What type of parachute does your jump-pilot wear?
Deyan replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
Hi Rob, To my knowledge CIMSA doesn't have anything that's pop top. Paratec on the other hand does have a PEP that's pop top. And I believe Thomas Sports have one as well. Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -

I'm glad you like the C7 solution. What you have to remember is that when you remove 1000+ SS grommets, the tips of the jaw will round up a bit and that will make cutting the washer more difficult. However, most riggers will never end up replacing 1000+ grommets in their life, but it's good to keep that in mind. Biggest scam? They still have a lot to learn from Sky Systems "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Legal according to whom? FAA, BPA, DFV, KNVvL, BgPA, FFdP, CSPA, APF? What's legal for someone, might not be legal for others, but since you are asking, is it legal according to FAA? Cheers "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

A customers walks in and asks for a major repair on his rig. ( chest strap replacement, leg straps replacement etc.) The last repack is still valid and the customer doesn't want to pay for a new one. He only want the repair to be done. Would you do it?! (The last repack is done by another rigger.) I voted NO! Please click on the first two options if you are rigger. For those of you who want to vote, but are not riggers, I made the third and fourth option "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

Last week I did 3 assemblies on brand new rigs. They were build with that webbing. Manufacturer confirmed that they approve the use of it. And the reason they are using it is very simple. They ran out of Class 1 and they didn't want to put the production on hold. I'd hate to pay 3k for a rig, not made of Class 1 webbing "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

I'm not in their kitchen so I don't know. Perhaps you know more. But the fact that Vortex 2 is the cheapest TSO'd rig out there and they are the only one (to my knowledge) to use this hardware, makes me think the cheapest price was the leading reason. Once again...It's just a guess! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

As a TSO holder they are responsible for everything that goes in their products. The early Vortex 2 were made with Wichard hardware. Some years ago PS started using DSF hardware. I don't know why they changed the supplier, but I'll put my money on "cheaper price". And this is how it goes! So Vigil is on the market since 2003 and already has 7 SB's regarding the cutter. In average a new SB every 1.7 years! It's a bit high for my taste! "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

New FAA Parachute Rigger Handbook FAA-H-8083-17A

Just imagine how much easier the life would be if the feds step out of regulating the parachuting in the US "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
I guess it was a typo. Now it's fixed "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

It's a trademark kinda thing. You fly your reserve and everybody at the DZ know that it's another NANO save! For the same reason Optimums are always orange, and the Smart has a big label on the front side of the bottom center cell. Purely a marketing thing. If the harness was made for a much smaller person, you should know that the yoke size can't be resized . Or it can, but it will cost you as much as a new rig. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen

USA Riggers: Does 22-lb limit include the seal/thread?

You have to meet Colin from Empuriabrava. He does that kind of stuff. "My belief is that once the doctor whacks you on the butt, all guarantees are off" Jerry Baumchen -
A wise guy once told me that begging for forgiveness works better than asking for permission! That worked fine for me for the last 15 or so years. Something to think about for the next time!
