  2. Unless you have experience in packing many stuff into even more stuff, your best shot is fill in your measurement and canopies on the order form and let the manufacturer decide what rig size you should get. Everything else will be a gamble "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  3. I try to stay away from the brand wars ,but... It's the same company... What difference does it make? True... What you ( and many other jumpers ) fail to understand is that Airtec is about 200 000 units and 23 years further and they have never had a cutter failure. Unlike every other manufacturer. It's OK to jump whatever you want and I'm fine with that. Just don't try to justify it with stupid arguments. Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  4. You don't actually lift one of the needle. What you do is disengage one of the needles in upper position which transforms the twin needle into a single needle machine. Once you learn how to use it, you will never look back. It's kinda like when you zig-zag lines on your 20U and then you buy a bartacker If you visit us, you can play as much as you want, but from my personal experience, a half hour will not be enough. Then again, I'm not a fast learner Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  5. Well, the Trap guru at Mirage is definitely following this thread
  6. That's the canopy for you then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK3uWGdh6eA "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  7. To my knowledge,no MARD was ever tested in a horseshoe situation. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  8. Kelly's RAX is still my favorite MARD by far, and I'm still surprised that he is not using it. When I say "my favorite", you should read it as :" I don't really like MARD for sport rigs, but if I have to work with them, RAX is my favorite" "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  9. The biggest reserve that will fit in is a Techno 128 and the biggest main will be 135-ish. I don't think this size will make it suitable for first rig. There's a service bulletin about the Classic regarding the deflector flap and AAD cutter location. If you buy it and your rigger doesn't have the manual, let me know and I'll mail you a copy. Parachute de France made some nice rigs but their customer service was awful. Be aware that from Feb. 2015 they will no longer make sport rigs and finding spare parts will become difficult. PM me if you need more info Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  10. I am not an expert, but as far as I know this is only valid for carbon fiber helmets. First read carefully the manual from the Bonehead helmets. "The liner is made up of a thermo-formable foam covered in neoprene and fabric, which when heated, will soften and can be molded during the cooling process." Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  11. The Cypres cutter has a life time of 15 years. It must receive a check every 4 years in order to stay airworthy. The 15 years life time info comes from a factory tour I did in 2011. I can't find any written info about that, so you can consider that as a"rumor"! The answer on your other question you can check here: http://www.cypres.cc/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=153&Itemid=104&lang=en Based on that, I'd say it's worth 30 $ "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  12. Maybe because rubber bands don't really like grommets when the temperature goes up ( like the rig left in the trunk scenario ) "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  13. I am going by memory but I believe the Collins Lanyard is not available to license separatelt from the Skyhook. Yes, trap is a terrible name for anything involving a canopy. Nobody will pack it until some instructions are available. I don't think it will take long before that patent expire. I could be wrong of course. What I don't get is why the other manufacturers are not building their rigs with spit housings?! After that it's easy to "retrofit" even on the field "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  14. That is almost correct but not really. It is false! The flap fits between the handle and canopy material. The handle is attached on each of the handle ends. There is a flap size slot for the flap to pass through. I have one at home but I'm a day away from being able to take a picture. If none are posted before then, I'll take one and post it. If my info comes from the manufacturer, could it really be "false" ? And is it possible that they have changed the design at some point?! So we both could be "wrong" or "right" at the same time! Think about it
  15. Just a little correction Rob. It's 12 ft total. 5 ft between the RPC and the Skyhook and 7 ft between the Skyhook and the free bag. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  16. Hi Jerry, I think you forgot to multiple the listed weight X 1.2 "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Jerry, From the manual: Smart 99, 110, 120, 135 are listed as 220lbs max. exit weight Smart 150, 160, 175, 190, 220 are listed as 265 max exit weight Smart 250 is listed as 300 lbs max. exit weight. Based on those numbers, the dummy weigh should've been no less than 264 lbs. on the small sizes and 318 lbs on the sizes till 220 sq ft. Am I correct, or did I miss something? "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi Jerry, I posted the numbers the way they were written on the data label, so people can see that even something so simple like writing data can be left for interpretation from the manufactures. Pounds, Decanewtons, G's....you name it I would guess that would be the max weight on the label X 1.2 Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  19. Just ignore the flap when you pack FF handle. They don't work together . "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  20. Here is what's written on the Techno reserves. The only missing size is 98, but I have never seen that size reserve in my life. Maybe they have made only 2 canopies from it :) Techno 115 - 2100 daN Techno 128 - 1520 daN Techno 140 - 2100 daN Techno 155 - 2160 daN Techno 190 - 1260 daN Techno 240C- 1120daN Some other reserves PDR 113 - 3639 lbs Optimum 106 - 3951 Optimum 126- 3951 Optimum 218 - 2123 Smart 120 - 5.36 G Smart 190 - 5.59 G Few years back I did collect all that info because I thought that it's interesting to know. Then I find out that it's actually pretty useless since stuff don't fail on their "average" force. Then my computer crashed and I didn't care to recover that info. Some other things to think about. Decelerator reserve from 2003 ( I think) it's TSO C23d tested , but doesn't have any average force written on the label. Maybe there are more TSO C23d items without that info printed. I hope any of that helps "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  21. It's called a "Daisy chain" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhzdCzFp9aY Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  22. What canopy is that? This http://www.flyfirebird.com/fb/downloads/manuals/chilli.pdf Status- discontinued. That's all you need to know "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  23. That's correct Bill! But as far as I know, all of the canopies listed in that document were measured the same way in order to get the most accurate info on how big/small certain canopies are in regard to packing volume and surface area. Since we are talking about reserve canopies here, I'd say the chart is quite accurate. My point was, everybody is saying that certain canopy is smaller than what's written on the label because is measured differently than the PD canopies! Well, PD it's not a standard The canopy is as big as the company that made it say it is! The only way to find out if you like it is.....jump it! Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  24. I know of some Icarus sponsored athletes that were told to get PDR/OP's over nano's by the company.(by NZ) Make of that what you will. Icarus Canopies sponsored or NZ Aerosports sponsored? There's a big difference! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
  25. Speed 2000 square footage is measured differently from PD/Icarus and is misleading. That 190 is substantially smaller than a 190 Opt or Nano. Anecdotal evidence suggests it may be smaller than 176 as well. Similar to how a Pilot 190 is larger than a Safire/Sabre2 190 because the square footage is measured differently. Can we reverse that and say that the canopy size info from PD and Icarus is misleading, giving the customers the wrong idea about their canopy size?! Because the PDR 176 is actually 189 sq.ft! What you are getting is actually a 190 canopy measured according to the PIA TS-104. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen
