any way. we already know to search the forum. if someone is going to respond w/ that, they should say "look at this thread" andthen give a URL. otherwise they're basically saying. Look low timer, get some advice somewhere....no crap
  2. oh, don't worry, people were talking about it the IAF guy there had a good long talk w/ him, I believe the S&TA was over there too. whatever, at least he got a kewl nickname out of it?! (tree dweller) BE THE BUDDHA!
  3. fuel prices are...what is it? close to 50 bucks a drum now? BE THE BUDDHA!
  4. only a handful, somewhere between 15 and 20 (packing to pay for jumps) but hearing even one person that hastn' heard about it is amazing. I'm taken back any time I hear someone say "they never told me about that line" BE THE BUDDHA!
  5. *light bulb* "evil line/suicide line" it's the dreaded line that loves to move to the sides an wind its way in to material that I always remember to move to the middle so as to prevent line-overs.... is this a brake line? and how come 1/2 of the people I've taught to pack were never taught about the evil line? is it really not that big of a deal? BE THE BUDDHA!
  6. Just a quick suggestion, I know it probably doesn't matter much and everyone's got their own way of doing things, but I usually point the pin up, rather than the "smiley face" I'd like to think it gives the pin maybe just a tiny bit of a nudge to stay in the loop. I 'unno, try it if you want, just sharing throwing out a different idea
  7. I've been told the canopy opens faster if you're sub-terminal because there's less wind resistance holdingn your slider. but, because you're falling so slow, it'll seem like a loooong time. we did a couple hop'n'pops at 3 grand and we had a nice 5-10 second freefall be 4 we had to pull, no sweat man. on this altitude of hop'n'pop, most of the people I know don't wear an alti, helmet, anything, just a parachute and the wind. count to 5 and pull from 3500, you'll be open w/ plenty of time to spare BE THE BUDDHA!
  8. Rob, thanks a lot for the advice man, it's good to have advice from someone experienced rather than harsh dribble
  9. if you've got a buddy that's a rigger, have thhem install a bridal cover, I"m gonna guess it's going to be a little while be 4 you switch to ff friendly gear (expensive!) from what I've heard, this significantly reduces the chance of having a preme from air grabbing the bridal, should only cost you about the price of a jump? BE THE BUDDHA!
  10. Man, that's rough, I hope I never end up doing that. What do people do? just keep looking at the object and head towards it? I don't see how it's possible to have an object that you clearly have time to avoid, and still go straight in to it. Is it just brain overload? hmm....hopefully he'll be able toget over that soon, for his sake, you know what skydivers say, "if at first you don't succeed....." BE THE BUDDHA!
  11. I don'tknow why or how because I encountered a coupletimes, coming straight in from that long 100 ft vertical final, when I found myself facing directly at an object, and i turned to the side, it would've seriously taken just a tiny bit of toggle input to steer awayfrom it. I'm very much a student, I will always be a student, we're all students, those of us that hope to survive, anyway. b.t.w. "stupidity" was your word, not mine' another b.t.w. thank you for the term "object fixation" this post wasn't merely to say "hahaha, look at him" I was seeriously wondering hohw someone could, thank you for sharing your knowledge SKYDIIIIIVE B*tches!
  12. does anyone know of any software upgrades forthe neptune that will include max fall speed? I'm getting kinda tired of the "avg" speed thing. BE THE BUDDHA!
  13. Hey guys, I was looking in to purchasing a Mustek dv5500 or dv4000 as a starter camera, something light and affordable to mess around w/ my friends (or new A jumpers in exchange for my slot) with. get 100 or 200 jumps on it and then upgrade to something I can start doing videos w/ (tandems, etc.) anyawy, has anyone had experience w/ these cameras? what's the concensus? are there any other cameras between 100 and 150 that you guys would suggest for a starter camera? Thanks! BE THE BUDDHA!
  14. How is it possible for someone to slam in to a tree when making a straight in landing? 10degrees to the left is all they would've had to turn in their 100 ft final to avoid the tree. on my way out to the plane yesterday I look over and see our blue manta 260 start all the way across our landing area on a straight path. continues forward....forward...foroward...tree....forward SLAM. the guy goes in to the tree....for some reason he also chose to go in to full flight from his half brakes, right before hitting it....oy. are students really under that much stress? i don't ever remember being that uncontroled well, needless to say when I found out the student was ok, we all busted out w/ hysterical laughter. a 260 isn't THAT hard to steer. aaaah well. Tree Dweller, this Bud's for you BE THE BUDDHA!
  15. Look at my jump #'s before listening to anything I have to say and taking any of it to heart. I've been given lots of different opinions about ff w/ my rig (vector 2) I got a buddy w/ 200+ jumps freeflying a vector 2, never had any problems. However, I'm sure there are TONS of people w/ premes and probs ff'ing a vector 2. so I guess, if you want to put yourself in that jeopardy (i've been ff'ing, or attempting, since I got my gear...'bout 60 jumps) that's your perogitive. my suggestion as far as doing a horny gorilla, or any group maneuver involving strange wind angles on your gear is to make sure you have a bridal cover and BOC, and that you've done a few jumps in head down to see how secure your velcro is. I know some is loser than others. then, make sure everyone in your group knows what you're jumping, that way if they take on the risk, they're not being surprised by your gear, they knew it was rather risky the whole time. just my opinion L8ER SKYDIIIIVE! 16. next time we jump outta the same plane I'll dive out....wait, what are yout alking about,I've done a dive manyatime w/ you in the plane, lol. but yeah, lemme know and I'll do a nice dive for you to watch. even w/ diving, you don't even have to tumble, it's really easy to stay flat during that 1st 10 seconds/1000 feet. but why would you want to stay on your belly? "just do it" you're 11000 feet off the ground, you have more than enough time to fixyourself. we were makin hop'n'pops from 3 grand w/ a tumblingn exit today and comming out fine. You've got at least 5 tmies the ff we got. go 4 it!!!! :) Hell, lets launch a 2-way .....j/k BE THE BUDDHA!
  17. oooh come on,j we all know you're going to read this thread again :) sorry about the way I might've come off, I didn't mean to sound malicious, I meant what I said in a joking tone of voice. Don't worry about apologising for you english, we can understand, that's all that matters. ROCK OUT ON THE FORUMS! WOOO!!! p.s. sorry that my posts in this thread have had no true value BE THE BUDDHA!
  18. ditto on that...well...not always calm as in, sleepy relaxed, butcool-headed. I'm not really sure what the point in my reply is... but shwatever... Let me know if you come in contact w/ a guy by the name of Pete K. He jumps down in florida, goes to fsu...don't remember which DZ but it's a small skydiver world, might happen. BE THE BUDDHA!
  19. hmm.....I"m guessing a translator was used to make this post, lol. anywho, for anyone that didn't understand this, correct me if I"m wrong (and I don't have the answer) He' heard there's a list that lists all the dangerous sports of the world and that skydiving is really low on that list compared to many of them. Yeah dude, skydiving's the safest sport in the world, geeze, who would have you believing skydiving is dangerous
  20. Thank you for the info :) I guess one ofmy big questions about the pro-tec to the skydiving helmet is, do the materials they're made out of matter at all? or does the thickness and shape of the pro-tec more than make up for the use of normal plastics? as for me, I'm damn proud ofmy $150 peace of plastic with the word "hurricane" printed on it. How would a half-=shell pro-tec work for a small camera? move around a lot? BE THE BUDDHA!
  21. ...are you sure? I have never taken a blow to the head in a skydiving helmet but I would say they are far more structurally sound than a pro-tec. I was and am an avid skateboarder/snowboarder for about 6 yrs and I've taken a couple blows to the head and seen MANY people take blows to the head wearing Pro-tecs. Although the majority of them have held up, I've seen quite a few crack from some...what I would call minor blows. I heard of a friend of a friend taking a mighty slam to the side of an incline under a velocity 120 and having his skydive helmet only crack a bit. oh, by the way, I say buy the pro-tec BE THE BUDDHA!
  22. if you ended in a sit, you're letting your legs out too quick. if you're having a problem putting legs out too quick, let yourself go around twice (2 front loops) then work your way down to stopping yoursellf on time. ....that or just go in to a stand and then lean forward and tuck...WOO!! that'll get you over! BE THE BUDDHA!
