Agreed. Standing in the door doesn't feel the same as standing on the roof, because the ground is so far away, it doesn't look real. You can easily convince yourself that it isn't real. In fact, I remember being under canopy on my first jump, and thinking that it felt like I was just looking at a very well-done train set. Of course, there is the landing.... Carl

And I guess I need a geekier spell check.

Nice post, dude. You seem to have a lot of insight into what you are/aren't doing. Very cool. So, when is 12? Carl

Actual conversation a Elsinore: "Hey, any of you guys know who Mandy is?" "Uh, yeah. Just look for the hottest babe on the dropzone. And don't decide too early".

Hmmm, I dunno. 11:00, Bomb Shelter, no Mandy? Big fire!

Seriously, Trance is actually quite good for at least one thing, putting you in trance! I listen to it at work when I need to concentrate, like when pounding out large sections of code. For some reason this type of music quiets the part of the mind that chatters while you are trying to concentrate. I used to bitch at co-workers who played "music with words" when I was trying to work, because it had the opposite effect. Of course, they always complained about the "music that sounded like it was skipping". It's some kind of left/right brain thing. Other types of work don't benefit, or ar harder to do in a trance. I haven't really figured it all out yet. I go with what seems to be working. Carl

Music just sucks in general. I just listen to a single electronically-generated tone played at full volume for several hours. For variety, I may adjust the volume a bit, or change from one tone to another half way through. Ahhhh, that's nice.

I saw D-1 at Elsinore. It was on his license plate too. Didn't get his name, but it must be a household one (Lew Sanborne?)

I'm sorry about your nephew. You clearly have some very powerful issues to deal with.

spectre, this is a very dangerous attitude. It is thinking life this that has led to some very dark episodes in our history. Also, to set the record straight (so to speak), "the way it is" may not be what you think. How do you know who is gay or straight (or, as Merrick so eloquently put it "on a sliding scale")? Unless you have them wear badges, or something. As far as begin afraid of people "that try to force you to accept their lifestyle", my God is this hypocritical! Why are you trying to get them to accept your lifestyle? Or even worse, you would rather they not be on your dz, so you are excluding them from something that you find to be so important that you will sacrifice a lot to have it. Sorry to get hot-headed. Emma wanted controversy, she's getting it. One of the best things about skydivers is that they are open, inclusive and watch out for each other. Why should we care about race, sexual orientation, etc.? We ignore class, background and everything else, except maye whether you are "one of them damned freefliers". Sheesh!

What is the vertical resolution of GPS? I'm not sure if there are any audible GSP receivers, but that may be an option, if the resolution is high enough. Carl -
I'll be there, fer sher. My flight gets in at like 8:30pm on Friday, 1+ hour drive from civilization to Perris. CU there!

W, I was going to make the same argument, but in rereading Frank's post, I assumed he meant this should be the case for those unable to make the decision themselves, ie children, incompetants, and those with insufficient information to make an informed choice (students). Am I misinterpreting, Frank? To apply the logic to the population at large is paternalistic, and leads down a VERY slippery slope. The general way that society tends to do this is to make the slope so slight that we don't notice it. Think about the personal freedoms we had 20 years ago compared to today. Why have we given it all up without too much complaining? My guess is because we haven't really noticed it as it happened. Sorry to sound like one of those libertarian nut-jobs (or just a normal libertarian), but I just hate to see this. However, let's help the kids, and please make intelligent decisions for me when it isn't practical for me to have all the information I need to make my own choice. Once I do, BACK OFF! Carl

There seems to be different behavior for the site between "www.dropzone.com" and just "dropzone.com", but it is subtle. One is that logins are different on the latter, and another is that the above bug does not exist on the latter. It is difficult to reproduce because the pages have the "www." in some of the links, but if I hand-edit the window that comes up with the above error message, and remove the "www." I get redirected to the mfgr page just fine. The IP addresses appear to be the same for both. Could this be either a virtual host or NAT issue? Carl
