Two great new comedies: "The Anchorman" and "Napolean Dynamite"
davedlg replied to ManBird's topic in The Bonfire
I saw it last week and didn't really like it. However, a number of people I know thought it was hilarious. It seems to be one of those movies that you either love or hate. -
Two times come to mind: 1. Standing on a rock high above the middle fork of the Salmon River, Idaho. It was about 4 days into a 7 day river trip ithrough the middle of largest wilderness in the lower 48. The nearest road was at least 20 miles away and the nearest town was over 100 miles. I can't describe what it felt like to look miles in every direction and see nothing but pristine wilderness with a 'perfect' river running through it. 2. AFF level 5. Sunset jump with the sun going down over the rocky mountains and a huge full moon on the eastern horizon. The jump went perfect and I made my first stand up landing in the middle of the peas. I will never forget that jump.

OK some of you have been playing WAY too much Zelda. I feel like a dork just knowing what Hyrule and Ganon are!

That's why I didnt even bother showing up for work today

Their website is registered in Golden, Colorado. It looks like it's part of a Coors campagin...they have been advertising how their beer is cold shipped and evey other beer is not. I don't see how shipping cold helps a beer that has no taste in the first place.

That reminds me... a bunch of us are going up to Loveland Pass Christmas night for full moon skiing / boarding. Hundreds of people always show up and it's always a good time with kegs, bonfires, etc. I'm looking for a few more peopoe to switch out shuttles with if anyone's interested

I agree. This is essentially what I was trying to get at. Both have their obvious benefits and drawbacks in certain situations, neither one is perfect and neither one is obsolete.

See the attached pic of skiers going up to the East headwall of A-Basin...no snowboarders there! That said, I took my snowboard up on a fairly steep bump run two weeks ago. Determined not to side slip the bumps, I tried running all the same lines I would on my skis and found it difficult, but definatly feasable. I would say that it isn't any more difficult than learning to ski the bumps. I have a good friend that loves to ski the bumps on her snowboard. I think it is just that bump skiing is not a part of snowboarding culture..if it were, they would be in the bumps skiing them just as well as us skiers do. I would say the only thing that shredders (I call them knuckle-draggers) can consistantly do better than skiers is terrain park and half pipe, however there are some twin tip skiers out there giving them a run for their money.

Would you buy a PS2/XBOX now or wait until PS3 comes out in a year?

But you'll miss out on all the fun of the new Grand Theft Auto!! -
I've made a sport out of it! It's great fun to run gates that move unpredictably!

I used to work at keystone and I ski there alot, and I see this everywhere there. I dont know what it is about that resort, but I see more complete idiocy there than anywhere else I've ever been. I agree that experienced skiers and snowboarders are both relatively free from these grievances. Guilty as charged....I used to be the worst person about walking back to the car in my own world and forgetting about the skis on my shoulders. I got better after almost decapitating a few understandably annoyed people Yup. Just several weeks ago I had to help out a guy who skied past at least two "expert only" signs trying to snowplow down a very steep bump run with very thin cover.

How about the snowboarders that sit down in the middle of said steep sections completely obscured from above I've come very close to taking out a number of them.

So on a good powder day on a snowboard at a resort, you get what, a few hours of powder before it's all tracked off. You need to get into the backcountry to get days and days of powder. Go on a hut trip or the like....endless powder. Oh, wait, you can't use snowboards on hut trips. That's why I do both!
-
Awesome. For the next six months the days only get longer and longer.
-
Cause I learned on skis. I ski big fat pocket rockets on powder days. On a snowboard I would be flailing around trying to figure it out.
-
Of the 7 times I've been up this season, 5 have been on my skis and 2 on my snowboard. I learned on skis...I can do anything on skis, on a snowboard I can make my way down the groomers and get extremely frustrated on the flats. I also like skis because of their ease of use in backcountry access. Snowboarding is a good fun challenge for me when the conditions aren't powder.

IMO a good personality can go a long way to make up for bad appearance...however a good appearance can never make up for a bad personality.

I don't know what the heck is going on in Colorado today, but we had hurricane force winds this morning. Some gusts were approaching 100MPH. I am up on the top floor of a 12 story building and the enitre building was swaying back and forth in the winds. The roof of the building suffered moderate structural damage and we were told to move our cars from the lots adjacent to the building and the fire dept told everyone stay inside to avoid falling roof debris. Now it's getting COLD!

Despite the hangover on Saturday and the complete lack of jumping, I had the best weekend I've had in a long time. Had a great time skiing on Sunday too. Life IS Good!
-
Uggh. Day long hangover. Great party though.

Kazaa and other p2p sites are the most widely used illegal places. If you do use a program like that though, don't come back here crying about the all the spyware you inevetibly get infected with!

We got our picture taken with smoky the bear a few weeks ago!!!
-
last time we had one of these parties it went on for 36 hours. It only ended when the last person passed out. Somewhere in there, a turkey was smoked, we did a brewery tour at the Coors Brewery, the cops showed up, and we went "rafting" on the nearby lake

Bring your rigs!

Um...this party is tonight
