WHich aircraft would you want jump out of full time..

Utility Aircraft, PAC's USA distributor, publish some cost comparisions. No idea if they're accurate, but they're definitely impressive. -

bob.dino replied to jasonRose's topic in The Bonfire
I've never jumped one, but looking at the door, I don't think I'd ever want to do 4-way out of one. Yep, and the fact that two engines make it more expensive to run. Half the number of engines mate. PAC = 1x PT6-34. Super Otter = 2x PT6-34. Mullins KA = 2x PT6-34 (I think). Sitting near the door is much quieter than sitting near the pilot. But yeah, when Garretts are involved, earplugs are a good idea. -

Seems like an affordable and easy to achieve request, eh? It's actually one of the hardest things to achieve, as it usually involves changing stuff inside you rather than stuff outside you. Happiness is an attitude & a state of mind which you do have control over.

Wait... Isn't Supporting Terrorism Illegal in America?
bob.dino replied to miked10270's topic in Speakers Corner
The US has a long history of condoning and supporting terrorism, whether covertly or overtly. They're missing a large and powerful voting block within the US. -

Most English people would happily let the six counties float off into the North Atlantic if there were no consequences. In no particular order, there's a number of reasons they stay: Last vestiges of Empire thinking. This is also where the chant "No Surrender to the IRA" comes in. 55-60% of Northern Ireland wants to be part of the United Kingdom. Guilt for creating the whole mess in the first place. Most protestants in Northern Ireland are descendants of Scottish Presbyterians 'encouraged' to move to NI. More recently, the Parachute Regiment killing 13 unarmed civilians was responsible for radicalising much of the Catholic population. There'd be a civil war if the UK pulled out; the Republican and Unionist politicians have the maturity of six-year-olds. Civil wars on your doorstep are bad for business. -
How Do YOU Feel About The Possible Port Purchase and Why?
bob.dino replied to boinky's topic in Speakers Corner
"I'm all for a free market when it suits me" isn't a free market. One of the defining aspects of a free market is that it's free, ie that you take the good with the bad. -

Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana
bob.dino replied to nepalaw's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The "real soon now" rumor has been around since at least 2004. Don't hold your breath . -
At AFF 4 I was still struggling with the massive dose of adrenaline my body dumped into my bloodstream every time I jumped out of a plane. My higher brain function, including my ability to deductively reason were pretty much suppressed. I was thinking at the level of a 6-8 year old, and if we hadn't rehearsed and re-rehearsed the dive on the ground, I doubt I'd have done all that well. I'm no AFF instructor, but I wanted to share my experience. True clarity in the air is something I still struggle with.

Go spend two weeks hiking through New Zealand. Book a trip to the Equinox Boogie in Australia in October. Hike the Inca Trail in Peru. Go to Cuba for a fortnight. Spend a few days in St Petersburg in May. Learn to surf in California. The world is full of fun things to do.

Yes. It's a rel suit, and rel suits tend to get videoed and judged, and if the colour's bleeding it can be hard to judge if the grip is on or not. Which is why red grippers can be a bad idea. Just something to keep in mind if you start tweaking the design. For the record, I like option 3 best. -
Stiletto vs Crossfire2 vs. Katana
bob.dino replied to nepalaw's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
You can get a Crossfire2 in sizes up to a 189. There's also the Samurai, available in sizes up to a 170. edit: and I hate to be the fun police, but 400 jumps, 100 jumps/year, and wanting to go higher than a 1.5 wingloading is a scary combination. You may have difficulty getting a manufacturer to sell you a small XF2 or Katana without references from folk who know you... -

Be aware that red can bleed quite badly on screen if it's dubbed to VHS and shown on a TV. Not a problem if it's being put to DVD. edit: this definitely occurs with PAL, and I believe it's also a problem with NTSC. -

We have one. The only real advantage over an Otter is that it's a hell of a lot cheaper to operate. The door is significantly smaller than an Otter, and a bit smaller than a Caravan, which means you may need to reengineer your 4-way exits. Our IC could launch from her feet in the Otter/Caravan, and needed to go to one knee for the 750XL. The tail is low - wingsuiters can hit it if they're not careful. It's in a very similar position to a Caravan. Maybe a tad lower? It's prone to stalling if you put too many outside, so jump-run is pretty fast when doing 8-way. The newer planes have modifications to move the CofG forward and make stalling less of a issue. Nice bars outside. There's two steps outside, one of which is a long way down. Our TMs really like it. There's great visibility, so the ride to height is pretty. Edit: if there was no difference in cost of operation, I'd take a Super Otter any day of the week. -
It is posted in a current ad, presumably by the guy who took the shot.

Need a place to crash in London saturday night...
bob.dino replied to piisfish's topic in The Bonfire
There's trains every 10-15 min from Luton to Bedford, and the journey takes 25min. As for accommodation, dunno. -
Flip-flops to Irish folk, and thongs to Aussies. Whee.

Vectran is also what Icarus recommend. A collapsible slider (definitely) and soft links (personal preference) would be the other two things I'd suggest.
