I insisted on going to the DZ on Dec 30th and making two hop and pops in the freezing weather....Why? So my number for 2001 would be 101....just had to break 100, and once i did one, I had to do a second... "It's not the heights that I am afraid of, it is the impact that bothers me."

As a teacher it is my fantasy to be allowed to say such things about a student. I firmly believe that at the end of the year I should be allowed to bitch-slap the one student who annoyed me the most over the course of the year....my administration is not going for it, though! And you need a million dollars to do that? You're a skydiver...now go out there and impress them chicks!!!! "It's not the heights that I am afraid of, it is the impact that bothers me."

It is good to see that you guys have your priorities straight. Instead of worrying about where the WFFC might be held, you are rooting for hookers. Come on, boys, you aren't that hard up, are ya? "It's not the heights that I am afraid of, it is the impact that bothers me."

Congrats Mike! What colors is it? Majdi, I, too, keep saying that I am through doing hop and pops in 20 degree weather (that is on the ground!!!) Yet I find myself at the dropzone....doing hop and pops....and looking forward to doing it again. It is official...we are hooked! "What problems have been associated with wearing hearing aids while skydiving? Q. I recently made two tandem jumps and would like to do AFF. Although I wear hearing aids, I took them out for the jumps. Have you heard of any problems with wearing hearing aids while skydiving, providing I kept them from falling out. A. We checked with another jumper who wears hearing aids full-time. He told us he's worn them jumping, although sometimes they turned themselves off in the aircraft during the climb to altitude - apparently that response helps protect both the wearer and the devices themselves. That created the problem of being in the line-up and not being able to hear the exit count. But as far as experiencing other problems, such as any caused by rapid changes, he reported none. But after jumping with his for a while, he stopped wearing them at the DZ." I got this from August's Skydiving Magazine ( I think it was august!) Seems to me that if there is a chance that the hearing aids may cease to function properly, a tandem would be the best bet for a first jump. Then she would know what to expect in terms of the hearing aids and make an informed decision then. Blue skies, Anne "It's not the heights that I am afraid of, it is the impact that bothers me."

Wanna know why it is so quiet?? Clay hasn't posted in 24 hours! Is he OK??? Did he party a little too hardy for new year's? Did he make a resolution about the number of posts he can make?? What is going on? Anne "It's not the heights that I am afraid of, it is the impact that bothers me."

Suggestions: 1. Maintain eye contact while turning. 2. Anticipate-Think Flat when you turn Blue Skies and level turns.... Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

Out of curiousitu, what altitude/altitudes do you have your pro-track (or other audible) set for? I can set it for three altitudes, but I am not sure that I want to. What do you do? Thanks! Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

I would cry for you guys and your rain, but our high here in St. Louis today was like 26 degrees. Forecast high for tomorrow.....31!!! WOOHOO!! (can you say hop & pops??) Blue skies, Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

If that is the working definition, I have had two.. One I cutaway, one I should have. The should have was line twists which I fought, never checking my altitude (I know, WAY bad) I was finally out of them just over 1000 ft. I landed fine, if a bit off the DZ. Probably should have chopped, or at least considered it at the proper altitude! Blue skies, Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

Marshall, I can relate. My mom is cool, she has learned a ton about skydiving and actually feels better now that she knows about my cypres and how cautious I am. My father is a different story. In my letter to Santa this year (yes, I am 29 and required to write to Santa) I asked for only one thing....for my father to accept me for who I am...a skydiver. Santa (whose handwriting looks remarkably like my father's) wrote back that my father can't get over it because he is scared to death of something happening to me. It is not lack of love, but rather an abundance of it that separates us on the skydiving issue. I know it is frustrating for you, but try to understand WHY they are not supportive. It is probably because they worry about their little boy! Blue skies, Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

Did I miss something? Am I being stupid? What is YMMV?? Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

I used to have skydiving dreams all the time. Then I went almost a year without any. Last night I had two.... (I'll spare you the details of the boring one!) I dreamt that I had a pilot chute in tow. I was at 9000ft. I decided to fight it, since I was so high. I reached around and tried to free the pin. I elbowed the container....I tried tracking to inflate the pilot chute (Does this sound like a recent thread to anyone else?????) THe main came out of the container, but did not open, so I chopped and pulled silver. Under my reserve, I was keeping level with people in freefall....WEIRD! I landed on the tarmac, inches from the hangar. The DZO proceeded to yell at me and I got pissed!!! Did he not see my hellacious jump!!!!! Anyway, I had two reserve rides that night.... I think that the time you are least scared is when you are doing it. I have only chopped once, and I was thinking, "No way I'm gonna land this shit.....CHOP!!!" Then I felt overwhelming relief even before I pulled silver...just knowing that I had made a choice and that I was not gonna have to land an uncontrollable canopy. The fear and doubt crept in way later.....during I was calm and focused, as you will be! Blue skies, Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh

I think I win...My TOTALLY non-supportive (at least of skydiving) family bought me a Pro-Track!!!! SCORE!!!! Plus... a neck gaitor, cash (always appreciated), a vaccuum, and other fun stuff!! Merry Christmas to all!! Anne "by stitches, cloth, and cord,...a god of the sky for those immortal moments."-Lindbergh
