black dots visible in viewfinder, not on lens or sensor?
Zee replied to The111's topic in Photography and Video
It's probably just some gook on the prism or on the inside of the viewfinder itself. It won't appear in any of the pictures since their only real purpose is to display an accurate "right side up" image in the view finder. Take it somewhere for professional cleaning - you probably don't want to venture inside the viewfinder yourself and it's usually not that expensive. Peace, Z Action©Sports -
See the motorcycle?? A dead dumb ass was riding it
Zee replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Quick websearch brings the story Billy mentioned up several times. Billy posted everything that was stated in the story. My comment was not aimed at Billy, personally - our friend J here was insinuating that media hype was only used to support my position, and not the other way around. The media will blow anything out of proportion just to sell a few extra copies. Peace, Z Action©Sports -

I have no idea what convinced a jury of his innocence. Then again, I don't know what convinced a jury to let O.J walk either. The American justice system is riddled with absurd judgments. Here's the rest of the story: Tama County Attorney Brent Heeren, who prosecuted the case, was outraged over the fines and believes the judge could have imposed as much as 60 days in jail and $1,000 in fines for the two traffic infractions. He pushed to have the decision considered by the Iowa Supreme Court. “I don’t think two $35 fines where three people are dead and two seriously injured was justice,’’ Heeren told the Des Moines Register. Meanwhile, several civil suits have been filed in the case. How much of the story do you think we heard from Billy? No media hype there? Buy hey, since you're the Guru here, feel free to enlighten me. Tell me exactly what part of my position that you disagree with, and why? Z Action©Sports -
Did you guys catch the episode where Shamrock wanted a go at Ortiz right there in the gym? Shit that was funny. Ortiz had Shamrock so pissed off the guy was turning freakin' blue - and Ortiz just kept on smilin'........It was funny as hell. Shamrock is gonna get his ass kicked.....again. It's not even going to last two rounds so it'll hardly be worth the pay-per-view $$$ Action©Sports

See the motorcycle?? A dead dumb ass was riding it
Zee replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Allow me to quote from my earlier post: I don't know what your definition of jumbled is but, to me, that statement is very concise and to the point. My point is quite simple: Driving beyond ones control range in -ANY- vehicle, be it a Honda, a Harley, or a Hummer, can have very serious consequences. The difference is that no matter who's at fault, it's -normally- the dude on the scooter that ends up splattered across three lanes of traffic. My gripe is with the use of this very rare (yet no less tragic) incident, to further the generalization that motorycylists are inherently irresponsible, crazy, and unpredictable, drivers, because that is simply not true. Nice generalization - Perhaps we should give everyone who buys a Harley free access to drug and alcohol counseling - get that shit out of their system before they kill somebody Action©Sports -

Oh, I'm terribly sorry, Billy. Now that I realize your post was purely an altruistic gesture aimed at saving the lives of your fellow skydivers, I feel that I can help further your cause of keeping us all safe on the road. Here's another example of what not to do on public streets - without the incident photographs.... Driver kills three motorcyclists, pays $70 in fines Mar. 9 – In Iowa, a man driving a van crossed the centerline of a road and hit six approaching motorcyclists head-on, killing three and seriously injuring two others. Recently he was fined $70—a penalty that the state’s attorney general is now asking the state Supreme Court to review with an eye on allowing a stiffer fine and jail time. The case involves Gary Lee Butler, 49, of Des Moines, who was convicted of failing to maintain control of his van, and driving on the wrong side of the road. The high court hasn’t indicated whether it will hear the case. On June 22, 2002, Butler was driving a van along U.S. Highway 30 near Chelsea, west of Cedar Rapids, when he crossed the centerline and plowed into six motorcyclists. Motorcyclists Arlen Pickering, 53, of Story City, Douglas Sampson, 51, of Ames, and Ross Holland, 57, of Boone, were killed in the crash. Motorcyclist Richard Vauble of Ames lost his right leg above the knee, while James Olson, of Ames, spent almost four months in the hospital unconscious. Wayne Wierson, also of Ames, suffered minor injuries. In January, a jury found Butler not guilty of three counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of serious injury by vehicle. A judge then found Butler guilty of the two traffic violations and on February 5 fined him $70. Action©Sports -

Yep, that's simply brilliant, Billy. Let's ban all sport bikes from public streets simply because you managed to find a single 10 year old instance of a motorcyclist actually killing someone besides himself. Did you ever stop to think of how many innocent motorcyclists are T-Boned (killed, maimed, paralyzed, take your pick) on a daily basis by SUV drivnig, cellphone talkin' jerkoffs? I ride my bike (a 2005 CBR1000RR) an average of 500 miles a week and I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've had some cellphone talkin' dipshit try to sideswipe me because they're too caught up in their own bullshit to pay any attention to what's happening on road. Should we ban all SUV's from public streets as well? Or how about sports cars? Has there ever been an accident involving a sports car where innocent people were killed? Come on....... Place the blame where it truly belongs: on the dipshit behind the wheel - or the handlebars as the case my be. Peace, Z Action©Sports -

I think you answered your own question - the flash is mounted too far back and too far down preventing the flash from reaching the bottom of your subject - try moving the flash around and taking a few test shots. Peace, Z Action©Sports -

I don't use Canon cameras but from the documentation I've been able to find on Canon (and from several Canon setups that I've seen in the past) they are limited to the x-synch speed of the camera - which on the 30D is 1/250 of a second. The one way I know you can get around that on Canon is to use an FP (Focal Plane) flash unit - and FP flash units have a Bounce Lock when the bulb is raised above 0 degrees from the body. Perhaps someone who uses Canon can give you more info.... Peace, Z Action©Sports

The Auto-Focus Illumination works by transmitting a set grid pattern on the subject that it can use to focus on in low light situations. And yes, if you lay the flash down flat on the IR transmitter it will block the signal and the Auto-Focus Illumination won't work. As for mounting the flash "standing up" or flat - My flash automatically switches to Bounce Flash mode when you lift the bulb from the body of the flash i.e laying it flat on the helmet - in that mode High Speed Synch on the camera no longer works and that drops the highest shutter speed down to 1/200 of a second. On the other hand, if I leave the flash standing up the High Speed Synch works and I can use shutter speeds up to 1/8000 or 1/4000 depending up the camera I'm using at the time. Hope it helps, Z Action©Sports
