  1. Do type-specific simulators exist for most of the aircraft types used in jump operations? I've been able to find sims for the Caravan and Twin Otter, but that's about it. What about the Skyvan, 750XL, Porter, etc?
  2. I've just checked around & decided to ditch Vodafone. Vodafone have good pre-pay deals, but you can't roam and the number of international calls you can make are seriously limited. Their post-pay deals aren't all that good. Virgin Mobile has much better deals for those that need to make international calls & roam occasionally. Plus they'll sell me a W810i for $600 over 24 months with only a six-month lockin.
  3. Stop posting thread titles in capitals? It's really annoying.

Yep, the PAC 750XL. As for CG, it's touchy. Realistically, you'd probably not put more than 10-12 in it, and have everyone else exit from the other plane. I think you might find it tricky to organise a multi-country comp where everyone uses exactly the same aircraft.
  5. The Brit ladies did the same draw in training and posted a 20.2 . Caveats: only over six rounds and not in comp. Ron: Alienangel may have words to eat in the near future .
  6. If you're trying to slide right and find yourself turning clockwise, use less upper-body input. If you find yourself turning anti-clockwise, use less legs. When you can side slide slowly but accurately, you can work on speeding it up.
  7. Vodafone's GSM network is crap outside the major metropolitan centres. For example, there's no coverage at Toogoolawah. Telstra & Optus are pretty good, and Virgin Mobile uses Optus' network. 3 mobiles roam to Telstra's network when the UMTS network isn't available. Vodafone are just about ok. If you can get a better deal somewhere else, do so. /off the top of my head. I'm jetlagged, so facts may be wrong.
  8. That doesn't change the fact that the walls still exist and are still in the student's peripheral vision, providing cues as to their position.
  9. Given your team name, how about some sexy French sounds? Air. Serge Gainsbourg. Any female French singer, ever. Camille.
  10. Ouch. Go call an Irishman an Englishman next and top it off with telling a Canadian he's just a wannabe American .

Make it a Skyvan and an Otter (or XL) and we can do that at Picton. Synchronising exit altitudes could be hard - I don't know if we can go above 14k MSL. How about just limiting the working time to 45 or 50 sec?

Bring it! I'd be happy to coordinate the Sydney end (ie, hassle someone more experienced than I into doing the organising ).
  13. I completely agree. I just don't think that someone with 100 jumps has the analytical skills to correctly break down and analyse what someone else is doing in a pattern and on landing. At least, I've never met someone with 100 jumps that I'd want coaching someone else. They probably do exist, but I'd just like the bar that tiny bit higher. I have however, met plenty that have been around just a little longer and have developed those skills. Agreed. Completely.
  14. You can get a load out of a tunnel camp with 44 jumps. You haven't had the time to learn too many bad habits yet . If you discuss your experience level and goals with the organiser, they'll be able to recommend a suitable camp/format.
  15. Most modern containers will work nicely, including the Mirage & VSE products. Choosing something that's popular in your area can be helpful in keeping resale value high. As for the worry about downsizing: I did 400+ jumps on my first set of gear. Some of the people I look up to most did 1000 on their first canopies. That's a lot of rental dollars.
  16. I'm Irish, going back as far as anyone can trace these things.
  17. Hey, I'll bitch about a plane's grip bar . But hey, I need something to moan about... Other than that, I think you're pretty much spot on, though I might argue that you're romanticising the old days. Have a poke through the H&T forum for stories of the skygod attitude of many of the senior jumpers in the old days.
  18. Thinking is a good thing, and it's pretty damn useful. I'm sure Helmut Cloth faced many doubters too. Just because we think there's holes in an idea doesn't mean that a) we're right, or b) they can't be fixed.
  19. If you like that, look up "Abbaon Fat Tracks" by Tricky. From his mid-90s album Maxinquaye.
  20. Nonono. The John Cale version beats Buckley's version hands down. It was on a tribute album, maybe called "I'm Your Fan"? John Cale played in the Velvet Underground.
